The European delights that I used to pilgrim towards were yanked from my dreams like a lusty rabbit looking at a carrot. Enter Aji. Years later, my heart has begun to mend as delightful wine and a sweet couple have brought a much needed pop of culture to Greenville. Miki and Kevin were both wonderful hosts tonight; knowledgeable about their servings and treats which made my wife and I ooh and ah (looking at you chocolates and biscuits). The feel is modern and clean, cool and uptown and somehow relaxed at the same time. I plan to come work here in the day sometime (maybe to also get some bites of Made with Love baked goods - Aji is the only outlet for the treats!). The atmosphere begs for an audience and I think that's exactly what it should receive with applause. Come here for something different and delightful and likely decadent. Elevate your palate and have something around-the-worldly and make sure you say hello to Miki and Kevin as well!

At first, I was unsure if they were still an operating business post pandemic, but I returned during working hours on another day and was so pleased to find out they were! The parking lot was pretty full as it seemed several people were eating inside while many were taking their meals to go. This restaurant and bakery is conveniently located in the medical district. There are delicious, fresh made breads, sandwiches, and desserts available daily at such a low and affordable price! They also take custom orders (see my pictures) with advance notice. I was very pleased at what I ordered from here - a chicken salad sandwich on fresh sour dough bread, a bag of chips, and gooey butter cake for dessert. All for $8 packed nicely in a box. It was so hard to choose the dessert as there were about 10 different options, all of which appeared well made. This place is exactly what I like - options for chicken salad, egg salad, pimento cheese... No frills or fancy stuff, just good food that tastes like it was made at home for an affordable price. This is great for folks who work nearby and have some time for lunch or even those who want to treat a loved one for a special lunch in a box! I cannot wait to come back here to eat soon! Heck, I'll probably go today when they open

On Fridays, we eat tacos…read more Somewhere during the pandemic, my friend group decided we wanted to try birria tacos. We'd heard that there was one place in town where we could get them, which came highly recommended by a friend who'd been here. The caveat was that the birria tacos are only served on Fridays. So we planned to do birria tacos on Friday. We came here and got 4 orders of birria tacos. I added an agua de Jamaica to my order. While we waited, I perused the adjacent grocery store and purchased some Mexican Coca-Colas, conchas, and a box of mango Pulparindo. Soon enough, our order was ready. We took our goodies back to my place, turned on a good movie, and partook in our feast. These tacos are full of flavor. The meat is tender, and the cheese was perfectly melted inside the consome-soaked tortillas. The meal is served with pickled onion and habanero pepper, fresh cilantro and onions, limes, and a house-made hot sauce. Of course, in true birria fashion, there is a cup of hot consome in which to dunk the tacos. The freshness of the condiments perfectly compliments the fatty richness of the tacos. Jamaica is my favorite agua fresca and always reminds me of my favorite Caribbean drink, Sorrel, as they are both made from the hibiscus flower. Though Mexican Agua de Jamaica has a different flavor profile than Sorrel, it always fills me with a sense of comfort and nostalgia. Their Jamaica is delicious and comes in a huge cup, so you always get enough. Since this first visit, we've made taco Fridays a tradition. I always order the birria tacos and agua de Jamaica. I've also tried lots of their other tacos (asada, chicharron, pastor, lengua, etc.) as an add-on to my birria order, but the birria outshines them all. These tacos are absolutely wonderful and I highly recommend adding them to your Friday takeout tradition. Be sure to peruse the pastry case for a fresh dessert to finish your meal and pick up some other treats along the way.
