Dear Customer Relations Team, I am writing to formally report a very disappointing experience my parents and I had at one of your BevMo! store locations today. My father was attempting to purchase a bottle for an upcoming wedding. Although I was not purchasing any alcohol or making a transaction, the cashier insisted that every person in our group present identification. I explained that I am 32 years old and was simply accompanying my parents, who are both in their 60s and were the only individuals making a purchase. The situation escalated when the manager stated that it was store policy to ID everyone present and ultimately refused service when I stepped outside the store. As a result, my parents were unable to complete their purchase. We fully respect and support responsible alcohol sales and compliance with ID laws. However, denying service to a legal purchaser because other adults are present -- even when those adults are not involved in the transaction -- felt excessive, unnecessary, and poorly handled. The interaction left us feeling embarrassed, singled out, and unwelcome. This experience also raises an important question: if a minor enters the store with their parents, would the parents be denied service as well? If this is indeed the policy, it would be helpful for customers to see it clearly posted and explained before reaching the register. We are long-time customers and did not expect to be turned away in this manner. I hope this feedback will prompt a review of how this policy is enforced and communicated so future customers do not have a similar experience. I would appreciate a response regarding this matter. Warning! If you want to buy anything in this store, go in alone!! If ANYONE in your group, even if they are just tagging along and not buying anything, (even if you are all clearly gray-haired and balding senior citizens in your 60's) cannot provide a current ID, you will not be allowed to make your purchase. I completely support a reasonable carding policy but the policy for this business is so excessive and lacks reason it is beyond ridiculous. It was an embarrassing experience and because of this we will not be returning. Note: to the customer service rep who wants to suggest that we reach out to your company to discuss this further, don't bother. I came into this store specifically to buy seltzer water. It's a seltzer water with juice. Not a drop of alcohol-- I actually don't drink. Get to the register to ring up and am told to buy anything, even a candy bar, I have to show proof of being 21. I am 40 buying a seltzer water. My advice is to advertise this so people don't waste time coming in here. I was alone and the gal who was in there said "it doesn't matter-- it's store policy-- anything you buy.. paper plates, soda, candy, toothpicks all have to have ID. Wild. I hope they go under. TL;DR: DO NOT EVEN LET THEM SEE YOU WITH ANOTHER PERSON, EVEN OUTSIDE THE STORE, IF THEY DO NOT HAVE THEIR ID ON THEM. If you don't have yours, send in the other and go in a frickin' ninja mission. I am SHOCKED at how strict they are with their ID policy. I've never experienced such a strict policy before. I came in from going on a walk earlier, so didn't have my ID with me. The person at the counter told me they couldn't sell to me without it and mentioned that they have to scan it to allow the transaction to go through. So I went out to go grab my husband because he had his on him. I am clearly over 21 being 32 years old. Typically (and by typically I mean every other time except for this one), this is satisfactory, especially when we're trying to buy a couple bottles of wine. There's never a suspicion that one of us os trying to buy alcohol for the other because one is underage. They go far above and beyond the legal requirements to such a ridiculous extent here. One of the employees literally cited a recent experience where they had to deny someone who was born in *1935* because he didn't have his ID on him. The bars in Chico aren't even that strict and they are notorious for how strict they are. 2 stars instead of one because I don't blame the employees at all, I'm just frustrated at the policy overall. One of the employees even asked if they could help me find anything. I really want to emphasize that it's not their fault, and I fully support them not being willing to sacrifice their jobs for some inconsequential person to buy some alcohol. That being said, I don't think I'll be back or I will at least avoid. My story isn't nearly as severe as the other reviews, which I 100% believe. read more

Have had other issues in the past, and so have my friends. But this is just about saying that a 12 pack of their beer was $20 and at Winco was only $15. They do not price match and they do not do military discount. I figured that would be my one stop shop for all my alcohol for the huge party that I'm throwing. Went to buy 2 bottles of non-alcoholic mixers. Asked to show ID, advised clerk it was non-alcoholic. Clerk stated all purchases even non-alcoholic require valid ID. Totally absurd policy. Been a member for 20 years, now is the time do business elsewhere! read more

I think it's hilarious when people go to a store and are surprised when asked to show their ID cards when they are buying LIQUOR or even if they are buying non-alcoholic items from a LIQUOR store! They literally have a sign posted outside of the window stating that you need to be 21 to even enter the store (children are an exception). For the people who are always complaining about how inconvenient it is to have to reach into their wallets to pull out their ID's or they don't have their ID's with them, you are an idiot. Not only is it YOUR responsibility to make sure you have your ID with you when you are buying alcohol but also having your ID checked is required by LAW and is part of their JOB and you're not that important for someone to lose their job over. Get over yourself. P.S- Many employees have to wear a face mask for at least 4-8+ hours a day just to protect themselves and others so please spare them with all your barking and put a mask on for the 10 minutes you have to be in the store for. Just like you have a "right" to not wear a mask, you also have the "right" to shop for your booze somewhere else. read more

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! I brought my 13 year old into the store with me and after shopping around for an hour and filling my cart we went up to pay and we're denied service because she was not 21. During our trip we had multiple interactions with the staff and had to ask them where some items were and they never once mentioned to me that I could not make a purchase with my daughter. I was told to "leave her in the car next time" ! COMPLETELY ridiculous not to mention illegal. Horrible experience and terribly rude customer service representatives. Will never be back. read more

