    Beer menu 7/01/23

I would give this brewery a 4.5 rating. If they had food options they would have a 5. Friendly and knowledgeable. The beers we tried were excellent and they were having trivia tonight.

As I've said in the past, I'm probably not the best judge of good beer... because I like most beer…read more BUT, for what it's worth, I'll say that, so far, I've been VERY pleased with the offerings from GBSB. They brew beer (on site) that will please almost any pallet. You're a fan of light and refreshing Wit beer? Yep. How about jet black (essentially) imperial stout? You're covered. Christmas ale and "French toast ale?" You're still good. IPAs, yeah sure of course. At any given time, it seems like GBSB will have between 20 and 25 beers on tap. Is the brewmaster stretching himself a little too thin?? Maybe. I wonder what would happen if they decreased the number of beers brewed at any given time and focused maybe JUST A LITTLE BIT more on quality. Regarding EtOH, they have more than just beer, but every time I've been here, I've only seen people drinking the fermentation of malted barley (and a little wheat). And for good reason...the beer is good! There's no food to speak of, but like most microbreweries around here, you can frequently find a food truck parked outside. The location (on Tedrow in South Toledo) is great. Inside, GBSB is clean and very comfortable. I'd say the taproom could be considered to be a little towards the "sports bar" side of the scale, but still, the TVs are not overly intrusive. Free popcorn. The service has always been great...fast and friendly. The prices? It's craft beer. Regarding the atmosphere again. Great Black Swamp Brewing is dog friendly. You can bring your dog(s) inside. Bring your dog but don't bring your mother-in-law. FOUR STARS, with the potential for 5.

This is Ohio and the weather here 7-8 months out of the year are not a open your windows type of deal. I like beer. I drink beer if Im going to drink most times out. I tried a flight here of 4 of their beers and did not find one that was good. For me. As my man was enjoying the atmosphere I even resorted to getting a glass of wine so we could hang for a bit. Service was just ok. They do have food trucks time to time. None when we were there. I can just imagine how cold it is in here in fall/winter with warehouse type spot atmosphere. Glad I checked it out but don't see any reason to return for me.

HEAVY Beer Company - The latest and greatest

We came here for the pinball, so I haven't tried the beer (not a beer fan)…read more The space is pretty cool as I t's in a basement of a large distillery and the bartender was really nice. They had a small but very tasty sounding menu so we will have to come back and try the food. I wish there were more TVs to be able to watch the game.

UPDATE: With the addition of FOUR cool-as-shit pinball machines, HEAVY Beer Company has earned a…read more5th star! (The beer, however, is still a work-in-progress.) Now back to our previous review... I love everything about the HEAVY Beer Company...except the beer. The location:  It's in the basement of Toledo Spirits...walk in the front door, immediately turn left, and go down a short flight of stairs).  There's plenty of parking in the private lot.  Is Heavy Beer Company a completely different business from Bellwether/TS?  I'm pretty sure the same guys own everything in this building.  Can you get food or cocktails from upstairs while you're in the basement drinking beer?  I don't know, and I don't really give a shit.  Can you get Heavy beer while youre upstairs at the Bellwether?  Maybe, maybe not.  Just think of it as a different place. The atmosphere is fantastic.  Very comfortable.  It's upscale and clean, but not sterile.   Food:  The only thing on the menu is the Toledo Hot Beef Sandwich.  What is a Toledo Hot Beef Sandwich?  Don't think Red Wells, think Chicago Italian Hot Beef.  I really liked it.  10 bucks might seem a little expensive, but I felt very satisfied after eating it, knocking off a bag of chips, and draining a pint Volcana (tart melon gose).   The optional au jus adds a nice salty flavor to the meat and roll.  Speaking of meat and bread, the ratio of meat to bun is excellent.  Too much bread spoils an otherwise good sandwich; that's not the case with Heavy's THBS.   Add the pickled veggies to the sandwich to get a little more kick.  It could be, in my opinion, a little spicier. BEER:  I've tried everything they have, and so far, the beer has been very average, even a little disappointing, especially when compared to some of T-Town's other local breweries.  I will say that batch 24 and batch 26 of Heavy's IPA tasted MUCH better than the first few batches that I tried.  Hopefully, the BEER (at Heavy BEER company) will continue to improve; I suspect that it will. We're going with 4 stars for now, but if Toledo Spirits and the Bellwether are any indication as to what these guys can do, we'll probably be adding a 5th star soon enough.

The weather was quite nice Sunday afternoon, so we decided to go and check things out. We ordered a flight of crafted brews: Blimey; Big Fat Boss Baby Mocha; and two Student Body Right and our food choices (limited menu for the soft opening). Because it was so nice out, we decided to occupy one of the tables in the "courtyard" area near the IT5 Food Truck. It did take long and I received a text message indicating our food was ready. We had a Mushroom Swiss Smash Burger w Fries and Chicken Tenders w Cole Slaw. Both food items were very good. The chicken tenders were tender and juicy. The smash burger was done to our liking. Fries were made while we waited. We had been to the Fieldhouse a couple times, but we did not know there was a fire ring set up "in the back 40". Nice touch. Maybe IT5 will utilize some of the additional space out back for more than one food truck? Time will tell...

If it had been there when I was in college we would have been here. Great space inside with an upstairs that seems to get rented out for private parties but no worries because they have an awesome outside patio with cornhole etc outside. Food trucks good selection of beers galore. Along with quick friendly service. I get a wave from most of the bartenders because I been here a time or two. ;). Did I mention they do a lil farmers market thing from 11-3 on Sundays on the patio? I love new places. Eat your heart Earnest Brewery. There's a new sheriff on the south side.
