Wonderful mani/pedi every time! The staff is great! Recently updated - clean and fresh! I've been going here for years!

I had two service today, a manicure with girl I don't know and a pedicure with Anthony Tran. Anthony did a great job on my feet and nails, and I give him 5 stars. However, the girl who did my manicure gets a 1. I made it clear that my nails grow very slowly and break easily. I wanted barely any filing yet she filed them until they were nearly to the quick on three different fingers. They now hurt and it's near impossible to pick things up. I would be very careful when having your nails done and be sure the technician understands English. Clearly she had no idea what I had told. So disappointed and I actually could have done better myself at home. I will add another layer of coating tonight and hope this lasts for our 18 day trip. read more

Friendly staff and prompt service. I got a gel pedicure, my husband got a manicure. Unlike other pedicures I have gotten at other salons, where I have felt like they are quickly going through the paces to get to the next customer, at 5 Star Nails, they really took their time, making sure my nails were even and that both feet matched. I had a manicure and pedicure done by Ruby today. I've always had good experiences at this nail salon and today was no exception - the only reason I'm writing this review is that I can't STAND to be called "Honey". Obviously, there are worse things they could call me, but while I think THEY think their clients like this, I don't know of anyone who likes to be called "Honey" (except maybe a 3 year old) - its derogatory and childish. I KNOW they mean it to be sweet and kind, but it rubs me the wrong way. Sorry for the rant, just had to add my two cents. read more

The day before my wedding came so quick and I looked at my eyebrows and realized I needed a wax real bad. Wilmington isn't my hometown so I was hesitant to just go anywhere. I am from DC where there are tons of good eyebrow places run by Vietnamese and I wanted a legit job. I am so happy I chose Five Star Nails. I came in and Samantha helped me out. The place was not too full during mid-day so I was quickly led to the back where I lay down and Samantha got to work. She did a super quick job on them and plucked the few she missed when I asked without so much as a word. 10 dollars later I was out the door. This place is good. The owners are usually around and are motivated to meet their customers needs, I came in at 6 for a manicure and wanted a pedicure but was worried about the closing time. The quality and the experience has declined since they changed ownership. The last three gel manicures and pedicures have chipped within days or did not look good. On Wednesday morning I have a Gel Manicure done, by Holly. On Thursday my Gel started to lift of the nail And peeled right off. I called first thing on Friday morning to see if I can get this fixed. Woman answered the phone told me to come in around 5 and Holly will fix. When I arrived the shop was full with customers very busy. When I arrived a gentleman told me to go see Holly while she was doing a pedicure. Not professional at all. Holly said she can't do it now come back 2 hours. I said I called and spoke to someone, you come back in 2 hours and I will fix. No I will not come back in 2 hours!! And will not be back. Now that the country is open for business and recovering from a Pandemic this is the way 5 Star conducts business. read more

I've been coming here for 10 years and it is my favorite nail/pedicure/manicure salon. They also do great eyebrow waxing. Everyone is very professional. Many of the people have been working here for over a decade (they opened in 2008). Now I take my five year old daughter here and they do a great job painting her nails for Easter or other holidays. She loves the spa chairs and watches cartoons while I get a 5 star treatment! read more

Came here Friday with a friend. The chair didn't work great - only a couple of settings worked. The nail technician kept pushing the more expensive pedicure even after repeating that I just wanted the basic - trying to make me feel bad for saying no to something that's "just $5 more." When my friend chose the 5-star pedicure, I did end up finally agreeing to go with the technician's annoying up sell just so I wouldn't be done 15 minutes sooner. Well, even at $26 the basic would've been overpriced. Paying $31 for the 5-star pedicure was way too much. It's a very average pedicure. I've done the same quality at home, except my polish wouldn't already be coming off at the end had I done it myself. Will not return on my next trip to Wilmington. read more

