Such a sketch location, so creepy, so secretive, but their $5 burger makes it 4 stars! Yummm! So my friend and I come here to try their burger as he was craving for some. We yelped and googled it and still didn't see the name anywhere until we looked on the side and there it was, oddly on the building. We walk in, and literally, it feels like we've walked into a weird pool hall, dive bar dungeon. There's pool tables straight ahead, thick smells of old cigarettes/ash trays, and pin ball tables/games surrounding the walls. Seriously, it was such an awkward feel. Nobody is here to greet us, we are uncertain if it's a bar or not because it didn't say it was. There's people playing pool and at the bar ordering food. How odd, hmm.... We akwardly walk towards the bar. It's small. Like seriously 2 bartenders/our servers, with a cook on the far left side back. We see a sign for a $5 burger deal so I get that. We take a peak at the menu too just to check things out. Lots of things like soup, burgers, sandwiches, apps. My friend orders a bacon burger, which is about $7 and comes with fries. Let me just say that it was so awkward ordering. My friend asks the bartender/server several questions about the food, and she awkwardly answers. It's loud, he can't hear her, so she just stares at him. He can't hear her, so he stares at her. It's so weird. She's not very welcoming, or social. But we finally order that and ask about drink specials. She makes him some sweet but strong drink. I wish the cups were bigger for the price of drinks. Literally it was like $7-$8 for a 3 inch glass. I mean, it was nice of her to give him the glass and she topped it off, I just thought it would be worth more if they gave bigger glasses. I ordered a tasty and yummy hard cider with fireball. So dayum tasty!!! I can't believe it was like $11 for the drink, but I suppose it was worth it since I loved it and drank every drop of it. I love hard cider, and it's the only type of "beer" I drink. We get our food about 15 minutes after, or less, and it is so tasty. I must say the burgers are so juicy, thick, and tasty. I loved how flavorful it was, and how it wasn't bland or small. The patty tasted homemade and mixed with sausage. It was bomb. It also came with a basket of fries which is plentiful enough! Then the bartender gives us a bucket of sauces which I thought was so cute! Overall, I thought the service was awkward, but pretty good at the end. Drinks are a bit pricey to me. I would rate the food a definite 4/5 stars but the awkward ordering and entrance gave it a 3 stars. Plus, the cigarette smell and dungeon feel also knocked a few stars. From the outside, I thought we were walking into a total biker bar hole in the wall. But once inside, it was a plethora of pool tables, video game machines, pinball, jukebox... and of course tables and chairs. This would be a totally cool place to chill with your friends. It's pretty divey, which is cool if you're into that sort of thing. Negative two stars because there was a stupid drunk chick who kept trying to steal our beers and pitchers. I almost got in my first fight that night.... but anyway, the fact there was a stupid drunk chick isn't the Bar's fault. Went here when my sister and brother in law were in town. Free pool on Thursdays and cheap pitchers of PBR. Fun atmosphere, nice jutebox and friendly bar tenders.' Bonus sideshow when one of the local winos went into a drunken tirade and was yelling incoherently at the bar tender. I find that kind of think funny in a pathetic kind of way. anyway. One of my favorites in Seattle. Truly great low-cost burgers and a raft of great microbrews. What a tasty line up on tap! Specializing in the great local made brews and very diverse selections. Tons of pool tables, myriads of pull tabs for casual gambling while you sip. Very friendly, but lots of space and you can sit alone, also with your brew, no problem. So, so Seattle! Ah, love it (in small doses). They have never seen a tourist here, and if you get here, you are not going to be one, local or not. Add it to your stops for a rainy Seattle afternoon. Friday night we were looking for a place that had reasonable bar food, pinball, and pool. Simple, no? Well everyone vetoed all the usual haunts (the list is long) and we ended up at my house. I get the feeling that next time we're going here so I don't end up with a sink full of glasses and no beer. Nice bartender. Decent selection of beers, and they pour strong drinks. As Mel says, "SKRONG." Pleasantly, the vibe was happy, not overly boozy or hipsterish. Two pinball machines. Six or so pool tables. Couple of those plastic dart machines. Is it Ballard's Best Burgers & Brew? Butts Boobs Beer Bust? Ballers Bedouins Bananas & Be-Boppers? Much if not endless discussion has ensued regarding the B's in the 4 B's name. This is in tribute to a bar that actually makes me feel like I have left the ridiculous hipster mecca that I live in (and will grudgingly admit to being guilty by association with). Thank you to the Four B's for being "real" - you walk in. It's a bar. You get stiff drinks, and lots of options for beer. Adept waitstaff. The food is actually improving, though it has never been bad! The burgers, pita/hummus, chicken strips meal - all really good, and don't make me fear for the health of my bowels. My only disagreement here is with the bathrooms - not the most pleasant place, and today I will refrain from details and we'll just leave it at that. I've been to the 4 B's over many years and it's a great place for birthday parties and just hanging out getting drinks in a non-pretentious atmosphere that is an endangered species in these parts. To enhance my review, I would like to write about my last visit to this establishment, the Saturday of the Fremont Solstice Fest. We were just chillin' in the main area, getting some food.... and the couple at the table next to us, who I was paying little attention to beforehand starts arguing somewhat loudly. We swivel our heads over collectively to catch the gal (who is wearing a tube top, I might add) about to throw a beer (gasp!) at her male companion. The bartender warns her to "leave her beer alone" and she quickly grabs the ketchup! Oh yeah! Things are getting exciting! Although I suddenly realized I was probably in harms way, being a mere three feet away - it didn't matter. There was a struggle as the man grabbed her ketchup clutching paw to resist the onslaught of red goo, fries were wrastled and flung about the table and onto the floor. In this slight squabble, her tube top came down. Yes, I saw her exposed boob which she neglected to fix. (gasp x2!) And as soon as it had begun, it was over... she stormed out while Pirate guy (oh yeah, forgot to add that this fellow was dressed like a pirate! Integral detail!!) goes over and sits at the bar. I would like to add that no one was hurt, except for the poor gals heart and maybe a little pride on both their parts. I didn't ever catch what the fight was actually about, though my table mate overheard something about "not calling for three hours". I'm sure it was a little deeper than that, but one never knows! After the kerfuffle, our lovely waitress came over and was like "What happened?!?! Tell me all the deets!!" and of course we were happy to give her the play by play. She jokingly remarked "I don't work at a dive bar for the pay!" - She, too, clearly relishing the slight overtone of Jerry Springer type phenomena that can happen suddenly in the blink of an eye or exposed breast, as may be the case. I will continue to be a happy patron here, it hasn't gone the way of the Sloop quite yet. AND there is PARKING! Hell yes. read more

