Since it is a revolving sushi counter, space clears up quickly and there is lots of spots to sit. The sushi is reasonably priced, the selection is solid, and they even carry Uni at $5 a piece, a price that doesn't make you do a double take for sea urchin! It's much better than HMART Uni fr. In a city where sushi can get expensive fast, Hana keeps things affordable - which I truly appreciate, especially being in downtown. Perfect for a casual lunch, quick dinner, or when you're craving sushi without the special-occasion price tag.

I went a third time when I was in Portland recently and made it a point to stop by for lunch. I always get the Chef's Choice Nigiri for $29 (7 pieces with a miso soup). The quality of the fish is absolutely superb, especially for this price. I always end up ordering something else like a handroll to be fully satisfied.

Nothing to complain here, we'll definitely be back.

If we ever come back we would probably focus on more simple combinations, but that is a personal preference! Sometimes less is more. We also tried the citrus salmon crispy rice and it didn't really hit the way you would hope. I would skip that recommendation next time and find a different appetizer. Other than that, the service was a bit slow although everyone was friendly. We sat outside but the dining area inside was typical for a sushi restaurant.

But I've had sushi in San Francisco, Monterey, Sacramento, Los Angeles, San Diego, Portland, Las Vegas, all sorts of places. THIS was the sashimi to end sashimi. I also had a sunshine roll, which was great. I could taste literally every single ingredient of the roll in every single bite, through every second of chewing. The baked green mussels were delicious as well. The Kodama was pretty good, a little sweet, but still good. Service was quick, staff was very friendly and helpful, it was very quiet, clean, and the vibe was very relaxed. If I'm back in Portland again, this is one of the first places I'm coming back to. 5/5, if there was a gold star 5/5 I would give it to Kaizen.

The fish actually was very good, and so were the salads. A shrimp nigiri was the only misstep, as the shrimp was overcooked. I guess I would return to this place -- hopefully on that server's day off! And make sure my order is not coming on a little boat. And skip the shrimp.
