Rina understood the assignment! After a series of experiences at a variety of salons across northern NJ that left me with an unsatisfying or "mid" cut at best, Rina knocked it out of the park. I have very thick hair, and came in feeling out of options as to how to create and keep a style that felt both manageable and beautiful. Very grateful for stylists that understand hair and proportions to the extent of it being an art form. Trust Rina with your hair. That is all. I found a hidden gem! This is a full service salon! I was treated like royalty! From the moment I walked in I felt special. I had a very thorough consultation with Amina before anyone touched my hair. I started off with a Steam Treatment consisting of a detox mask, hydrating mask, scalp scrub/massage, and shampoo & conditioner. This was amazing. I have never experienced anything like this before. I was offered coffee, tea, and other items. I just had a coffee - even that was over the top served with frothed milk. Amina not only told me what I was doing wrong with my hair but she showed me how to improve it! She guided me through the entire process. She was honest and knowledgeable! I made a phone call to ask a question as details weren't listed specifically on the website, the receptionist who answered was rude and unprofessional. They answered anything I asked in a condescending tone as if i should've known the answer to my questions, and what the service consisted of. For any newcomers don't let the receptionist ruin your experience coming to this salon. I personally had an amazing experience with my STYLIST. Today i tried the steam treatment and it was DIVINE! It started with a peppermint hair scrub that was cooling and reinvigorated my scalp. Followed by a clarifying hair treatment to remove the build up of hair products over the past few weeks. The steam was wafting through my hair throughout the entire process leaving my hair soft, hydrated, and luscious. The treatment ended with a hydrating treatment and scalp massage. First yelp review ever. The 1 star is simply because I got the haircut I asked for but I do not recommend this salon and I will not be returning. I called to make an appt and explained that I was not interested in a curly haircut because although my hair is naturally curly, I wear my hair exclusively straight. I explained that I would show up with straight hair and that I wanted my hair cut straight if it was going to be an issue or if it was going to considered a curly haircut. Sounds insane but I was really just interested in them correcting a very bad haircut I got a few days prior. I was told I would pay $75 for the haircut which included a blowout and that 50% deposit was required at time of booking which was fine. Before paying the deposit I reconfirmed that I did not want the service if I was going to be charged $150 for having curly hair. The receptionist then said if my hair curled at all during the appointment I would be charged $150 to which I objected. She then changed my stylist and time of appt which I took to mean she understood my position. She still priced me at $75. She took my deposit and booked my appointment. I showed up with straight hair as discussed and the receptionist didn't mention anything about there being a different price than what was discussed. I even told the stylist I wanted my hair cut while it was straight but she insisted on washing my hair to play with my hair's natural texture which wasn't necessary. Receptionist should've just told me there was zero way around the double charge and I would have thanked her for her time and not booked. She really should have never taken my deposit or booked me since my position never changed and it seems hers didn't either. Instead I paid DOUBLE the price for a standard layered haircut and a TERRIBLE blowout that didn't last the drive home. I had to redo it because my roots were fluffy and my hair was puffy. I asked for volume but volume doesn't mean puffy or undone roots. I understand charging more for a "curly hair cut" because that requires different technique and a ton of leave in products but to charge DOUBLE for a standard haircut simply because of hair texture borders on discriminatory. $75 is a fine price for a specialized layered haircut but $150 is insane. I should've been more vocal but I have social anxiety so I just accepted defeat and cried my entire 55mins home. read more

This is going to be a long review--buckle up! (I am not the type to feel the R card, but this place had my spidey tingle of "R-ism" all over it.) This is the first time in my life that I felt it at a hair salon, and irony; it is in Fort Lee, where I have lived for years, as this is a multicultural neighborhood. I was looking forward to my visit to a local hair Salon. I have been going to the salons in Manhattan forever, but I decided to stay local and support the local business. I came across the FB page of a colorist who works at this Salon. Her work looks amazing and clean, so I made an appointment. The morning of the appointment, I called and asked if I could have a wash and go after the color consultation as I am still recovering from my surgery and have not been able to wash my hair on my own. The receptionist confirmed they were