Popped in for a quick drip coffee. Nothing fancy. No half caffeine, soy milk latte with a cinnamon…read moresprinkle and the tears of an organic, free range moose. Just a coffee. Drip. Creamer. They had those little palmier pastries, the little u-shaped ones that are flakey and sweet. Ate it as I walked out the door. Possibly the best one I've ever had. The coffee was a dark roast. Exactly what you'd expect. I didn't spend a lot of time there, but it looked like a nice place to have a sip and a bite and conversation with a friend. Will I come back? Absolutely, the next time I'm in Boulder. Might be a while, but this place goes into the "Saved" folder.

We were foiled in our attempt to get coffee at The Dairy Center, but this spot was quite close. The shop is a bit crowded with lots of round tables and a small amount of counter seating facing the outside windows. There's a wall of bookshelves stocked with reading material. There's also some outside seating. The staff was friendly, but it seemed to take an extremely long time to make my girlfriend's latte. We were both tired and a bit cranky, so perhaps we were impatient. It actually took about six minutes to make that one drink, after checking my notes. Hmmm. I don't know what they do when they get busy. My girlfriend reported that her latte was fine, so I guess that's the conclusion. Pretty average.

We came for a weekend brunch around 11 am and got seated immediately, but by the time we finished our meal, the restaurant was completely packed and it looked like there was a bit of a wait outside. I started off with their peach oolong team and love that all their teas come served in a pot. My husband and I split the Palatschinken, which are Austrian crepes stuffed with sweetened cheese and topped with an apricot cherry chutney and candied walnuts. Reminded me of a fancy blintz and I'm here for it! It was on their small plates menu so came with two small pieces, which was perfect size for us to wet our appetites. For my main course, I got the Lapsang Souchong Benedict. The tea flavor throughout the dish was light, almost an aromatic note. My husband went with the classic two eggs, potatoes and a biscuit. All done very well and tasty! The building itself is gorgeous. It's a gift from Boulder's sister city in Tajikistan, and the entire structure was handcrafted by Tajik artisans before being shipped over. The ornate decor inside with hand-carved pillars and ceiling paintings is just breathtaking. You'll feel as if you've been transported straight to Dushanbe. I also loved the variety of their menu that features dishes along the Silk Road spanning from Central Asian to South East Asian. Definitely a memorable stop and lives up to the hype. Highly recommend to check this out, but come earlier to beat the crowd.

Check out the ceilings pictured! This is a great place to go if you'd like to try something new. The menu is varied and representative of the different cultures in Central Asia. Thank you to the people of Tajikistan for such a lovely restaurant! Dushanbe, Tajikistan's capital, is a sister city of Boulder, and this teahouse was a wonderful gift.
