this company has very poor and unprofessional communications. Spoke with a gentleman on 01/05/2026 inquiring about replacing a toilet and installing a gas line for a gas stove. Was told he would call me or text appointment on 01/06/2026. NO call or text. The company's web site chat feature does NOT work. Tried to kook an appointment online could only get the next day. send text message/email. Got a phone call from the company, then I was told they DO NOT install the gas line. Wasted my time. I would recommend anyone that does not communicate openly from the start. Poor communication poor quality work! read more

Contacted 5 Star week of Nov10, 2025 for low water pressure in kitchen faucet and sprayer. They sent Chris Bain plumber, and he shut down water and told me I had to have whole new faucet. Moen equipment under lifetime warranty so I ordered replacements 5Star was to return when Moen shipped, I asked Chris cost he said $250-$350, I SAID OK. In replacement Moen rep asked why my plumber advised whole faucet not just the cartridges and diverter valve, I had no answer, she said she would ship as requested. On 11/12 I had surgery for total knee replacement very difficult to be without water in my kitchen. On 11/18 Chris Bain returned spent 3 hours removing a faucet, 2 handles + sprayer. He replaced with new Moen atop sink but used existing old parts from under sink. When he was leaving, he had packed up the large box from Moen with old & many new parts including water lines, I asked him to leave them as I keep all related products to any home repair especially new and extra, he just said, "no, I am taking these". The final bill went to $550 without him advising me before and he removed several hundred dollars in Moen old and new. I let it go just thinking I post surgery and need no stress. As I began to use the sink the faucet is wobbling and not screwed down as well as the sprayer is continually leaking under the sink. Called 5 star and asked someone be sent to repair and asked also, "have Cris Bain return the parts he took with him. The office manager (owners wife) immediately said "hold on, none of my techs would steal anything from your home and it crazy for you to say". I calmy asked she send repair and the parts. Chris Bain arrived today 12/11 pounding on my front door aggressively pushed in with his camera on and loudly announced "you and I are going to have a conversation, you accused me of stealing" and raged on walking aggressively toward me (75 years old, new knee replacement) and continued to accuse me of lying about telling him to take parts. He said I heard the faucet break and new it was unsalvageable, I did not. I told him to drop it and he continued to tell me "oh no, you are going to resolve this with me. Chris is about 6'2'' and 200 lbs. I asked that he just repair the poorly installed leaking faucet and sprayer and leave ASAP, again persists that I will listen to him because I am wrong. I have no reason to lie about this man or accuse him falsely, stress is dangerous to all and I am trying to minimize that to heal. He continued to escalate until I turned on my phone but had to proceed move to my bathroom because he was getting scary. He refused to repair sink, went to his vehicle at which time I locked the front door and called the Ann Arbor police. I will pursue this thru all channels as I am now out $550.00, a terrible installation leaking under my sink and 5 Star fully support Chris Bain's abuse of me and declines to return to my home even after police requested they bring back equipment taken. He took all that time to remove a simple faucet in order to resell, 5 Star has a parts department, and this is how they roll. read more

The customer service in this shop is outstanding. Never in all my days did I have the shop owner(?) sent me home with the materials for the job AND the tools to do it. Mark took his time to explain how I would do the two jobs, and gave me alternatives - I need to run a new water line to the fridge, either thru the floor to a water pipe in the basement or to the sink. He sent me home with all the pieces I would need for either way I decided to go. I also have a leaking basement toilet that is old style (tank and bowl are separate) and needs a new elbow and tapered thingy (spud?). Yea Mark told me the names of these parts but my brain forgets anything that isn't beneficial on a day to day basis. So he also sent me home with the tube cutter and special wrench necessary to install this part. Mark wrote it all up on a receipt and obviously took down my information so I can return in a week after the jobs are completed and pay for what I used and give back the parts and tools I didn't use. Discovered these guys on a Saturday past 12:00 when everyone else is closed, so I was simply lucky to go there the first time, where they instantly recognized the cartridge I needed, allowing me to turn the water back on in my house that day. From the first experience, I decided to return to get the parts needed for a sink project. In about five minutes based on my simple drawing, the guy working the counter had a solution engineered for me and ready to go with a complete, logical explanation of where all the bits and pieces go. I've never gotten that type of service at the big boxes. They know I'm not a pro, and I know I'm not a pro, but they don't treat me like some foreign object off the street, and I really appreciate that. This is definitely my go-to plumbing store from now on. read more

There was water leaking under my kitchen sink. Searched on Yelp, Google, NextDoor, etc. S & W Plumbing could send someone out in an hour or so, which was great, as others I called were either booked for days or never returned my call. Tom? (not sure, don't remember his name and no name on receipt) arrived promptly, was friendly and courteous, diagnosed the problem (needed a new jam nut and washer on my garbage disposal --apparently the two year old original had been over-tightened). He replaced those items, and everything was finished in about twenty minutes. The two star review is because of unfair business practices and over-charging customers. When I called, I did ask about their hourly rate and was told that they don't charge by the hour. Cost depends on what we have to do. However, he neglected to tell me that they do have a minimum charge of $125. That seems outrageous for a simple job that took 15 min to complete. And I should have been informed up front when I asked about their charges. I don't like dishonest business owners who deliberately take advantage of customers. read more
