The new location is a very nice space and the bartenders used to be very efficient. There used to be a good mix of people of all ages in the bar until later in the night when it goes to mostly college age. There are lots of televisions, pool tables, and other games available. They used to have really great bar food and some very tasty debris fries but my last visit was terrible food and no more debris fries on the menu. They literally used to have the best cheese fries in town but no longer. My favorite time here used to be on Tuesday when they had $2 almost anything... well actually almost every night of the week they USED to have some really great drink special going on so it is always was a good place to go for cheap drinks and decent food. In the past you could easily check out their website for the daily specials but now they don't have a functioning website? I also used to frequently end up here for various gatherings but the groups that I used to meet here don't seem to meet here anymore. It is awful to see such a formerly fantastic New Orleans institution fall so far down from what it used to be. Bruno's you can do a LOT better!

Well, this is our 3rd time with issues at the Gen De Gaulle location and we finally done. Every…read moretime we are there and it's empty, we have the worst service. we walked in yesterday to get a quick lunch to take home. there were 2 other people inside but they were eating and no one was waiting. There was a large sign by the door advertising the French dip WITH AU JUS. The first time we ordered this off the menu they forgot the au jus, which is the whole point of the sandwich. This time we ordered, and they usually have a spinner with all the types of toppings available. It's no longer there so I asked if there was a list somewhere I wasn't seeing. He said no but he could read them all off to me. I said sure And after awkwardly going through the huge list of toppings one by one and either yes or no from me, my sandwich was ordered. My husband ordered the French dip with au jus- excited since there was actually a large display for it, so he would get it this time. Again, no one waiting and 2 guys working the line. We waited easily 15 minutes for 2 sandwiche. handed us the bag and we checked for au jus. None. I asked if we could get the au just for the French dip. "Oh yeah, we ran out." I'm sorry what? it's literally early-mid afternoon and you're out? And you didn't think to tell people ordering the specific sandwich that comes with that, that you didn't have it? I told him that was the whole point of the au jus sandwich. He said "yeah we don't have it. Do you want a cookie instead?" Wtf. A cookie? No, I told him that we didn't want that sandwich if it didn't have half the component. One guy said they couldn't replace it. I explained that it was their fault and they should have told the paying customer at order time they didn't have it. OR crazy idea here, even during. It's an easy pivot to switch toppings for a new sandwich. I asked again saying we didn't want what they made and finally after saying it a few times, one guy said fine I guess we will make one. My husband was so done, this already took them 15 minutes to make and said he wasn't waiting on them and he was so angry. Twice now he's tried ordering this and no au jus. The employees here 90% of the time need major training in speeding up and also customer service. Being efficient and friendly goes a long way. This location absolutely is suffering in that area.

On our visit we were lucky to get a table by the window with a view of the street car passing by. The staff was amazing taking our drink orders when seated. They also gave us plenty of time to look over the menu while we sipped on our martinis. My spouses loved the Hawaiian steak, and I devoured into the red fish. Both were excellent. Also, I need to add one of our party was a picky eater and actually ordered a cheeseburger and freaking loved it. Houston's did not disappoint on our visit. I highly recommend for couples and small groups who are seeking a relaxed, fine environment.

So when my local spot abruptly closed, I was genuinely looking forward to getting back and ordering my usual. We walked in and headed straight for the bar, but were stopped by the hostess who asked my friend to finish her phone call before entering the bar area. Slightly odd... but fine, rules are rules, I guess. I ordered my standard: ribs with cabbage and broccoli, plus a traditional salad. Unfortunately, this visit didn't live up to the brand's usual reputation. The ribs were much saucier than I prefer and somehow still managed to be a bit dry. I didn't even bother finishing them, and definitely didn't consider taking leftovers home. For a $40 dish, that was disappointing. The vibe also felt off. It was Easter Sunday, and while there were supposedly no reservations available, the restaurant was oddly empty. No music, low energy... just not the Houston's experience I'm used to. Will I be back? Highly likely. But next time, I'm sticking to what I know they consistently get right, the salad.
