I'm writing this review from 7 Days A Week Smog Test's waiting room prior to even knowing if my car passed smog or not. Regardless of whether or not it passes, this place is great. Every one is super nice and the waiting room has snacks (including a fridge stocked with soda), WIFI and also two work stations with computers set up for customers to use while waiting. I'll preface this with noting how much I hate walking on San Pablo. It's a gross road and anything female is bound to get a whistle or 'hey baby'. Fortunately I bought a car and drove it to California. Before going to the DMV, I yelped this place and decided it's close to home and seems worth trying. The only people working there were guys in their 20s and 30s. So in my head, I'm like 'great, just great'. However, I was treated so nicely and with respect. Didn't know what to expect, but the people were friendly, the service was fast, they have taken care to provide comfortable waiting conditions, and at the end when I passed (whew!) they gave me a quick but efficient overview of my car. It has been a little while since I had my smog test done. I believe it was September of 2008, but I had to come back and write them a review! After my experience there, I will no longer take my car anywhere else to get a smog! The service I received was impeccable! I only had two days before my smog was due for DMV. I was concerned that my car wouldn't pass the smog because it is an older model. I called around to see where I could get a smog right away, possibly during my lunchtime. They not only guaranteed that I could have it done, but that if I came right away, I would be in and out in about 20 minutes.They were right! They also gave me a $20.00 discount which I believe would have been given with the yellow page ad they had running at the time. And I have never been to a smog station where they offered you computers with free wi-fi, a variety of drinks and snacks, and plenty of magazines of all kinds to keep you occupied. I wouldn't have minded spending more time in the wait room, but my smog took less than 15 minutes! Shit, even though I haven't had my pipes checked by another spot, I'm pretty sure that's still a good ass price and time. Loved the quaint seating area outside. There's seating inside too, but I opted for some sun since it was such a beautiful day. The guys working were great, polite as polite can be. I was referred by a friend to 7 days a week smog, and I'm very very pleased with the service. I got my car tested about 2 weeks ago and I was in and out in less than 30 minutes. The staff was super friendly and informative, and I felt right at home. It's been 2 weeks since my smog test, and the DMV still has not processed my registration. I called the shop to find out if there were any hiccups in the reporting, and the gentleman that answered gave me the step-by-step on the phone on hhow to pull up my smog test results online, and how to (if need be) take that info to the DMV in order to get my registration processed. I love this place, and I really felt like the staff went above and beyond to ensure I get what I need. I'll never get smogged at another place, so long as I live in Berkeley. Thank you guys! I just brought my old car in for the mandatory 2 year smog check. 1st time experience on a Friday: I failed and though the team there was friendly the customer service was a bit disappointing. I felt a bit rushed and that's certainly not the kind of feeling you want when you fail and need detailed explanations. 2nd time experience on a Sunday: the weekend team rocks, and I'm not saying this because I passed this time. After reading the reviews here, I went to the Richmond location, which is nearer to my home. The service was fast and friendly. The shop was tiny, very clean, and had a great assortment of magazines and even some books on local history and music to pass the time while waiting. There were snacks and drinks available as well. It's 'first come, first served', but though there were two people ahead of me, I was out of there in half an hour. I won't be going anywhere else for my smogging needs in the future! read more

