I ordered a latte and some beignets for the road with white chocolate sauce, and OMG - so so yummy! I loved my little piece of NOLA in MD. & my next time in the area, I will for sure be returning. This location is super fitting too, with a lot of customers coming with their laptop or workbooks to not only eat and be served, but to use the space for their own personal development.

This review is about service and class and who I will and will not trust to prepare what I consume…read more I ordered a Velvet ice with oat milk. The woman taking my order added "no whip" because she assumed I didn't want dairy at all. When I asked for the whip they, with a nasty attitude, told me I had to pay extra. That didn't make sense to me considering the photo shows whip cream included. They started having a conversation in the back about me for making this simple request pointing out what their menu shows. I then pulled up the menu, waited in line again, and I showed them the menu and the mobile app which both show whip included and which you actually have to deselect it and neither has an additional fee. The woman preparing my order acknowledged that she deselected it on my behalf since I asked for oat milk. At this point - this is absolutely not about the whip cream or the upcharge, it is the abhorrent service, the aggressive demeanor, and the unexplained disdain I was shown when I treated both women with nothing but respect from the moment I walked in to the moment I walked out of the establishment. ATP the woman who took my order saw the issue and was going to resolve it by, of course, adding the included whip cream! However, the manager, DJ returned and interfered refusing to allow her to do so & going on a rant directed at me when I was not at all in communication with her. Then, as she was returning my order (which included a tip btw!!) she proceeded to attempt to insult me by saying, "if you don't have 70 cents to pay for this, just say so." For the record, the tip I left was more than the 70 cents so that obviously did not land well. Throughout this dumbfounding experience, I was standing there, my voice calm, not raised, in a store full of my customers (after I patiently waited in line a second time) at 10 months pregnant. We all have bad days, but on so many levels, this cannot be acceptable at any point. To insult someone to try to win a "debate" over a non-issue in an industry where some of us remember "the customer is always right," is despicable at best. I hope someone finds a training opportunity in this, but I will not return to ever find out.

We stopped by the cafe for a couple of beers before heading back to our part of MD. I think we originally wanted to have a meal there, but the patio was full so we went to another location for lunch. I thought New Deal Cafe had a decent variety of draft beers. Ok, so the selection included three IPAs and one lager. However, IPAs are my beer go-to so it worked for me. The service at the bar was great. Our bartender, Renee, was quite hilarious. I got the sense that this is local "where everybody knows you name" because the customers seemed super social with each other. Looking forward to our next New Deal Cafe visit.

The back room (separated from the front) has the sound stage and additional tables (where patrons and also order and dine while enjoying the music). At the front there is also a big screen tv where the performance is "streamed" from the other space. Cool concept that also works in practice. They have all types of music, open mic, and karaoke. Foodwise they have a menu that is vegan-friendly. A small case of pastries are available as well as wine and beer. A cheesesteak and wings business also seem to be operating in that space. We got drinks (me, green tea) and others also got pastries for dine in. Everything was good and the service was very welcoming. Had to leave before the band started but will catch a performance soon. Great local business!

It took me a couple of years to check out the place because I wasn't sure if "Brews" meant they served coffee or beer. Either one seemed a little quirky, but when I found out it was coffee, I tried it out. (I like to support non-chain coffee places.) The service, especially by the woman who runs the place, is often chatty and friendly. The coffee is good. I highly recommend the mocha; they make the syrup from scratch using dark chocolate so it is not so overwhelmingly sweet. It's my favorite mocha in the area. They also sell a variety of canned and bottled beverages. The seating and coffee bar are industrial-looking; there is a handmade concrete counter, wood and metal seating, and shelves backed with corrugated metal displaying their wares. They have an amazing selection of boutique-y ice creams, and they sell a variety of whole beans. They sell a dessert where they take your selection of ice cream and pour over coffee or matcha. So good! I go there to journal or read. There is a wall of a local nature photographer's works, which are lovely. There's a mini library by the front door that also displays mini artworks by customers, and another shelf near the seating for reading while you are in the store. There is also a seed library where you can pick up and donate seeds!