I've had good experiences here in the past, but last night a group of 5 of us were asked to leave by a bartender (dude named Courtney) right after ordering our first round because we "didn't tip enough". To call this place a restaurant is a gross overstatement. Speaking of gross, I overheard the bar manager tell a patron that he personally wouldn't eat anything off their own menu! This is after I ordered, so I was skeeved out. I had a burger and fries. My girlfriend had a philly. True to the guy's word it was...ungood. The fries weren't that bad though, so that's what we finished. It's a dark hole of a dive with zero charm, and the crowd is a little rough, but also fun. They have karaoke night, golden tee, and pool tables. The bar staff are pleasant. Service is what you'd expect, but the pours did seem kinda short and super slow when busy despite the fact three people were working behind the bar. You are expected to queue in a line at the register to order a drink, whether or not you're seated at the bar or a table. I imagine this slows things up. Great parking! I visited 4B's on a winter Thurs. night for the pinball and basically I like the place, but pinball machines (around 11 of them) were poorly maintained. Kitchen cutoff 9 p.m. Bartender is friendly and approachable and refunded 50 cents from recalcitrant pinballs. Lots of beer in this tavern, but I inquired and got a nice Ginger Brew ($4) They could clean up 6-months of cig butts in the parking lot and obscure the view of the men's bathroom some, but I'm there for pinball: Gorgar (works but jet bumpers and more don't) 8 Ball Deluxe (broke and kept my coins; b'tender refunded) Star Wars (latest version: .75 extorionate cost) basically the older machines are poorly maintained. But I may come back for this Ballard Taverna Experience again. read more