Awesomest smog place everest. I usually get all uncomfortable at any type of automotive place because there is usually at least 1 leery fellow leering about. This isn't that kind of place. When I drove over, they had someone swinging a big arrow pointing to the smog parking lot, and when I pulled into the driveway the wife (I'm assuming) came right to my door, took my paperwork, and suggested I go inside where they had plenty of nail-salon quality magazines (GOOD THING!) and computers with internet access. Nothing fancy but not as janky as it could be. When my car was done, the guy came to get me and I swear he said something like, " Congratulations, your car passed the smog test. Take your time, pay when you're ready." I felt like a winner! Top notch smog experience. (He was going to charge me $80 for my '98 Civic until I mentioned our phone call the previous day where he said I'd get $20-off for mentioning I heard about them on Yelp! so I paid $60. I read the reviews before I went t here and rolled my eyes. It's a smog check shop. How good could it possibly be? The verdict is in. All those five-star reviews? They're spot-on. The staff is courteous and extremely friendly. The waiting room is clean and comfortable, with free wifi, snacks, drinks, and a couple of computers. There are plants, ferchrissakers. Live ones. In a smog check shop. They even seemed to be healthy, which is more than I can say for any of the ones I've ever had. I was out of there so quickly that I didn't have time to finish my soda. If I could muster one teeny tiny complaint it's that they moved my driver's seat. If you'd like, you can think of this as a 4.98 star review rather than a 5.0. I found this place on YELP! I went on Sunday, so that is great that they are open on Sundays! As soon as I parked my car, the guy came and started filling out the form with my car information, even before I got out of my car! Very quick, I like that! The regular price was around $79, but he offered $20 discount for YELP. So I paid $59. They had free WIFI in waiting room, and he finished the test in less than 10 mins! I called a Volvo dealership to ask them how much they would charge to ge the car ready to pass - they told me $390 flat rate. I haven't written many reviews at all but I really felt the need to reactivate my account after my experience with seven days a week smog. My husband and I recently moved to California and in order to register your car you need to pass smog. I had no idea what I was getting into. First, I knew my check engine light was on but didn't realize that merited an automatic fail. So I took the car in to have it looked at and they basically couldn't find anything wrong with it so sent me on my way after resetting the engine light. The computers that sdaw have are apparently more advanced than the mechanics and they could tell that there was still an issue and sure enough the check engine light came on again. Before that happened though, I was shown how the computer was diagnosing this, what it should look like and was informed about the different parameters a car needed to meet in order to pass. I felt like they were working with me and really had a vested interest in seeing me pass. So I took it back to the mechanics who said, oh yeah, it does look like your O2 sensor that you just had replaced. The aftermarket one must be faulty. They put in a manufacturer's O2 sensor, I drove the car around a bit to make sure the car's computer had enough data points (as Scott and Steve had explained to me), went back and passed! Scott and Steve are a treasure trove of information, really good at explaining their craft and made me feel like they cared. I know the other reviews say this place is also really speedy and it's true. These guys are super efficient. What could have been a really frustrating nightmare of an experience was made pleasant by the professionalism of Scott and Steve. Cannot recommend enough. I will for sure be seeing them again in two years! read more

I would like to highly recommend Scott Brown who was incredibly professional and knowledgeable. I had a strange suspicion that my car wouldn't pass an inspection of any kind after 1) it broke down on the Bay Bridge, 2) the air compressor belt snapped off, and 3) the engine mysteriously had no oil in it. But, I figured I would give it one last chance to prove itself. Scott helped me over multiple visits and charged me NOTHING for all the advice on what to do with my dying car as well as the testing. I have no doubt that the rest of the employees at 7 Days a Week Smog Test are equally amazing, and if I ever buy another car that works in CA, I'll bring it here to get smogged. read more

Both times I've taken my car to this little shop I've left bowled over by their service and sweet treatment. You can call ahead and they'll give you a good idea of both how fast it'll take to test your particular car and how busy they are. Both times I've gone there, I was in and out in about 15 minutes. They have a couple Internet stations to sit and surf while you wait (along with WiFi), but with the kind of turn-around I've had--i'm not there long enough to do much. Great service. When I pulled up, and there is a sign that makes it perfectly clear where you're supposed to park, a customer service fella came right over to me. Alex was friendly and got my paperwork taken care of quickly. When he asked how I heard of them I said, "I think I just Googled it?" and he mentioned they give a $20 discount to those who find them on Yelp, to which I added, "Oh I definitely cross-checked on Yelp!" I agree with everything positive that everyone else has said. The people here are so nice and the service is so fast. My "check engine" light was on and the guy told me that my car would not pass just because of that! He turned it off for me, told me to drive around, come back, and then he would test my car. It totally passed!!! Nothing had been wrong with my car other than something electrical... not related to my smog situation at all. That was rad. Don't think about it, just go there. This was my 2nd time having them test my car. If all you're looking for is a place to get a smog check without the frills, then this is it. If you need your hand held through the process, then this isn't the place for you. The guys are great, there is a little room to sit in while waiting for your car, and it isn't a hassle to check out. The service technicians are very friendly. From start to finish I'd say I was there no more than 10 minutes.
