Grilled Redfish, Crispy Rock Shrimp, Coleslaw
Brandi W.

Houston's takes great pride in remaining one of those restaurants who remain consistent in both service and food. On this visit, I was able to grab a spot at the bar. The bartenders are always friendly and attentive. I had the Grilled Redfish with Crispy Rock Shrimp which is served with Coleslaw. Everything was amazingly tasty. The redfish was a generous portion, though I wished for a tad bit more spice. In addition, in a world where people shun coleslaw, Houston's has the best. I certainly enjoyed this dinner service.

Houston's never disappoints for lunch. We went for my wife's birthday lunch and they were amazing. From the smoked salmon appetizer, to the dirty rice; they were slacked with flavor and textures. The grilled red fish with peppers was tender and amazing. The Fish sandwich is an amazing addition that I wish it was permanent.

Service is always great here. The restaurant and its atmosphere is perfect for a girls night out, family dinner or romantic meal. The Hawaiian Steak is also always great. Te Dee and full of flavor. My husband loves the ribs. They are fall off the bone tender and well flavored. The red cabbage was not bad, and the baked potato was perfect. Houston's always delivers a good meal. I'd recommend it.

They are back to always having baked potatoes so the 5 star review can return! This is the most consistent restaurant and it's always so good. I've recently become obsessed with the crisp martini too

We avoided the Houston's near our home in during Mardi Gras, thus it was a must to hit this weekend. Once again, the reason you go to Houston's is for perfect food, excellent service and spot on ambience. Kyle B., our server was pleasant beyond measure, attentive, and knowledgeable. I was quite specific about how I wanted my steak and it arrived to perfection (see photo). I've become quite fond of the German beer they serve and highly recommend you give it a try . (See photo.). Houston's attention to detail and friendly floor managers, (enjoyed our visit with Jacob), are just one of many reasons to return. Thanks, as always, for another great date night., Fondly, Mary Ann and Marty Kauchak

I'm so in love with the Smoked Salmon appetizer! I'm such a creature of habit with ordering the same appetizer or entree but decided to try it. I have been missing out! The cut of salmon is generous and the flavor, paired with the house-made sauce is so delectable! The bartender suggested to try it with the mild Tabasco Sauce and he was not wrong! It adds just a slight amount of "kick" to it. I enjoyed my fave, classic Tito's Cosmopolitan along with my appetizer. This duo is a sure win!‍

Food was absolutely amazing. 10/10 Much better than Fleming's if you ask me and at a much better price. The service from the Host to the server was awesome and the Restaurant gave that New Orleans classic up upscale vibe. It was dimly lit and felt elegant but casual at the same time. I will definitely be going back.

Came early on a Friday and sat at the bar. I tried the crab cakes and cod sandwich. Both were good. I didn't love our bartender, Taylor. She was very forgetful of items we ordered and wasn't very attentive. I might come back but I'd sit at a table.

I finally tried out Houston's! I've passed here many times but never stopped in until one Sunday night. My boyfriend and I split the tuna sashimi salad and the Hawaiian steak. Both were great! I wish the steak came with another side like broccoli and it was a little small but it was still tasty. I liked the ambience inside and the service was good. I would like to go back and try a few other things.

The service was top notch. Very kind and patient waiters. The food is always cooked to order so you know it's fresh and delicious. The whole vibe is classy and clean and entertaining. One of my favorite restaurants in New Orleans

I usually love going to Houston's for a nice occasion, but this visit kind of disappointed me :/ We always get the usual: Ceasar salad with chicken and The Hawaiian steak but this is how it came out.... and somehow it was still rare!!! Lemon drops and salad were great but steak was disappointing to say the least.

