I was a loyal customer until one day I had a conversation with one of the sons of the family who owns and runs the place. Up until that point, things were great. A bit overpriced, but tolerable. We got to talking politics and he asked where I was from. "Here", I said. "Well, Oklahoma, actually by way of St Louis. My family is German and Native American". "No, you aren't" he said. I responded in TsaLaGI (Cherokee) and in Lakota that yes, I was in fact, a living breathing Indian man. "No", he said, "you don't look like it to me". I informed him politely that my war pony was in the shop and that I was on my way to pick up my headdress from the dry cleaners, but that he could be assured I know precisely who my ancestors are and where we come from. At that point, I think I just walked out. What do you say to someone so ignorant and intolerant? read more

extremely rude owners overcharge $0.75 to use atm- and minimum atm puchase must be at least $10 if one complaint about unfair treatment they kick you out and start yelling in arabic just don't go there read more

These guys are ASSHOLES. DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR BUSINESS. I didn't know the CA law about no returning of alcohol. So I attempted to return alcohol. Naturally, the guy behind the counter with the slicked back hair, had to explain that I couldn't do that. And of course, I probably should have known the relevant law! That much is on me. But what I didn't expect was how UNPLEASANT and ANGRY this guy got in response. He looked at me with such contempt! He looked at me like I was a threat, or a moron, or somehow like a guy endangering his business. I want to be clear-- I was 100% sober, I was well dressed, making good eye contact, trying to communicate well-- and this guy basically YELLED at me, he was furious. It was insane how out of proportion his reaction was, to what I did. Not every customer is going to know every law. When a customer doesn't know a law, that doesn't mean they are a bad person or deserve to be spoken to harshly and without any sympathy. It is BASIC CUSTOMER SERVICE to be CORDIAL to the people who are supporting your business. When you ATTACK someone, you are no longer holding up your end of the bargain by creating a space where people feel SAFE to do business. I will not be coming back here, I am literally afraid to return, this guy looked so damn mad at me! read more

Normally I try and avoid 5 & I as their prices tend to be a lot higher than comparable connivence stores. However, tonight in a moment of hunger decided to go and get some chips. I have used my EBT card before and have never had any issues. Tonight thought, the clerk was extremely rude and disrespectful and mad at me when I tried to hand over my EBT card. It was embarrassing as he made a big deal about how he's worked there since 2011 and they have never excepted EBT. Except that is not true, I have used my card there before and 5th and ivy is listed under retailers where you can use your EBT card. The employee was extremely rude and that behavior of service should never be tolerated. read more

5th & Ivy Liquor - you can see that 5&I is in fact listed as a store where EBT is accepted however they told me that was not the case Rather rudely - Beer, Wine & Spirits Near Me - Chico, California

Prime location for me alcoholic needs. All these reviews about the owners being rude are way far off. If you're nice, he'll be nice to you. I greet them every time I come in asking "how's it going!" and they always shoot to have a fun conversation with me. They will kick jokes with you and you just gotta kick em' back, pay your for alcohol and tell them "thank you!". All these people saying bad things are losers. Yes, the price may slightly be higher than usual, but you're lying for the convenience as well in this college town. Walking distance to buy your booze and then go black out? Count me in. Let's run it back the next day too. read more

I went there to use the atm machine I just needed some quarters to do my laundry. I spent an extra $2 to use their machine instead of my bank's. I pulled out a $20 and asked the person behind the desk if they could give me 2 $5s and a $10, and he said he couldn't. I don't know what to do, I don't wanna turn my whole $20 into quarters. I just came to their store and spent money there and they couldn't even help me get change which was what I came there to do, will never come here again! read more

A regular here because of proximity to my place BUT the guys who run the store are great and occasionally very funny. That being said, they won't be nice to you if you're a dick, super drunk or trying to get cash back at the register cause they only do cash back via the ATM. That's completely justified on their behalf too so..be a decent human and everything will be fine, or just go somewhere else that can accommodate your needs lol read more

They were so rude to me!!!! And upset because I didn't have cash. I had open a soda in the store and taken a couple sips of it in line. I didn't think this would be a problem! When I got up to the cashier they said it was a minimum of 2.50$ for card I said that's fine you can just charge me 2.50$ they said no and asked my why I didn't have any cash on me. As a women I don't feel safe walking around at night with cash. So I simply cary a card. They repeatedly told me my generation was terrible for not caring around cash and asked me "what was wrong with me, why would I not carry around cash"? After that the man working the cashier whispered under his breath "something generation" and the two of them laughed, when I ask what did u say about me they both shut up! I've never had anyone talk so disrespectfully to me in my life. I shared this experience with others and they expressed they had similar experience at this place. Please don't go here they are over priced and out right rude if anything causes them the slightest inconvenience read more

I would give zero stars if it was an option, I walked here with my husband and daughter as it was the closest liquor store to her house. I am 50 and my husband is 56. My daughter is 20. After we spent about 5 minutes deciding which bottle of chardonnay to buy, the guy asked (rudely, I might add) for my daughter's ID. We told him she was 20, and that we were her parents. He abruptly set the wine aside and told us to leave. We said it was for us, not her, but he said we had to wait at least a day before we could come back. To add insult to injury, I realized (when we went to Safeway and successfully bought a bottle of wine) that he was trying to charge us $23 for a bottle that cost $10 at Safeway....His loss, but I encouraged my daughter to "vote with her dollars" and not patronize this store, even after she turns 21. I hope she will spread the word. I get it if they are trying to avoid selling booze to young people who are then giving/selling it to minors, but I AM 50! And he was unnecessarily rude about it. How hard would it have been to ask her age when we walked in? read more

Shady. Overcharged me $15 because they thought I was drunk. Don't support this shady business

If possible, I wouldn't even give this place a 1 star! HORRIBLE service. VERY VERY VERY rude people. I will NEVER, I repeat, NEVER go here again! He was a total racist and sexist! He wouldn't sell me alcohol because I wasn't with my boyfriend! This is 2012 for christ's sake! read more
