I had never heard of The Bread Lady until I made a wrong turn a few weeks ago and passed by it. The sign immediately caught my attention. At first, I was unsure if they were still an operating business post pandemic, but I returned during working hours on another day and was so pleased to find out they were! The parking lot was pretty full as it seemed several people were eating inside while many were taking their meals to go. This restaurant and bakery is conveniently located in the medical district. There are delicious, fresh made breads, sandwiches, and desserts available daily at such a low and affordable price! They also take custom orders (see my pictures) with advance notice. I was very pleased at what I ordered from here - a chicken salad sandwich on fresh sour dough bread, a bag of chips, and gooey butter cake for dessert. All for $8 packed nicely in a box. It was so hard to choose the dessert as there were about 10 different options, all of which appeared well made. This place is exactly what I like - options for chicken salad, egg salad, pimento cheese... No frills or fancy stuff, just good food that tastes like it was made at home for an affordable price. This is great for folks who work nearby and have some time for lunch or even those who want to treat a loved one for a special lunch in a box! I cannot wait to come back here to eat soon! The bread is amazing... ordered chicken salad on sundried tomato bread - fantastic and had a napoleon bar - yummy and purchased a loaf of Sourdough- It was perfect. A little bit of wonderful. read more

If I went alone, I'd give it 5 stars solid. But my wife prefers her chicken salad and potato salad a bit less sweet. But I thought both were delicious. So still 5 stars from me. The small scoop plate was fairly priced and a perfect light lunch. I had the chicken salad with crackers and a pickle, and a dessert (English toffee square). My wife had a chicken salad wrap with some fresh veggies, which she enjoyed with potato salad, which I finished. Dessert was very yummy . Buttery sweet and a bit salty. Perfect baked toffee squares, with almost a homemade caramel flavor. Really sweet and delicious, I just wish I asked for a corner piece. If I lived closer, I'd be a regular for desserts and would totally like to try some fresh baked breads available. I recommend this place. read more

I went there for the first time last week to get a takeout sandwich. I ordered a turkey and bacon wrap. Asked if I wanted chips, pretzels, pasta salad or potato salad. I picked the pasta salad and a chocolate chip cookies. Also got a container of pimento cheese out of the fridge. Receipt was sent to my e-mail. When I got home and looked at the receipt there was an upcharge for something plus they added a $4.11 TIPS and never asked or told me they were adding a tip. I tip for a takeout order. That is not acceptable to automatically add a tip to someone's order. read more

I put in an order for a baby shower cake for it to be ready for pick-up on Friday May 27, 2016. I received a call the day before it was supposed to be made and was told that I needed to re-send all of the information that I had previously provided, because they had lost it. I re-sent the information without thinking twice and with no fuss. On Friday, I went to the bakery to pick-up the cake and it was horrible. Hardly any of the instructions were followed. I told them I was not satisfied and wanted a full refund. After extensive conversation, she finally agreed to refund the money, but due to the holiday weekend, I would have to wait until Tuesday, May 31st. When Tuesday came, I went to the bakery and she refused to refund me and called the police stating that I had also threatened her daughters and caused a scene. So now I am out $160 for a cake I never took off of the premises. read more

Wow! I can't believe I'm the first to review this place. According to their web page, The Bread Lady got her start making bread, which is apparent as the bread homemade and always fresh. They don't have a large number of choices - less than a dozen sandwiches and a few hot entrees, but that is enough. You have your choice with your sandwich - it is available as just the sandwich or as a "box," which includes an egg or pickle, chips or pretzels and a dessert. The box was a good deal at $7.25 considering dessert was included. All of the items we tried were good. One area of improvement would be with the desserts. They all tasted good, however, they were often soggy due to being wrapped in plastic wrap. They have a drive thru for folks in a hurry. read more

Bread Lady oh how I miss you. This little spot is perfect to grab lunch. Their chicken salad sandwich and pimento cheese sandwiches are amazing. The BLT was my roommates favorite. I wanted to love this place since I work less than 2 minutes away, but I was really disappointed. I ordered an egg salad sandwich and asked for a slice of cheddar cheese. They girl never said anything about an up-charge at the drive-thru, but I assumed there would be one (no more than 75 cents.) I got to the window and my total was $9.90. I was in a hurry and paid and then once I realized that there was a TWO DOLLAR up-charge, I asked the girl and she shyly apologized as if she knew that the up-charge was absolutely ridiculous. A restaurant that is built around serving sandwiches really shouldn't charge $2 for a freaking slice of cheese. The worst part was that when I got back to work and opened the sandwich, it wasn't even cheddar cheese, it was nasty yellow american cheese. Seriously?! read more

It is a interesting place that I was not quite sure what they sold before I walked in the door. I was expecting some sort of a cup cake queen meats crazy bread person type of establishment. I was impressed that yes it did have bread, but also simple sandwiches and alot of desert. I got a box lunch with a chicken salad sandwich along with bag of chips, egg and of course desert. For the desert portion of my boxed lunch, I chose a peanut butter bar from a selection of about 20 other deserts. The food was good. I added a drink and with tax, I had about $9+ invested. Not too much to say here other than very good quality food. I have been eating at her establishment for over 4 years now and have brought many other individuals here. In the new building it really is a cozy atmosphere and the food is as good at always. First place I tried pimento cheese and have loved it ever since. I have been here once and never will return. Owner is unfriendly, staff is ok. Plenty of room to eat. I did buy some cupcakes which were not good. I have tried desserts at shows at it was not good, tossed it out. read more

I wouldn't go here unless there was no other place to get food on the planet. They provided poor service as well as hastily made cake (that was ordered well in advance). They promised a full refund and did not uphold their word. read more
