It was very nice but felt a bit weird since we were the only diners outside and right across from the fence was the other restaurant which had a bustling outside dinner service happening. The waitstaff was very keen and the sommelier was lovely. We had the 481 Special drink and it was fabulous. Highly recommend. The food was wonderful. I had the tortellini and while this could have been a plain flavorless dish, it was sauteed with lemon, wine and artichokes. Chefs kiss. The bread was delicious (but a bit sweet). We didn't have space for dessert. I would recommend coming here but would note that we were asked to leave after an 1 1/2 even though there were still plenty of open tables (both inside and out) read more

I really like this restaurant. Many people gather at Rosemary and Thyme, but they should take a stroll across the shared courtyard to 481 gourmet. The service from Barbara is always excellent. They are really nice people at this restaurant and the food is quite good. The watermelon salad is delicious and interesting. My friend and I had the trout, which was quite tasty. I never miss it during Savor Sarasota. The Oreo bread pudding is not to be missed. I will be back. read more

I drive by this place almost daily and finally had an open evening to stop in. I'm so glad I did! I was greeted warmly by server extraordinaire, Barbara, who poured my wine and told me about the prix fixe. $40 for three courses, plus a $5 glass of wine. I wasn't expecting that!! I had only popped in for a glass of wine, but decided to stay for dinner. The manager (Anthony) brought over a tasty amuse-bouche from the chef - an adorable salmon/caper/cucumber thing that was delightful with my rosé. Because of my gluten allergy, I had to forego bread and the croutons on the Caesar salad - but it didn't matter, because the Parmesan crisp was such an amazing stand-in! Crisp prosciutto made it even more decadent. Then the salmon: holy cow! I have NEVER had such a crispy skin and it was AMAZING! I cleaned my plate - so much so that I could not enjoy the espresso crème brûlée, but I vow to be back for another try. It was too cold to sit outside this evening, but I can't wait to go back and sit on their lovely patio. Please go visit this little gem. They work hard and their product is excellent! We had dinner at 481 Gourmet last night with our favorite travel buddies and were favorably disposed to the service (Tim was great!), the atmosphere (the violinist was amazing!) and the food! We left 2 hours later satisfied but puzzled why the place isn't packed! Our consensus was that the sign is too small and that, because it's just South of The Rosemary, people might get it confused or give up trying to find it. Too bad if they do because this place is a gem! read more

Our server was very friendly and accommodating and the chef made several trips to our table to make sure everything was perfect. The ambiance was very quaint and charming. We had the shrimp cocktail and meatballs for an app and they both exceeded our expectations. The mushroom ravioli with short rib ragu was out of this world. My family and I had dinner for Christmas day. Prefix menu. Best way to describe the atmosphere is very strange. No music, completely silent, very awkward. Ordered an old fashioned and was served with Marchiano cherries....any good restaurant knows better. My daughter spilled her water and none of the servers helped clean it up. When our server finally came back around, we asked for some assistance, and he walked away and put his hands on his head. Very strange. Prefix menu on Christmas can be hard to pull off, but simply put the food was not good, the service was not good, the atmosphere was not good. There's a new chef in town!! A new executive chef and new general manager made a huge difference. Ignore any older negative reviews (older than May 2022). Today, they are doing everything right and it's a dining adventure. We were there for a birthday celebration. The food is fantastic!! Gourmet, tasty, and generous servings. Let's start with the Strawberry salad. It's mind-blowing, you will not want to share a single bite. Unique, light, and tasty. I wanted to drink the sauce it was so good. We both had the seafood special - Pompano. It was another unique dish cooked to perfection, definitely gourmet with a complimentary sauce and asparagus risotto over grilled eggplant. We chose the three-layer chocolate mousse for dessert and reveled in every blissful bite. The atmosphere is relaxing and charming with style, there's also a beautiful patio area with a stone fireplace. The service is prompt and delightful. This is a definite keeper and go-to restaurant. The patio is beautiful, music pretty good, but we were really not impressed about food and we were absolutely disappointed about the bill. The waiter made so many mistakes, Americano is $2 on the menu, $5 on the bill, the beer $8 on the bill while $6 on the menu, so on... I mean really how can you tell your customers that these are the prices in the computer? Aren't you supposed to have the correct price in the computer? And even the tips included by default is different then what they suggested. Not planning to be back. read more

