One random Saturday, we decided to head south and stopped at Fuel City. Note that the taco stand is cash only. I ordered Piccadillo and carne asada tacos and also picked up a cup of elote from the little stand out front. We ended up eating our tacos on the tailgate with the Dallas skyline as our view. Super simple but honestly so perfect. After that we wandered behind the car wash to go look at the longhorns and a couple of donkeys just chilling in the Texas sun. Idk why we waited so long to do this but it was such a cute, inexpensive little date idea. Also this gas station has the BEST snacks, stuff you won't find anywhere near us. If you're ever driving around DFW and see a Fuel City, stop and get some street tacos 24/7. The Piccadillo was my favorite!

Also, skip the snacks inside. They price gouge like crazy! Sometimes nearly 2x what you'd pay at 7-Eleven or Tom Thumb (which aren't even cheap to begin with). Last time I checked, a bag of Hot Cheetos here was 6 bucks! For perspective, they're $3.97 at Walmart and $4.79 at Target, It's a total rip-off. Final pro tip: For the love of God, do not park under the trees on the right side of the lot. I made that mistake once and came out to find my car LITERALLY covered in bird poop. It was so bad I had to drive straight into their car wash just to see out of the windshield. Consider yourself warned.

First of all, the Bishop Arts District itself is incredibly charming. Block after block of unique shops ranging from bookstores and bakeries to candle shops, candy stores, coffee spots, and little boutiques. It's exactly the kind of neighborhood I loveeeee exploring while traveling and if I lived in Dallas, I'd probably frequent this area often. As for The Wild Detectives, the concept alone immediately appealed to me...bookstore meets cafe meets bar meets restaurant. That combination will pretty much always grab my attention. I love to read, I love to eat. The space has a pretty relaxed, community oriented vibe, and during my Saturday morning/early afternoon visit, there were plenty of people working, reading, chatting, and hanging out both inside and on the patio. My one slight disappointment was that the bookstore side itself was smaller than I expected and didn't have quite as extensive a selection as I had imagined. That said, I still managed to leave with a few great additions for my ever growing TBR pile. Overall, this was a worthwhile stop and one I may revisit the next time I'm in Dallas.
