One thing that REALLY irritated me when we went on Monday is that they were closed ... bad on me for not checking their hours So we came back today. Briefly saw Toni come in for literally a minute as we were placing our orders, but she rushed back out. The mart is on the right side, while the cafe is on the left side with casual seating/tables. Order your food at the counter and they bring it to your table when ready. We ordered caldereta, sisig, dinuguan, BBQ pork skewers, fresh lumpia and for the sweets: Milo iskrambol, mango float, ube buchi, and because we spent over $40, I got a FREE mais con yelo! Heck yeah!! Of course, the kids loved all the sweets! They couldn't pick a favorite between all the frozen drinks: "all were sooo good!" Food was all good also! Their dinuguan was ON POINT... almost as good as mine! Will definitely be back next time we're in the area!

I will say that it was spicy. I found it hard to eat the whole bowl all at once. Note that it's also a grocery store but there are tables for you to dine in if you wanted to. Overall, I will be back :)

The dirty chai was the best I've ever tasted! Gold Star 100% top notch winner winner tea for dinner!!! I also got the Monkey Business cold frappe. It is a perfect blend of bananas, vanilla and cinnamon. Not as good as the dirty chai but still excellent in its own right! I left very impressed and wanting more.

"It's not just Medusa that I have to fear," Diana of the Wild Isle, Daughter of Circe, and the Last…read moreof the Amazons, reminds herself as she steps confidently towards danger in Kelly Thompson and Mattia De Iulis's Absolute Wonder Woman Annual #1 (2026). "First, it will be her sisters. Stheno and Euryale. Gorgons...'Dread monsters' in the oldest texts....And yet, they have stayed by their sister's side, even though a glance from her would turn them into stone. That is love," Diana realizes, even as she contemplates that, soon, the misty cave floor under her feet will be beset with violence, meted out by Medusa's sisters, before Diana even gets a chance to explain that she is trespassing in the hopes of obtaining for Medusa the ultimate form of social justice: permanent chances for her to "look other soul[s] in the eyes...and be seen." The Black female ownership, the management, and the staff at Love Life Cafe, a snug coffee house nestled at 929 Washington Blvd in Laurel, Maryland, are fully aware how being seen is intertwined with social justice, kindness, and customer service. Black artists' drawings and paintings, some of which are for sale, adorn the walls, including "Wakanda Forever," featuring Chadwick Boseman, whom the world heartbreakingly lost too soon to cancer; "Say Their Names: Black Lives Matter," featuring Sandra Bland; whom her communities bitterly lost to police brutality; and, in a hope-filled change of pace, "Looking Up at Greatness," depicting two-year-old Parker Curry's recognition and wonder at seeing Amy Sherald's portrait of Michelle Obama at the National Portrait Gallery in March of 2018. So far, my wife has enjoyed a life-sized latte with extra hot cardamom oat milk; a life-sized cafe au Lait with the same; an açaí bowl, minus the honey and adding kiwi, pineapple, and mango; and a life-sized Hollaback Girl latte. Meanwhile, I was thrilled to devour a banana, cinnamon, and vanilla frappe appropriately dubbed "Monkey Business."

It took me a couple of years to check out the place because I wasn't sure if "Brews" meant they served coffee or beer. Either one seemed a little quirky, but when I found out it was coffee, I tried it out. (I like to support non-chain coffee places.) The service, especially by the woman who runs the place, is often chatty and friendly. The coffee is good. I highly recommend the mocha; they make the syrup from scratch using dark chocolate so it is not so overwhelmingly sweet. It's my favorite mocha in the area. They also sell a variety of canned and bottled beverages. The seating and coffee bar are industrial-looking; there is a handmade concrete counter, wood and metal seating, and shelves backed with corrugated metal displaying their wares. They have an amazing selection of boutique-y ice creams, and they sell a variety of whole beans. They sell a dessert where they take your selection of ice cream and pour over coffee or matcha. So good! I go there to journal or read. There is a wall of a local nature photographer's works, which are lovely. There's a mini library by the front door that also displays mini artworks by customers, and another shelf near the seating for reading while you are in the store. There is also a seed library where you can pick up and donate seeds!

The portions were huge, the ice cream was tasty, and the presentation was great! The staff was kind and friendly and we appreciated being able to see our orders getting made. Be warned that this is not a place for a little treat - we easily could have split one rolled ice cream and been perfectly satisfied. The space was a little small with limited seating but it was very inviting all the same. Certainly hope to make it back very soon and try more of their menu!

So, creme roulee - rolled ice cream - was a dessert trend from over 10 years ago, but I have never…read moreheard of it. This style of ice cream originated in France. Rolled ice cream is made by flattening an ultra-thin layer of ice cream out and then rolling it up. See the videos I posted if you've never experienced it. The flavors of rolled ice cream that I tried are ube and blueberry. The blueberry had a blueberry puree on top. The ube was served with whipped cream and toasted coconut. Delightful. I only wish that I had a double espresso to go with it. The flavors of rolled ice cream that are most popular here, so far, are: 1.) Birthday Cake 2.) Strawberry Cheesecake, and 3.) Cookies and cream The team here was also passionate about the ube flavor. We also tried the strawberry yogurt shake, which was delicious. BTW, someone ordered a croffle and it smelled like a buttery breakfast. It is a croissant pressed into a waffle form. We *needed* to get one to share. They have many toppings, but if you're going to order this croffle for breakfast, the plain whipped cream (vs. the mango cream) is not sweet, but creamy and satisfying. The croffle is substantial and eggy. It is very surprising because it's hearty bite after bite. There are no light and flakey bites and before you know it, it's gone. You get your dollar's worth, here. It's a good breakfast. And you can dip the croffle into your house coffee which is even better. I also put some of the croffle cream into the coffee. The house coffee is made from a machine and tastes dark and sweet. Yum. I am wondering where else you would find this no-longer trending trend - of French rolled ice cream - in the DC area. I found 10 places on yelp but only 3 mentioned rolled ice cream in the search result descriptions. The staff here are friendly, informative and patient. The environment is simple, yet elegant. A definite new texture and flavor adventure was found here, to be sure. Thank you, Laurel!