Having been to many Hillstone Group restaurants in California, we were excited to try our first outside of our home state. I'm glad to say Houston's exceeded expectations on both the cuisine and decor fronts. The interior seemed intended to resemble the adjacent streetcar and was a perfect venue for an elegant, but not stuffy midday meal. It'd be easy to spend hours enjoying the ambiance. The food was even a step above the counterpart dishes at other Hillstones. My kale salad (minus chicken, augmented by extra cheese) was bolstered by the Parmesan being shredded instead of grated so that the flavor to bite ratio skyrocketed. It could use a slightly higher portion of peanut dressing but was still a dish I'd have just about every day. Plus, they gave a discount for the removal of chicken which is an unusual nicety extended by few restaurants. My dining partner's sashimi was better dressed than the versions she'd had elsewhere and the side salad was a real green salad rather than an amalgam of veggies. The only downside was the service was very robotic and curt. Our server seemed to be delivering his lines by rote and even his friendliness felt scripted. Plus, he offered us the dessert menu before we were halfway done with our entrees and even offered us boxes, suggesting that we had eaten enough when we were still eating. Who likes to have the insulation that they have eaten too much or too little? His service was a net negative but still didn't take away from the overall excellent meal. I'd just recommend they allow diners to enjoy their meal of their own volition and find a way to make their presence less stilted.

Rich, layered, and well-balanced with fresh elements that worked together on the plate. For entrées, we had a variety of cuts, including the Australian Wagyu, ribeye, butcher's cut, and lamb chops. The Wagyu stood out immediately. High quality, great sear, and finished tableside, which added to the overall experience without taking away from the food itself. Each steak was cooked precisely to temperature and full of flavor. The lamb chops paired with carrots and brussels were well executed and balanced. The sides complemented the meal well and did not feel like afterthoughts. You can also see their in-house dry aging setup, which speaks to the level of detail they put into their steak program. It shows in the final product. The drinks were solid across the board. The Old Fashioned and bourbon selections paired well with the meal and matched the food's quality. Service by Noelle was attentive and responsive throughout the night. Everything flowed well, and we were taken care of without feeling rushed or hovered over. This is not a casual dinner spot, but for a celebration or a night where you want a full experience, Doris Metropolitan absolutely delivers.

Glancing at the hostess, asking "OK to sit at the bar?", getting a nod, sitting down. An experience we've done in hundreds of restaurants. (We had reservations for a table but often prefer the bar.) The bartender -- whom we believe was named Mike -- started off his interaction with new customers as follows. "Did you check with the hostess?" I nodded in the affirmative, apparently that wasn't enough. "Check with the hostess", he ordered. I got up, went over the hostess stand, and confirmed, this time so "Mike" could see, that it was OK for us to sit at a half-empty bar. (In retrospect, we should have gotten up and walked out immediately, but it was late and even in the Quarter most places were closing for dinner.) You see, Mike clearly didn't want to be working that night. He was rude, inattentive, and condescending. And not just to us, to everyone seated at the bar. Slow making drinks, slow asking for orders, seething contempt for his customers. One time we asked to see a drink menu to decide on a new drink, he said, and this is a direct quote, "Do you want to see it or do you want to review it?" Mike's behavior was clearly well-known to the staff, because another staff member, who was off-shift and next to us at the bar, witnessed this behavior and arranged for a free dessert on the house (classy move on her part). She confided in us that Mike's pretty much always like that, but that he's a buddy of the general manager so seemingly un-fireable. Well, here's hoping someone reads this and thinks the better of Doris Metropolitan, or at least sitting at the bar. Unless you think service you'd get in a Paris tourist trap cafe is appropriate for a high-end steakhouse, you're better off spending your hard-earned money elsewhere.

