We went into the store - that's over an hour away - after checking the inventory on the website and calling for a specific fish finder. Come to find out, the inventory was off and there was no fish finder. And yes. We did call to get confirmation that it was in stock. The sales person didn't act like this was a problem. This store does have service concerns where associates can't answer your questions or are basically rude. Today I bought a couple of 20lbs bags of smoker grill pellets. The cashier had a handheld scanner but still wanted me to lift each bag out of my cart for him to scan. I basically buy a few items that I know are a good price. Typical Cabela's. This location was a little small compared to most. When I entered there was a sales rep trying to get people to sign up for the store charge card. This is the first I've seen a dedicated rep at the front of the store. I thought he was little pushy as I just wanted to move into the store and shop. Anyways, I didn't see any sales or promotions and like everywhere else they were low on ammunition. Everything seemed over priced. Didn't spend long on the store. It's what you'd imagine for a Cabela's. It's a store where I'll never fit in as my values and preferences just don't match. When we pulled into their parking lot, my mom parked next to a big van with a bunch of right-wing political stickers on it. Inside, in the driver's seat, a dude was just casually cleaning his hand gun. I visited with my mom, who also isn't a hunter/outdoorsy person, but she was looking for some specific items and was able to find them, including a pair of moccasin slippers that looked comfortable. I personally think the store is too expensive. Everything seems to be $20 more than it should be. I did need to use their bathroom while visiting. It's right near the entrance to the right and is rather spacious. They keep it clean, so that's a plus. They have barriers up for Covid at the registers as well as floor stickers. I definitely kept my distance from the older man in front of us whose nose was rather naked. Not sure I personally have any reason to return. read more

Staff are rude and unhelpful. Managers aren't much better. Staff are reluctant to answer questions short and dismissive. Manager smirked smugly at me when I made a complaint regarding an issue during purchase. I had been given wrong information by staff one week earlier before making a near hour and a half trip to this location. The manager gave me a 'tough crap' attitude. As a supervisor of personnel myself k felt the need to chastise him on his poor treatment of a customer and his unwillingness to provide assistance. I remained respectful and did not use profanity although the issue did warrant it. Still the staff started to seem like I was unhinged and played body guard for the manager as we handled the issue. Several times I was rudely ordered out of the way of other customers near the service desk as if my mere presence was an problem for them. I asked for their corp. number and manager info to make a complaint regarding my treatment. I was given simply their store number. Do yourself a favor, don't shop here. Find a place that wants your business and will actively assist you. read more

Had I come here before going to Bass Pro Shops, I might've been impressed. Since that wasn't the case, Cabela's seems like a wannabe BPS... just not nearly the selection, variety or impressive decor that BPS has. They're also pretty expensive. My very first trip wasn't good at all. I wanted to buy a saltwater fishing rod. I walked the store for approximately 30mins. No one acknowledged me. Not because they were occupied with other customers. But because the fishing rod I wanted was so high up, the manager of the store said ma'am do you need help I'm like wow I know I just seen at least 5 salesman walk past me, the rods he showed me was 59.98 kind of pricy but I didn't mind purchasing it. In order to get the rod I felt that I was pressured to apply for a credit card. Fast forward I didn't get approved well ma'am this rod is regular price 99.99 guess what nope I left. A black woman in the store couldn't get any help until the supervisor comes then he calls a salesman over. Never again will I enter the store where I guess my money isn't good enough. Came here on a snowy Saturday because the Virginia Fine Arts Museum was closed. What a cool store !!! They've got a gun library and also a selection of Ray Bans sunglafferz. There's also a really cool natural wildlife habitat diorama that almost makes you feel like you're at a museum. read more

Wow! This place is huge! I'm not a hunter but I have respect for those who do. This must be Mecca for hunters, like DSW is for shoe hunters. We wandered around checking out all of the cool things. At the back of the store is a big fish tank with a 'petting zoo' of fake animals. Okay, it's not a petting zoo, but I had to find humor in it because it's weird to have pretend wildlife there (psst, Cabelas, I think the hunters know they aren't real : ). All joking aside, we did find some things we wanted/needed...replacement pepper spray $9.99 each and a nice little multi tool. My husband also got venison jerky. Why not?! read more