able to make the accommodation. I have been bleaching and coloring since I was 12, and now I am 43 years old. I am very well aware it is not easy for Asian hair to go blonde, Note: 3/4 of my hair is already blonde. The colorist seems very knowledgeable (There has been no fee discussion yet.) At the end of the consultation as she was walking me out. I informed her I had a wash-and-go appointment. She seemed confused and said they were very busy (1/2 the salon had empty chairs, only 3 active clients) and I had a spidey sense she wanted to rush me off. I told her I was sure it was a misunderstanding and could easily be cleared with the receptionist. I went downstairs to the receptionist to ensure she had reserved my wash-and-go appointment, and she confirmed again. So, she suggested that I make an appointment for the color process first before returning upstair for my hair wash appointment. I was informed the total all-in to color corrected is $1,050 (yes, you read it right - 7 hours/$150 per hour), and with a 20% Tip - I am looking at a $1,300 total all-in. I am very happy for the stylist; she can charge her client this amount for her creativity and skill set. Unfortunately, I would need to sleep on it. Normally I pay $500-$600 (excluding tips) in manhattan for a 6 hours hair correction. The receptionist understood that I would need time to think about it. She and I walked up to the stairs for my wash and go. When we reached the 3rd floor, the receptionist told the lady I had an appointment to wash my hair. Very quickly, the lady whose job was to wash the client's hair and assist the stylist pulled the receptionist's arm and whispered to the receptionist on and on. it was getting awkward, as I didn't need to BEG someone to wash my hair. I don't know what they are talking about nor want to be eavesdropped on, but her body language and facial expressions suggest she doesn't want to take me as a client. They simply wanted me to leave; I told the receptionist, "It's okay, I don't need it anymore." I walked down the stairs and thanked her for her help. Conclusion: Receptionist: lovely people, very informative and curious, and professional. Colorist: She's no doubt very good at her job, but a part of me wonders if the price she quoted me is so that I would say no and she won't have to take me as a client. I pray that this is not the case. Hair Wash Lady: Your role and responsibility is to assist the stylist with washing clients' hair and providing other services. It's RUDE and UNPROFESSIONAL to complain in front of a client that you're unable and unwilling to honor my appointment. The professional way of handling it is to quote me a waiting time, and then it is up to me to decide whether I want to wait. But complaining in front of a prospective client says a lot about your attitude and professionalism. Owner: Your establishment has been in FL for many years, and I am sure your business is doing well. But as a new customer who's been living in FL for years, this is the FIRST time I question if the treatment I received from your establishment is due to my race. This was the FIRST TIME I felt I was not welcome and should take my business elsewhere. I am shocked; FL is a mixed-culture neighborhood, and I wasn't expecting to experience such uneasiness from a neighborhood hair salon. read more

I been to this place 3 times. It makes me so sad that I have to write this review, I really wanted to make this place my new hair salon here in NJ. I recently moved from FL and made an appointment with Ona to get a haircut. Waited 6 months because she didn't have any availability, I didn't mind, I was so excited to get my hair done by the "hair saint" like many call her... I got to the place and she was very friendly we spoke and I told her that I wanted my hair straight after she cut it she told me that she doesn't do blow dry and recommended someone she trained and assured that she will do a good job. She did cut my hair after it was straight, but I noticed while i was getting my hair strengthened that Ona was doing a blow dry on someone else and she told me she didn't do it. I felt she lied to me because she didn't want to do it on my 3C hair type. Ok I made another appointment 4 months after, this time I just got a haircut and wash and go Ona did it all, but all she did was complaining about my hair saying that is dry and that I can't be using oil on my hair, things I already know as I been Natural since 2013 and know not to use oils. She did really good on my hair this time I liked it so much that I even bought the products she used on my hair. OH OH WHAT A SURPRISE!! The products she used on my hair was full of oils and minerals and my hair only lasted 2 days I had to wash my hair and do it again with my products (kinky curly) which I been using with no problem for many years. My third appointment with Ona was what made my write this review and never go back to her salon. This time I went there for color and from the minute I sat on her chair all she did was trying to convince me not to get color because it was high maintenance and that I will have to come to the salon every 3 weeks or I will look like I don't do my hair. She goes "you can do full head highlights, but I don't have time I