I nevertheless tipped $3 on a cup of coffee and a breakfast bagel. I brought my own coffee outside, while the bagel was brought out to me. When I finished eating, I brought my tray, cup, and utensils back inside and up to the counter as a courtesy rather than leaving them outside. Instead of just taking them, the employee told me I needed to carry everything over to another area near the trash cans. Obviously, walking another 10 feet isn't a big deal. What bothered me was that after tipping $3 and then going out of my way to bring everything back inside, the staff essentially couldn't be bothered to take the tray the last few feet themselves. It's a small thing, but it left a disappointing impression about the level of service relative to the tipping expectation.

Since real estate mogul Barbara S. and I up here in Cloverdale to prepare a house for sale, let's do our food shopping. I love the quirky Grocery Outlet in Santa Rosa. This is my first visit to the Cloverdale store. It's neat and clean outside and inside. It feels a little less cluttered than the Santa Rosa store. Most certainly on this Monday afternoon there are hardly any other shoppers (Cloverdale is a small town). Food shopping during this life changing virus era is one of the few public pleasures left to us, so we are happy to indulge in some retail therapy. There are most of the same items as the Santa Rosa store, but after a few minutes I woefully discover that the rather off kilter left field items that are in Santa Rosa are not here. Like the $4 jar of Icelandic caviar or the British Kippers or the weird imported Italian pastas and many other goofy items. This store has much less wine selection than Santa Rosa; the beer selection is pretty sparse. (I end up selecting a 6 pack of Modelo). Barbara and me go slow and cruise each aisle looking for potential meal items that will spark the imagination and tease the palate. We get the main items we intended (Fruits / vegetables / meats - All look fresh and crisp) and much more. We do fill up the shopping cart. At check out the damage amounts to 7 big brimming bags, $200 of goodies. The same mass quantity at Oliver's or Whole Foods would have cost $430. Though this Grocery Outlet did not intrigue me like the Santa Rosa store, I love it still. Count your lucky stars Cloverdale residents. This store is a much more interesting supermarket than the Ray's IGA across the street.

This store is terribly run, i shop here once a week just for the sales, three out of four weeks…read morethey're advertise sales price was not what you got charged at the register one week water $.99 a gallon the next week it was grapes, and today it was mushrooms, now of course when I bring it to their attention, they give me the money I'm due, but I could see this happening once occasionally, but three out of four times that is purposefully being done or there is absolutely no management. I have NEVER had this happen at Safeway or at grocery outlet. I think that the owners need to reevaluate their employees because this is unacceptable behavior.

The lady who took my order was very nice. After looking at the menu I decided to go with the chili dog being they advertised Nathan's hot dogs. It was very tasty just the right amount of chili and cheese where I could pick it up and eat without making a huge mess. Crinkle cut fries as well. It was a good experience, with good food and OK service. There is a dedicated lot next to the stand alone building, so parking was easy. The open sign was on, but the ambiance appeared sleepy, so guessing that it gets a lot busier later in the day. There were two people working, and once we got the front-of-house's attention, were seated at a comfortable table for 4. Complementary chips and salsa were provided Reviews and self-proclamations clearly state that birria (beef) was worth getting, so my wife got the Quesadilla Birria ($13.99), and her mom got the Camarones al Ajillo (shrimp in garlic sauce $19.99). The menudo wasn't available, so I got the Pozole ($15.75) instead. They have cans and bottles of soda and beer, with a can of Coke being $2.50. Everything was good. The quesadilla was more like a grilled burrito (or chimichanga), and had been nicely crisped. My wife really enjoyed it. The shrimp plate came with rice and beans, which were OK, and choice of flour or corn tortilla (average). The large prawns were nicely cooked with a flavorful sauce. My pozole had good flavor without too much fat (the excess had obviously been skimmed) and was quite hot, though I wish it had more hominy and pork. My wife later found out that the meat used here is butchered on-site and that care is taken to remove excess fat. It really shows: all the meat dishes were not greasy and there wasn't the pools of fat that often accompany hastily prepared dishes. It was appreciated. Clover is the payment processor and there is a 3% fee for using a credit card.