Cabelas had a triple crown sale with free installation I got the Terrova TM I haven't used the Terrova yet but my experience with the ''free installation'' was horrible. When I dropped my boat off, I provided them with everything they needed for the installation and was asked which side I wanted the Terrova and the battery location. I was also told that someone was going to call me prior to the service. I only received a call later in the day when the boat was ready for pick up. When I got there, I saw that they installed on the left side but the head of the unit instead of face the left side, like every single boat on the store lot, it was facing the center of the boat. So while the motor is stowed, it will be in the way. So I mentioned that to 3 people and they assured me that it could be fixed with no extra charge. So I left my boat overnight and received a call today saying if I wanted them to correct this issue they would have to charge me 1 hour of labor + materials ($150-$200). They gave me a bunch of excuses over the phone trying to justify their mistake so I told them I wanted pick my boat up. When I got there, the boat was sitting outside ready to pull out. Nobody came out.. I didn't see anyone. Literally all they had to do was angle the puck a little and it would fix the problem. Terrible costumer service by the boat center from Cabela's at Short Pump. This review is based solely on our Santa experience, which was no bueno. Honestly the only reason we ended up at this location is because the experience was sold out at the Bass Pro Shop in Ashland (whomp, whomp). It was poorly laid out and barely contained any activities for the kiddos. Fortunately there was not a long line and the 4x6 photo that was included was free. Other than that, the actual Santa was completely disinterested and borderline rude. We had to explain to our daughter that Santa was probably just having a bad day but overall, really disappointed in the interaction. We'll plan better next time for sure but highly recommend that you head up to the Ashland Bass Pro (well in advance of the big day and NOT on the weekend if at all possible) to enjoy the activities and experience of the North Pole. read more

Zero stars!! Negative stars!! Took over a month to deal with a very simple return of a pair of boots because of a broken clasp. I just wanted the clasp; they made me send the pair of boots back to corporate. Staff and corporate returns was not helpful. Terrible, awful, incompetent customer service. They sent a return label; received the package; a week later emailed and said they had no record of my return, or any previous issue-- after 100 emails. Every communication included "we are so sorry to hear you are not satisfied. It's our pleasure to help you." And then: NO HELP! All BS. Terrible, Terrible. Use Amazon. read more

Went to Cabela's in short pump to buy a scope. I browsed a few scopes through the glass case. Found a few of interest. 2 employees (see picture) were talking to each other about 15 feet away (see picture.). They looked over, and I waived to get their attention. They looked back at each other and continued their discussion. Okay. Maybe they didn't see me. They looked over again, and I waived them over and said hello. Same thing ...continued their discussion. I them watched them repeat this with several other customers, some of which were standing right next to them. Only reason to go to Cabela's instead of buying online is customer service. This does seem to be one of the smaller Cabelas but I'm not complaining. I typically shop Cabelas online. I remember when I could only shop them using their catalog. Friendly folks, and good finds. Okay - so I own a 1915 Lee Enfield that I bought at a show 20+ years ago, real cheap at the time (it's all relative)! They had one on the shelf - nearly $1000. Time to get mine out of the safe, oil it up, clean it up and sell it! I went in for specific items and to browse around the firearms to see what they might have and if it might be interesting to me. Found my grilling/smoking spices (on sale!) checked out some other items and even found ammo priced cheap! Good stuff! I don't get this way very often but i like it. read more