can recommend someone to you" then she tells me that she only have time for 1/2 head highlights. I choose to do 1/2 head highlights because I didn't want anybody else doing my hair like the first time I went there. If I'm going to pay for her rate I want her doing my hair from start to finish. Anyways what a mistake!! She color my hair and let the shampoo girl finish everything else! When I was about to leave she realized my hair was yellow in some parts and my wash and go looked like a mess. She wanted me to go back the next day so she can fix it. I explained to her that I drove 50 minutes and that I took the off So I wont be able to come back. She charged me $500 for a 1/2 head highlights that it looked like my daughter did it. I decided at that moment never to go back to this salon it's clear to me that Ona doesn't appreciate new customers, her name is not even on the website to make an appointment she could have said that to me from the beginning and I wouldn't be writing this review right now. She was trying to blame the shampoo girl for this and assured that she would talk to her, but to be honest is not the shampoo girl fault I didn't make an appointment with her, she is not the one taking home $500 for a trashy Job! I don't even know half the techniques she used, but she was patient and diligent and gave me exactly what I dreamed of...perfect fall hair color. I was looking for a haircutter that can cut curly hair. As I perused Instagram, I came upon 5 Salon & Spa. I read the reviews about Ona. When I called to make the appointment the receptionist (Jennifer) was extremely helpful. She explained that Ona was extremely busy and I would have to wait for an appointment with her. I could not wait because I cut my own hair and I needed immediate attention! She said that I can make the appointment with Natalie, who had an opening and only cuts curly hair. I made the appointment. The professionalism that I received was amazing. They called before my appointment to confirm and explained about the area and what to expect with parking. Jennifer explained the exact procedure that Natalie will be taking and to prepare to be there for about 90 minutes. When I arrived I was welcomed by Jennifer with a warm smile and kind words. Then I met Natalie who was just as kind. Before she cut my hair she studied it, asked me about my hair and what my goals were. Natalie certainly listened intently and began to cut my hair dry. As she was cutting she explained exactly what she was doing. She was knowledgeable about the way curls behave! Then she washed my hair, styled it, checked it, cut again and then applied some products that not only smelled great but worked magic on my hair! I will never let anyone else cut my hair. If you have curly hair and are looking for someone who will take the time to tailor your hair cut then Ona is the one to see. I went yesterday for a curly cut (which was more like a couture cut) and she took the time to look at pics of how I wanted my hair. As Ona was cutting, she explained my curl pattern and why she chose to cut it wet vs. dry. Up until now, I was convinced that dry was the way to go. Ona definitely changed my mind after I saw it styled. Not only did my curls come back to life, but I got the volume that I was so desperately seeking. Aside from Ona's obvious talents, she is such a down to earth person and a perfectionist. In fact, all her staff is super sweet and they look to pamper you and make sure that your experience is stellar. Did I mention they also have valet? Parking in FT. Lee is not always easy, but the salon has that covered as well! Earlier in the week, I went to get my eyebrows done (for the first time) with Nicole. Now my eyebrows are thick, unruly and a hot mess. I usually get them threaded and I'm done within 5 minutes. They've been botched more times than I can count. Nicole worked her magic and I my eyebrows looked AMAZING. She takes her time, is super sweet and very knowledgable (I think she has been working as an aesthetician for at least 14 years.) Nicole has definitely perfected her craft and is worth seeing. She gave us change when we told her we didn't have quarters to put in the meter. She told us about the salon and ensured that Ona was a great hair stylist. Where do I begin!! This place is like a hair sanctuary! From the moment I parked and walked in Jennifer (the receptionist) was so helpful and kind. She made me and my 14yo daughter Nylah feel so welcomed. We heard of 5 Salon and Spa through my daughter and I favorite YouTuber (Franchelli Rodriguez). So I decided to book my daughter an appointment for a curly cut. Luckily, she had a cancellation and we didn't have to wait the 6-8months waiting list. The moment we walked upstairs to greet Óna I felt good vibes. Óna is definitely a HAIR SAINT from the good consejos ( advice) to the way she treated us, everything was amazing. She made us feel so comfortable that I felt like she has been a family friend all along. Not to mention this was our first time here. Óna definitely loves what she do and she expresses herself through the way she cuts and do her clients hair. The first time I came here, I asked for CK (based on the first review below). I told him I needed a change and to feel