But my wife has recently become a "backpacker" and I wanted to get her fitted for a legitimate backpack so we made an exception to our black friday rule and went to the only place I would go to locally backpacking and other outdoor gear, River Rock Outfitter Even though the shop was filled with customers, Keith and April, the owners, immediately greeted us. When April finished with her customer she began the process for fitting my with a backpack. This process which included measuring her torso, what type of backpacking it was for day hikes or multiple day/night trips, types of weather, trying on multiple packs (with weigjts in the pack) took approximately 40 minutes, maybe more, but it was such a pleasant experience, it only seemed like minutes. My wife and April found the perfect pack but since it was not in the color my wife wanted, April placed in on order. We'll return in a day or two, try it on again and walk out with an early Christmas present for my wife we will now be able to share and enjoy many more years of backpacking together with a comfortable backpack. Site also has some "exclusive" offerings which are knives with better quality materials for slightly more money than the base models. The folks are very knowlegeable. The web site has helpful information in its knife database: In Stock, On Special, New Item, Free Shipping, Staff Pick, Gift Pick, Quality Pick, and Value Pick. While things are pricey, I appreciate what great quality their stuff is. And I while I have never used this before, it sounds like they repair the stuff you get from here for you. The store is different than Virginia Beach and I really like the way it was laid out with multiple levels. Things were organized and neat like I've come to expect a REI. Really great selection of so many things I like. The value is relative, because I view the quality of their items to be exceptional and worth the price. I went to Aspetto with nothing but an idea - take these department issued pants, make them out of something light weight and comfortable, put the pockets in better spots, and build something to support a drop-down holster. Oh, yeah - and I want an extra handcuff pocket somewhere. I was asking for a LOT. A little while later, I had it all. And more. The pants they made fit me perfectly, support a drop-down holster, and even have some extra pockets for life's necessities (lip balm, a flashlight, etc.). I happen to think their prices are reasonable. For less than the cost of a brand new leather jacket, I'm wearing a pair of trousers which were designed, researched and developed, and built - from scratch. Someone said they weren't "terribly impressed for the money," and I'm curious as to his expectations. You don't get this level of customization or craftsmanship inexpensively, and "for the money" I couldn't be more impressed. As to communication, when I was trying to find a place to make my pants (several places said 'it simply can't be done') I stumbled on Aspetto's website. About eleven at night, a chat window opened and asked if I needed help. A short while later I was chatting with one of the owners, and the proverbial ball was rolling. You're not going to find a better custom clothing experience, especially for a non-traditional item. Nor are you going to find a better value for such a thing.