I picked up a beer to look at it but all we tried to buy was soda and was told we couldn't buy soda because my husband didn't have his ID (because his wallet was stolen recently) but he did have an old ID and the paper one issued by DMV but the manager had attitude and still wouldn't let us purchase SODA because a beer was touched in the store. I bought a bottle of Proper 12 Apple Irish whiskey back in the summer for $20+. I went back and purchased another last week. When my credit card bill came, I was charged $60+. in a single visit, I experienced one of the employees being extremely rude to an elderly customer on top of the fact a mother with her probably 10 to 12 year old kid walked in, was helped in finding what she was looking for and then when she goes to pay for it then they inform her that she's not allowed to buy anything unless her and her son both present ID to show that they're over 21 which is one thing for that to be a rule. However, she needed to be informed that the second she walked through the door not waste 20 minutes just to tell her that because the kids there she can't buy anything. and none of the employees are on the same page about anything that's why they clearly have lost three customers in a single span of 30 minutes between the elderly man, the mother, and now myself because I am personally disgusted. Other reviews seem spot on. Went in for som beer because this was the closest store selling to my location. Employees ignored me twice when asking for help. The cashier was extremely rude and condescending, even openly mocking me after checkout to other customers. I am sorry that I'm from out of state and don't understand how things work here..or that you don't have bags..I really will just go somewhere else with a better beer selection and greater customer service next time. The cashiers appear stoic and don't really seem interested in working. I had trouble using a gift card there. First the card reader wasn't working. The cashier grinned while I swiped it for the 7th time. I asked if she could help. She called her manager. She couldn't do much neither. There was a $75 balance. Suddenly there was a $0.00 balance. Staff went out of their way to refund me a deposit for a pony keg. I left one (didn't have receipt) while purchasing a new barrel for this weekend, I was able to come back with the old receipt today and they refunded me for it after checking the video tape from Friday. So I just went to get a beverage, there was 2 people in front of me. And 1 couple came after me. They all got served first because I didn't have an "on-line" order. The person that "pulled" my beverage was really RUDE to me and said that today she would get my drink but they won't do it anymore until the end of May. Because they could lose their jobs. I understand we are living in crazy times right now with this whole pandemic BUT the lady they have helping people was really rude and I won't go back there for a while. My wife got inline then the clerk said his register was closed so she had to go to another line and a few seconds later, he served a white customer. When my wife already paid for her mix cocktail, he then refused to give it to her because I was there and he also needs to card me. Keep in mind, I'm in my mid 30s and so is my wife and she only bought a mixer for a party. I got my refund and will not be doing business here again. I told manager what was going on, and he totally just neglected my concerns. If you look at other posts, many other people will complain that this place is racist and unprofessional. read more

I had a very unpleasant experience scheduling a tasting for a wedding. The manager was condescending, unhelpful, and unwilling to schedule a tasting after 5pm. To make matters worse, he frequently failed to call me back when he said he would. It's not a bad place to buy alcohol. It is a bad place if you ever have to talk to someone in charge. My Wife is Taylor M. On the review list. I sent her to the store with her 15 year old sister to buy a case of beer while I spent time with my family. She was denied purchase for the case of beer for ME and was told that her younger sister had "intent" to drink it. Last time I checked, I can purchase a beverage if I was of age and it's my responsibility to not share it with underage people ESPECIALLY FAMILY. This is the most biased/bulls*** I've ever experienced. I promise you, I will never spend another $1 at BevMo again. Addison, the "manager" at the store is the joke responsible for this inconvenience and unlawful refusal of service. It stated out a pleasant and fast visit. I went into the store with my son to buy a gift for my boss. I asked for some help and told the lady I had a $100ish budget. She referred me to a 2012 Duckhorn Red that was marked down to $95. I took her advice and bought the wine along with a Christmas wine package. Didn't think anything of it till I got home and looked at my receipt to give them a survey the cashier asked me for. I was charged $119.99 for the bottle instead of the priced marked $95. So I called and the lady/manager on the phone said "oh yah, that's because u don't have a BevMo Card" I almost asked what's that... when I said "I told the lady who helped me it was my 1st time in, the price was clearly marked $95. Nothing anywhere about a card I needed" they got my business once..... they will NEVER get it again! read more

Purchased several " pocket shots" for a group vacation. On the trip, I took them out of the BevMo bag to find most of them sealed, but empty. They had been stored in my air conditioned home. I took many of the disintegrated bags with receipt and talked to the manager, Dani. She rudely snapped that they were purchased over 7 days ago. She "apologized " in a snarky -sorry, not sorry way. I understand the policy, however they should have a guarantee on their products/packaging. Maybe offer store credit at least! Plus .... 7 days? I live 40 minutes away, and don't frequent BevMo. I just had the absolute worst customer service experience ever. Glenda M. was condescending, rude, uninformative and snappy. I was unaware of how one of their deals worked. Instead of explaining the deal, she got short and snippy with me. You have two jobs, ring up the customer, and be a tolerable human being. I moved up to Chico from the Bay Area earlier this year and have been coming here for the majority of my alcohol purchases. The staff (especially management) has always treated me respectfully and answered all of my questions. I couldn't find a beer that I really wanted to try that a friend had recommended to me. It was a seasonal sour, which by definition is hard to come by. The staff were willing to take my information down, look up a distributor, see if they could get a hold of the beer and then they called me a day or two later to leave me a voicemail saying unfortunately that they could not. If you enjoy going to a store who's employees don't know a single product, ignore you when you first walk in, argue with you about what you purchased there a month ago, and then saying they never sold such a product(me finding said product) then going to the cashier(same employee) to purchase everything you located on your own, look no further.... Said cashier then would not sell me anything including the non alcoholic Lagunitas my pregnant wife likes because she was embarrassed/annoyed, she required my pregnant wife to have a her ID.