Now I'm sure the hostess is accustom to people bringing in their pets and lying that they're service dogs, so she told me that we had to sit outside. That's obviously illegal, we got the manager involved, the manager quickly understood that we weren't bringing a pet and got us sat inside. We ordered drinks, they took a long time to come out. I asked the grade of the Wagyu on the Manhattan steak, and the server told me it was "6 or 12 or something" Wagyu obviously comes A1-A5, so I asked him to go check. He came back and said it was A5. Not knowing Wagyu grades, and the drinks taking a while was the only place the service was lacking, he was otherwise delightful. $70 bucks seemed kind inexpensive for an A5, but I had never actually had one before so I ordered it medium rare. We ordered the seafood platter, that was fine, the breading on the shrimp was kinda soggy. Main courses comes out, and my medium rare steak was literally back black and blue. It was still cold in the center. I'm not one to send food back, but I couldn't eat it. Sent it back. It comes back quickly... too quickly, still way under cooked. Sent it back a 3rd time. At that point the rest of my family was done eating and I asked for it to just be removed instead. Which they did, and they boxed it up for me anyway in addition to comping all of our drinks, which was of course very nice. I ended up eating that steak for lunch the next day, and IF it was Wagyu, it was A1, there is a 0% chance that had the marbling to be an A5, I've had prime New York's from CostCo that had better marbling. So I give them 2 stars, the server had some learning to do, been there, but was very nice. They made up for their errors on the bill, I appreciate that, but we still went there with higher expectations. 2 stars is kind.

From the moment we sat down, the staff set the tone--professional, genuinely friendly, and impressively efficient. We began with a trio of starters that showcased both richness and restraint. The foie gras torchon was silky and indulgent, perfectly complemented by fruit confiture and warm, toasted Bellegarde Bakery bread--a classic pairing done right. Marinated crab claws, dressed in a lively chili vinaigrette, delivered a bright, briny punch, while the pickled pineapple and jalapeño chips added just the right balance of sweetness and heat. A cucumber salad rounded out the starters, crisp and refreshing, acting as a welcome palate reset before the mains. For entrées, comfort and finesse shared the plate. The confit chicken thighs were meltingly tender, paired with ham-braised greens swimming in a tangy apple cider vinegar broth. A lovely Dijon cream tied everything together, adding richness without overwhelming the dish. Equally memorable was the half smoked duck, beautifully executed and deeply flavorful, served over a smooth pumpkin-sweet potato purée. The cherry bourbon glaze brought a subtle sweetness, while the pepitas added texture and a nutty finish. Dessert was the perfect exclamation point on an already wonderful meal: a slice of hot chocolate cheesecake, decadent and deeply chocolaty, crowned with toasted marshmallow fluff that leaned just enough into nostalgia without crossing into excess. Toups Meatery continues to deliver thoughtful, soulful cooking with polish and heart--comfort food elevated, served by a team that clearly knows what they're doing. That's clearly communicated when you're greeted, so naturally it sets the expectation for shareable portions. We started with the ricotta and meatballs. Overall, portions felt on the smaller side, but the ricotta, especially at $18, was honestly a bit shocking in size. When we asked about it, a server jokingly said "inflation." I get it, but still. The two guys I dined with come here often and were actually the ones pointing out that portions have seemed to shrink. For mains, we each ordered a pasta. One was a server recommended agnolotti with crab, corn, and roe. It was decent, but the broth felt a bit too loose and could've used more depth and richness. That said, the crab portion was generous, the pesto was great, and the red sauce pasta was solid. We also ordered two pizzas, hands down the highlight of the meal. Easily the best thing we had. One small but off putting detail, the red pepper flakes were served in an open jar rather than a shaker. It made me question how many hands had been in it, especially since it appeared to have been reused from another table. Not the most sanitary presentation. Dessert was a strong finish. Panna cotta, tiramisu, and olive oil cake were all fresh and delicious. Drinks included a cocktail for me and beers plus an espresso martini for the table, all fine. Service wise, things started okay but felt rushed toward the end. We even mentioned we were still picking at food and what seemed to be a manager still cleared plates from the table. The tables themselves are also very small, which doesn't help when you're doing family style dining. Our server appeared to be training someone but never introduced them, which made things feel a bit awkward. Also, when resetting silverware, it felt rushed and a little careless, almost tossed onto the table rather than placed. Overall, the experience was good but not great. The food had its highlights, but portion sizes versus price and some service missteps held it back. 6/10, and honestly it reminded me why I hadn't felt the urge to come back before.