I've gone here a few times for friends' birthdays and I think it's just OK - nothing special. It's your basic bar: sports on TV, pool tables, darts, jukebox, video games. One plus is they do have a large number of pool tables for the size of the place. The bartenders are friendly and pour stiff drinks. The one thing that distinguishes this bar from others just like it is they have pear cider on tap, and that is most excellent. read more

If you're looking for good food or ambience----DON'T GO THERE! I had the bad luck of having food and drinks there. Their specialty that they're so proud of was their burgers. They need to rethink. I order a bacon blue cheese burger. The burger came out charbroiled, looking somewhat similar to a cow chip. It was approximately a 1/16" of an inch thick with a piece of bacon that had seen better days. This was food I wouldn't feed my dog. I ordered a martini which ended up costing $9 with a $2 surcharge (showing up as $2 beer) because it was a martini. Trust me -- this place is FILTHY, ripped carpeting that looked like several people over the years had puked on it -- and it smelled like it. The ladies room had broken toilets, graffiti'd walls.....just disgusting. By the way, they're also playing shenanigans with the bill....I didn't get an itemized bill until I insisted on it. Best dive bar around with cheeseburgers like none I've seen in the Pacific Northwest. Forget everything you think you know, unless you're from the South, and dive into one. All the portions on everything are huge, and $4 happy hour appetizers can't be beat. read more

we used to call this place the ballard a** house, but thats not really fair. its a dive bar, but one of those dive bars that don't have scensters ironcially enjoying it. there are sports on the tvs, people playing pool, and poor lonely souls playing video poker all night long. its an unpretentious and slightly depressing place to go when you don't want to deal with the "new seattle" upscale scene that is slowly taking over the city. read more

I really dislike his childish and goofy depictions of animals and fish... 9 times out of 10 with one eye way bigger than the other. I like playing pool here. 2 days a week its free. Decent drinks, nice staff. Not the place to take your lady, but a night out with the boys is a different story.. Normal blue collar people. There is a bad ratio of women to men there. Maby one lady for every 15 guys.. Kind of lame, and sometimes theirs a lot of drunkin fisherman that will try to pick fights or try to hit on your girl.. But most of them can barely stand up, so i dony feel very threatened. but if your real laid back you might not like it. I just tell em to f*** off, but 7 out of 10 times this placce is pretty fun.. This bar coulda been chill if it werent for the bitchy bartender lady,,, brandy? Within five minutes of buying our last call drinks (131am) she started to 'inform' me and my girlfriend that we had to leave ASAP and she was going to 'pull our drinks' that were completely full. She continued to hastle us every three or four minutes until we finally left at 150am. On a scale of one to bitch, she was a serious bitch. While i was putting my girlfriends coat on she just had to ask in a nasty way if 'we were waiting for anything'. We get to Ballard about once a year, and stop in here every time. Seahawks on big screen, excellent drinks, friendly staff & good service. We've always just had appetizer kind of lunches before, but they now offer breakfast on Sunday. Both of my companions said their breakfasts were great, and they both finished every bite. My breakfast, not so much. Potatoes were cold and over-medium eggs were very undercooked. Bartender said she'd take it off the bill (she did). Later, the cook came out to apologize and offered to remake it for me, on the house, but I declined. Very nice of him, though, and I appreciated it. When we get back to Ballard next year, we'll stop here again. read more