free to do whatever he wanted. He decided to go for a bob - long in front, short in back. Almost everyone working in the salon stopped by at some point and complimented the haircut, and even the owner - he was very impressed! After my haircut, I got so many compliments from friends and co-workers too. CK is a master of the bob & trendy/modern haircuts, and I've gone back many many times to get my haircut with him. The salon is really nice & accommodating - I've run late and they put me with another hair stylist (who gave her own version of the bob with a much shorter layers in the back which I ended up really liking). They have valet parking - a plus in such a busy area as Fort Lee. The mailing list is really nice because they offer deals every week - more on the spa side than the salon side, but I've gottten the "bring a friend and get 50% off" deal. They serve you a drink and have bagels & grapes while you're waiting for your stylist. The only thing I'd watch out for is that while the stylists here give an amazing haircut that looks perfect trendy, they don't seem to consider as much how a haircut will grow out. I think this is as important because otherwise your haircut only looks perfect for about a month, so I've had to go every couple/few months to get another $80 haircut (a little pricey but obviously I feel CK is worth it as I keep coming back). As someone who's had long hair her whole life until this bob and who has gone as long as 6 months without a haircut, this took some getting used to. POSITIVES: - Amazing haircuts, trendy. I like their products too (Kerastase). - Excellent service. - Good deals on their mailing list (and I've gotten free promotions along with my haircut - e.g. getting my makeup done for free by their new makeup artist). NEGATIVES: - The stylists don't consider how a haircut will grow out as much as they could. My haircuts are absolutely perfect for about a month before it starts growing out and doesn't look quite the same anymore. - A little pricey - CK is $80/ cut. I was hesitant to visit this salon as I would have to come from the Bronx but it was very easy and manageable to get to, even through public transportation. I booked my appointment with Ona about two months in advance. Upon arrival, I was greeted with a smile, offered a beverage, and escorted to the main salon floor. In a short minute, Ona came by with a smile on her face ready to consult with me. The whole experience was truly wonderful! I went in for a "curly cut", as my hair was recently damaged by too much heat and left with much more than a cut. I received tips and advice from Ona, positive energy and vibes throughout the entire visit, and more confident in my look. I booked my next appointment while I was there! I went to this salon for the first time with my aunt. She is a refugee from Ukraine. She had her small service animal with her due to the emotional distress, and psychological effects she suffered from because of the war. Just to help her feel better, I brought her with me to do a blowdry for her, and I did hair extensions w/ Judi. First of all, my aunt was not allowed into the salon because of her service animal. We were told by red haired woman at the reception that she is not even allowed to wait there because "they dont like dogs here" and the "the only way {she} would be allowed is if she is blind". So, as I got my extensions put in she had to sit outside in the cold and watch us through the window on the terrace. Judi, who was so VERY VERY kind, had one of her collegues bring my aunt some tea to help warm her. I have to personally thank Judi because she opened the door multiple times to check on her and make sure she was ok. my aunt was devastated because of this, and it triggered her greatly. I have already called Fort Lee PD to find out how to submit a complaint. The animal is a 6 lb prague ratter, who does not move anywhere from her lap, and they were denied even entry to the waiting room. I am very disappointed in the service, and on top of that we pay money to be there. So if you have a disability, and you decide you want to go to this salon to feel better about yourself, think twice. Because my aunt wanted her identity protected I decided not to post the photo of her and her dog sitting outside but just wanted to express that this is completely UNACCEPTABLE, and I unfortunately will not be back or recommend this salon. This is my new go to salon and that's saying something because I live in Manhattan (about 45 min away via public transport) but WELL worth the trip as it's better than any NYC salon I've been to over the last 6 years! I called the salon after finding Gina on Insta - I was desperate after a failed attempt at going blonde left my hair highlighter yellow - pics below. Jen moved mountains and made it work for me to get seen the next day! I appreciated that sm as I wasn't even leaving the house given the state my hair was in! Gina did a double gloss on me and took me down to chocolate brown, which looks soo stunning now I might not even wanna go blonde anymore. You can really tell she is an expert at what she does and her work speaks for itself. I appreciated also that she had experience with DARK hair types, as that expertise is so hard to find.