I called and asks the price for a pedicure and was told $19.99 so I made an appt.. After putting my feet in the bath I was given the price sheet which listed a basic pedicure at $26. So, I was basically lied to on the phone to get me in there. Also - beware - I used a credit card that I use infrequently and a few days later was contacted by MasterCard that I had suspicious charges on my card - someone was using my card at an amusement park in Canada!! 5 Star Salon was the last place I used the card...Can't prove anything, but am pretty certain that is where my card number was lifted from. I love this place and wouldn't consider going anywhere else. I have been going here for over 3 years and have always left a happy customer. They always do a nice job especially Mylee who is the owner. She always has a smile and a greeting for all her customers and the staff is very friendly. The place is always clean. If I ever had a problem with a nail I returned and explained and she would fix it for me. I think that is great service. As a thank you to her customers you get to pick out a charm from the large selection she has at the check out desk for your Pandora type bracelets. I've been here twice now & some family members have been a few times as well. The store is nice & they offer water bottles & discounts etc which makes the overall appeal of the place nice. The same can't be said for their customer service. The first time i went with two other people between the three of us it took four hours to be completed. All i had done was a shellac & they had a pedicure, one had shellac & one fill. We had many other complaints that are too long to list even with having the owner working on one of us & let's just say we won't be going back. read more

Clean, reasonably priced and attentive staff. I got a pedicure here while visiting Wrightsville and as a pregnant mama, was looking forward to having someone else paint my toes since I can no longer reach them. I noticed the nail polish wasn't going on very smoothly (perhaps an older bottle) and sure enough, less than a week later only two toes have color left. I could have saved myself $30 and just had a friend paint them for that kind of quality. read more

I went in for a pedi today. First of all, they are very clean, they use an autoclave machine to clean all the instruments and they put a plastic lining in the tub area where your feet soak in. This is the only way nail places should be, unfortunately a lot don't do this. I had the pleasure of having Nancy do my pedi and it was by far the BEST pedi I've ever had, and I've been to a lot of places before. So, when you go in for a mani/pedi, ask for Nancy, it will be the most relaxing pedi you've ever had. This girl has some powerful hands when giving your message on feet/legs. AMAZING! read more

This is the WORST nail salon EVER! My daughter and I went in for acrylic nails. To begin, they are VERY pushy about getting UV nails done. Both of us requested round nails. Apparently round nails are more work than they want to do because we were both told that rounded nails wouldn't work for us and that we needed square nails. My guy cut my nails with old scissors. They were uneven, misshapen, thick, and truly hideous. One nail was very clearly pointed upward because the tech didn't even bother to glue it down correctly. He didn't push back my cuticles, which might be why they were covered in acrylic by the time he was done. My daughter's tech cut her nails so short that they were unable to be shaped properly. Within two hours of having them put on, she had them removed. The cheap top coat that my tech used turned yellow within 24 hours. I was told it would take 10 minutes for my nails to dry. He sent me on my way before they were dry and subsequently my paint was damaged before I even left the parking lot. There was a lady next to us getting her nails done and we watched her tech knock one of the tips off 3 times before she actually applied the acrylic. What we witnessed was three nail techs who didn't know how to do nails and were too lazy to give the customer what they wanted. I can normally tolerate having my nail tech speak to other techs in a foreign language. This time there was NO effort made to interact with either of us. As a customer it is very frustrating to have your tech say things you cannot understand the whole time that they are seriously messing up their work. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE! I wish I had looked on here before we ever walked in the place. Worst experience ever. read more

I just got my eyebrows waxed here today. I left the salon in tears. I specifically said when she asked how I want them "not thin or short, I am trying to grow them fuller. I just want the strays cleaned up." Well when I was handed the mirror I saw two PENCIL thin eye brows. She took off at least half if not more of the width of my eyebrow. Not only that but the left one is so thin you cant even see the ends so it looks like its only about a 1/4 inch long. I was very upset because not only do my eyebrows look horrible, but I am getting married in one month and when I said how upset I was she tried to argue me and said they will grow back. Well yes I am aware eyebrows grow, but they will not look like normal eyebrows in a month. You can not go from this thin to normal looking in a month. Hopefully they even do grow back. She argued with me for at least 10 minutes when I was obviously upset, but trying to be polite and not insult her. I have never been treated worse or received worse customer service in my life. And on top of that my eyebrows look disgusting and I will have to pencil them in every day for a very very long time. DO NOT GO HERE! read more