We purchased a boat from Cabelas in June of 2020 and up till recently had nothing but good things to say. Now we are beyond disappointed with their service. The boat has had multiple issues and we know that is at no fault of Cabelas BUT while our boat was there for service it sat from January until April ( no work completed to it and no follow up unless initiated by us) and when we picked it up in April the back corner of the toon was smashed in and yellowish color paint scraped up along the side of the toon. We contacted the store and after they "looked into it" they stated that we acknowledged that damage was there upon drop off. There was a dent about 2-3 ft up from the back of the toon that we did acknowledge and then basic wear and tear paint chipping off the bottom of the toon But this is SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE THAT WAS SUSTAINED ON THEIR PROPERTY WHILE IN THEIR POSSESION and they continue to fail to take responsibility for it. We've recommended so many friends and family to Cabelas for their boat purchases but NO MORE. The lowest of low for a company to cause substantial damage to your expensive investment and not have the decency or courage to take responsibility for t. They admitted they did not look at three months of video footage and tried to tell us they have a good team that works for them and they would surely tell them if they hit something. Its very clear this toon had a run in with the yellow pylons that surround their building. Reid has truly been less than professional in this matter an I can only imagine his distaste if this was his boat that he took pride in and received it damaged after being in someone's care. DO NOT RECOMMEND purchasing anything from Cabelas as their moral compass is obviosuly very out of alignment. read more

Wow this Cabela's has some bad customer service. I saw an item I was looking for online and it said it was in stock here. I called the store...no answer. I drove up to the store where I waited 45 minutes at the counter, only to find out they did not indeed have the item. As I was leaving, I asked for a manager, and was met by a woman named Karen. When I explained that I did not think it was reasonable to wait 45 minutes to find out an item their website said was in stock was actually out of stock, she basically said, we are busy, what do you want me to do about it? The balloon over my head said, "act like you care", but that would have been too much for her. This is a horribly mismanaged store. The comment by Paul B. from 9/11/20 is right on point. This is not the first time I have had this type of experience, but I promise it will be my last. read more

Consistently Poor customer service and no clue by the employees! I've been coming here since the very first day it opened and aside from the firearms section the customer service is GREATLY lacking. The rewards program is difficult at best! They CAN'T Access your rewards account unless you physically have the rewards card! Wow I guess they've never realized of a process called careless. BASS PRO-GREEN TOP-KROGER-MARTINS-WEGMANS & even DOMINOS can access your rewards account from a phone number. The kicker here is the checkout SLOTH/HIPSTER guy; between wading up our merchandise he was working us full court press about getting a Cabelas credit card+ our phone number (I'm sure for selling our info) and donating to some cause! He sent us over to CUSTOMER SERVICE to get the points added to our rewards account!!! Painfull!!! The funny thing was the Customer Service guy was over come by events processing what had happened! He said they were big on I.T. SAFETY ... that's why the process was so difficult but when I asked him why they wanted my Phone # , plus opening up a Credit Card account at the register/I added how all other businesses allow access simply through a PHONE# ... he simply stared at me like the deer he shot last weekend! Second time I have been here and made my first Cabelas purchase of a swivel hunting chair for my blind. Very pricey but with 10% Vets Day military discount it was worth it. Thank you Cabela's. Don't buy your ammo here. Bought wrong caliber and tried to exchange for right caliber and they won't do it. Will never shop there again. Was never informed or saw any notice that was the case. A small, pale copy of the BassPro in Ashland with higher prices and a worse selection of products. The fishing section is actually smaller than you would find in a Dick's or Sports Authority, both of which are complete sporting goods stores without a hunting/fishing focus. It's basically a Target sized clothing store that somebody shook a fishing lure at. Customer service was very good however, mostly due to the fact that there seemed to be 2 employees on the floor for every 1 customer. read more

I've seen better. This is nowhere the size of the Cabelas I've been to in PA. It seems like a miniature size bass pro shop, even down to the layout of the "attractions". Everything seemed crammed in to utilize every bit of floor space for retail making it a challenge of walking around on a busy day. I wouldn't call this a place to come and browse around, just a place to find what you need and go. Some staff members were helpful and some didn't seem so approachable. Overall, I don't feel like this place would get me out of the house, I think I'll stick to the online ordering for now. read more

Horrible customer service. Just a joke. I went in to pick up a weapon and there was one guy manning the gun counter. There was an older man checking out and he took forever and the one employee who was there was in no hurry whatsoever to move the line along. I stood there for a half hour or more before giving up and leaving. At one Point the customer in front of me was searching for a document on his phone for at least ten minutes. Did the employee ask him to step aside, find what he was looking for and then come back? Of course not. If you go to pick up a weapon there make sure that you have The Godfather trilogy or War and Peace loaded on your phone, as you'll be able to finish them before being waited on. What a clown show.
