UNTRUSTWORTHY Dropped off my car for slipping transmission at a low speed, they said they'd identify the problem in 2 days and it would be $100. 7 days later I have to call them and ask what's happening. I got called back later and was told they ran a test, confirmed that the car was slipping, and what the machine said, the diagnostic (which takes 5-10 minutes max) was $140 and the best option was a $6200 new transmission. I came over the next day and asked about a rebuild. Ryan at the front desk told me nobody does rebuilds anymore so the only real option is a new transmission. Immediately took my car out and will never bring it back in. Called J & J Transmission, they do free diagnostics, and got an estimate for a rebuild around 3700. EDIT: Owner contacted me after posting this, refunded me, apologized and was very respectful and reasonable. I believe the misquoted price to begin with was a genuine mistake, but I still would not recommend going here unless you know cars well enough to recognize mistakes or incomplete information about your options. read more

Had inspections and a new condenser put in from this place. They are really good an honest. Right now I have a Prius getting looked at since Firestone wanted to do $5000 worth of work on it, after I had ANOTHER Firestone look at it and only state it needed new brake pads before I made the private purchase on the car. One notable thing, they will call you after looking over your car to get an okay on what needs to be fixed, so you don't have any surprises on the price or what is needing new parts. read more

My AC was out and I wasn't sure what the problem was. I swung by and the mechanic took one look with a flashlight and said the Yukons always have a leak in the condenser after 50-80 thousand miles. They didn't change me anything and I did the work myself but just having a definite answer on what the problem was saved me about $800 in labor. It was an easy swap and it really meant a lot to me that they would help me even though they may not have made any money. read more

As a consumer here in Longview,I like to do my business locally. However, I have been to 501 Automotive for several different automotive repairs on my daughter's Volvo. (Not many places work on Volvos in Longview!) Each time that it's repaired, we have to come back two weeks later to have something further repaired or done to the vehicle because it's not done properly the first time. (They say its because it's old-My Ford Escape is the same age but when it's repaired...there's not the same problem next week. ) My daughter is in college and lives in Houston and it's very difficult to get it back here. Additionally, 501 Automotive does not contact you to let you know any progress that's being made on your vehicle!!!... so, she not only has to come in to town to get the repair done, but then she has to wait over the weekend before we even hear what the repair might entail. We haven't found a place in Houston because again, I wanted to shop locally. Unfortunately, I don't feel that I can do that now. The guys there are very respectful but need improvements with communication and time management. Sorry, can't shop at 501 anymore. read more

501 is an excellent auto repair shop. The work is done right the first time and their prices are fair (yet still less than the dealer). Great service, comfortable, cool waiting room with a flat screen TV and satellite to watch, and friendly, knowledgeable employees. Will definitely be doing business again. I went here a while back for an oil change. Buyer beware, it was about $90. I got the whole "oh we use the premium oil, parts, etc." which I may have even been able to live with if they didn't also strip the cap. They did not even do so much as apologize. read more

501 Automotive is nothing more than a glorified backyard mechanic's garage. After the lack of quality work and customer service I received, I felt it necessary​ to create an account on here to warn others of the scam that this place is. Long story short I dropped off an F150 with fuel pump and transmission issues. I was told that my vehicle would be done in about a month​ and that the technicians would have my truck road ready. Now at TWO months waiting time I was finally​ told that the truck is ready. I had a good45-minute​e argument over the price of what the owner (Elijah) wanted me to pay. Though I was able to talk him down, the $2700 I paid in good faith of a strong running pick up was in vain. The vehicle wouldn't even make it to my house and I live 15 min away! While stranded on the side of the road I called the owner and he showed no remorse or really any care to help out other than the fact that I should bring it back to his shop! HAH! What a joke this guy is, he hides behind fired employees for the keeping my truck twice as long. And ultimately​ when you look at my invoice they did not even touch the transmission which was PROBLEM NUMBER ONE! I hope this review helps others out as I highly recommend​ taking your vehicle elsewhere. With nearly $3000 invested in​ this truc,​k it's basically a giant paperweight​ in my driveway. Just had an oil change done there on my '96 Honda Accord. Wait was about an hour to completion since one person was in line ahead of me. They used a genuine Honda filter too, not some cheap thing. Service desk guy was very friendly and personable. I'll definitely be going back for regular oil changes since it was only $30 and they use genuine Honda filters. read more
