    Beer menu 7/01/23

I would give this brewery a 4.5 rating. If they had food options they would have a 5. Friendly and knowledgeable. The beers we tried were excellent and they were having trivia tonight.

It's a single sided service approach causes an interaction disconnect that, meanwhile believes in supporting so many things, lacks on customer experience, service and engagement. I'll start with the pros: they have a quick food, quality, menu that supplements their large selection of brews. The only place that has pretty good Meades. The girls here work diligently, they're very approachable, (some) don't know much about the details of the items however they're quick to find them. They're always smiling and even when it's busy, they are very task oriented. That being said, I appreciate the establishment, its aura, and its local support for community and small business. Rosie, and the former police officer, as well as the day shift, and kitchen staff are all great people and seem to enjoy giving service with a smile and are so nice, when you can get to engage with them. Now, the quirks. The menu is on the wall, if you're sitting at the bar, or outside, and your phone is dead, you have to walk up to the bar and then walk the 15 feet wall, around customers to be able to see what's available. It's very cluttered, random and hard to navigate, especially the non-beer options on random sized/font posters. You have to advocate yourself for service, walk up to the bar, because otherwise you might not get attentive service. I waited 15mins between them conversing with other patrons to get a drink. It's very hands-off which, a lot of places are inline with this digital/QR table ordering and walk up service since Covid. However, the feel this place gives: mostly engaging, service with a smile but is inconsistent, giving mixed results on exactly how to take to this place with each person giving a different customer service experience. So, you can see from the photos it's very much walk up service. Which can be difficult for some who have disabilities, sit outside, and other factors and isn't really clear with the layout and expectations it sets with its environment. I've came in several times and have had prompt service at the bar, but on this night, even not busy, was like pulling teeth just to get any follow up/help, silverware and drink refills. I sit at the bar to be able to discuss special needs of food restrictions, etc. but, if it's too busy I probably wouldn't stop in due to having to walk up to the bar to address each need/order and I'm not a fan of table/digital ordering due to food restrictions and menu ordering on digital platforms that are clumsy at times leading to confusion or wrong orders/bill splitting etc. Sometimes food is made well, well portioned, sometimes it seems like they ran out of food and found bits at the bottom of a portion to affix to an order. I've had to ask for plates, napkins and silverware each time I've came here. Should be consistent when bringing food. All and all, I WANT to like this place. It has potential, it supports women forward, small business, local, and service animals. All the things I appreciate and love. They are clean, from the sound of overhearing they have a great membership club (still don't no anything about it), I'll have to wonder away from the bar to read the posters posted around to see if I can get more info. Rosie, who was explaining to to a customer next to me, was very diligent, helpful and engaged with customers very well but, was also stuck to the bar area waiting for people to approach so, its very one sided experience. Being short staffed sucks, it is a today issue. This place really tries, they're strong, female forward and driven. I will continue to try and come back, hopefully this review isn't to harsh, not meant to be, we only know what we know and hopefully this helps shed light in a space others can understand and maybe help. Keep up the hard work and I will keep returning. A similar place is Batch Brewing with the same format that executes this method perfectly. So, it's doable.

The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming from the second you walk in, and the staff made us feel like regulars even though it was our first time there. Great energy, no attitude, just genuine hospitality. The beer lineup is fantastic. There's something for everyone, whether you're into hoppy IPAs, easy drinking lagers, or something more experimental. Everything we tried was well made and full of flavor. The food more than held its own too, fresh, well portioned, and clearly made with care. What really stood out was the service. Attentive without being overbearing, quick to check in, and genuinely friendly the whole time. It's the kind of place that makes you want to come back and bring people with you. Highly recommend Inside the Five if you're looking for great beer, good food, and a staff that actually makes you feel welcome. We'll definitely be back

We decided to go to Inside The Five - Sylvania. It was Sunday night almost 8pm. IT5 closes at 9pm. Our choices for dinner: Cob Salad with honey-lime vinaigrette; and my "sirprise" dinner selection made by our bartender/server was the Pico Deluxe sandwich with a side of hummus and fresh veggies (cucumber, carrots, and celery). As we were eating dinner, the thunder and lightning kicked in and there was a Severe Thunderstorm Warning, then Watch for the area. After our delicious dinner, we made our way out of Indside The Five and it was now raining. Great way to celebrate the competition of our mulch project!

Now back to our previous review... I love everything about the HEAVY Beer Company...except the beer. The location:  It's in the basement of Toledo Spirits...walk in the front door, immediately turn left, and go down a short flight of stairs).  There's plenty of parking in the private lot.  Is Heavy Beer Company a completely different business from Bellwether/TS?  I'm pretty sure the same guys own everything in this building.  Can you get food or cocktails from upstairs while you're in the basement drinking beer?  I don't know, and I don't really give a shit.  Can you get Heavy beer while youre upstairs at the Bellwether?  Maybe, maybe not.  Just think of it as a different place. The atmosphere is fantastic.  Very comfortable.  It's upscale and clean, but not sterile.   Food:  The only thing on the menu is the Toledo Hot Beef Sandwich.  What is a Toledo Hot Beef Sandwich?  Don't think Red Wells, think Chicago Italian Hot Beef.  I really liked it.  10 bucks might seem a little expensive, but I felt very satisfied after eating it, knocking off a bag of chips, and draining a pint Volcana (tart melon gose).   The optional au jus adds a nice salty flavor to the meat and roll.  Speaking of meat and bread, the ratio of meat to bun is excellent.  Too much bread spoils an otherwise good sandwich; that's not the case with Heavy's THBS.   Add the pickled veggies to the sandwich to get a little more kick.  It could be, in my opinion, a little spicier. BEER:  I've tried everything they have, and so far, the beer has been very average, even a little disappointing, especially when compared to some of T-Town's other local breweries.  I will say that batch 24 and batch 26 of Heavy's IPA tasted MUCH better than the first few batches that I tried.  Hopefully, the BEER (at Heavy BEER company) will continue to improve; I suspect that it will. We're going with 4 stars for now, but if Toledo Spirits and the Bellwether are any indication as to what these guys can do, we'll probably be adding a 5th star soon enough.

The weather was quite nice Sunday afternoon, so we decided to go and check things out. We ordered a flight of crafted brews: Blimey; Big Fat Boss Baby Mocha; and two Student Body Right and our food choices (limited menu for the soft opening). Because it was so nice out, we decided to occupy one of the tables in the "courtyard" area near the IT5 Food Truck. It did take long and I received a text message indicating our food was ready. We had a Mushroom Swiss Smash Burger w Fries and Chicken Tenders w Cole Slaw. Both food items were very good. The chicken tenders were tender and juicy. The smash burger was done to our liking. Fries were made while we waited. We had been to the Fieldhouse a couple times, but we did not know there was a fire ring set up "in the back 40". Nice touch. Maybe IT5 will utilize some of the additional space out back for more than one food truck? Time will tell...