We just had dinner for 5 and everything was wonderful. All of the food was fairly priced and really well-prepared - no overcooked fish, which seems to be rare here. The staff was very courteous and attentive but not pretentious or smothering. Pleasant background music that was not too loud. Great drink and wine choices. Folks one of the best Italian cuisine in Sarasota. I have had Caesar salads but this twist on Caesar salad and the presentation was exceptional. Prosciutto wrapped Caesar was brilliant and delectable. The braised short ribs with rosemary made me salivate even after eating it. The seafood bouillabaisse was a chance to visit another planet of pure deliciousness. The duck apple ravioli was exceptional. Thank goodness I had folks with me so I can try everything. With all this great food I can't wait to try the dessert. Heaven is here on earth at 481 Gourmet. Thank Heavens. OMG this is the best crème brûlée I have ever had graced my lips. Just want to give a shout out to 481 GOURMET, a high end restaurant on Orange St. in the Rosemary section of downtown Sarasota. Very attractive restaurant both inside and on the outside patio. We ate outside. Our server Barbara was top notch. Good menu with a bit of everything but not overwhelming. Antipasta was terrific and enough to share. Cocktails were perfectly made. Good bread (a must for me). The fish was excellent (we ordered the Halibut and pan seared Red Snapper). Very nice dinner experience and worth a try. read more

Love this spot! My mom is a local who frequents this restaurant, 3rd time back for me. Each visit is a great experience-always sit outdoors on the patio (especially charming during cooler days with the outdoor fireplace). Service is always great. They carry my favorite liquor (Casamigos tequila) and make fantastic cocktails to my mom's liking. Tonight our table shared - "feasted on" is probably more accurate! - the duck confit special, meatball, watermelon salad, mussels, baked goat cheese and espresso creme brûlée.... ALL DELICIOUS! Beautiful night all around! We were greeted warmly by the staff. Decided to sit outside on a glorious night by the fireplace and twinkling lights. Our delightful waitress, Barbara came by and impeccably took care of us for the next 2 hours. The Manager also came over during our meal to ensure we were happy with our evening so far. Yes, we were very happy! For starters we ordered the Pinot Grigio, Spinach Salad and the Burrata Plate. So flavorful with the melding of smoked egg, crispy onions and a divine mustard vinaigrette. The Burrata was fresh and rich with thinly sliced and rolled prosciutto, tomatoes, a wonderful balsamic glaze, and toasted hazelnuts. I ordered their special salmon with beautiful plump shrimp over linguini in a rich sauce. We also ordered the fresh catch trout beautiful cooked with a cauliflower side. We each devoured most of our plates, Now on to the dessert. Oh yes, Bread Pudding which the manager recommended ~ thank you. So flavorful. With ice cream and whipped cream of course. We shared one and it was more than enough. To be honest, we did not want to leave but we had 7:30pm tickets to see An American in Paris at The Van Wezel. How apropos as we sat outside under twinkling lights and a beautiful starry sky as if we were in Paris! Excellent food, service, location and atmosphere. read more

We had our first dining experience here after reading about the restaurant in The Ticket a week or so ago. The outdoor dining area was perfect and frankly, next door to another eatery that was offering live acoustic guitar music. We shared the poached pear salad (lovely). My wife had the salmon special over a unique pasta with a Dijon mustard flavor. My tortellini dish was excellent with enough sausage to really spice it up. Clearly, 481 wants to cater to Italian wines, but a few more California reds would have been nice. Oh, the restaurant is close enough to the Van Wezel to make it an excellent pre-theater dining spot. read more

The manager, Anthony, is ruining this place. The chef, servers, and bartenders are outstanding, and the food and menu is wonderful. I was hoping after their remodel that Anthony would disappear. It would have been nice to see tablecloths on the tables. Also there were no wine glasses on the table either.... kind of tacky. When I've dined there, Anthony is a sour apple and demeaning to the employees. The few times I've eaten there, the tables have been less than half full. Anthony sets the tone, and it's quite unpleasant and uncomfortable. I won't be returning unless there is a new personable manager to replace Anthony. He's why I think the place. My wife and I ordered ribeyes. They were cut thin and had very little in the way of seasoning or flavor. The ribeyes at Connor's or Texas Roadhouse are larger, seasoned better, and less expensive. The broccoli was soggy, and the horseradish mash had little to no horseradish flavor. It also took a long time for our food to arrive. While the food was disappointing, the environment and the service were great! We'll likely return but only for drinks in the courtyard area, which is beautiful. read more

I went to this restaurant to see old friends. Boy what a fantastic surprise. THe food was extremely different in that the presentations were great. The steamed mussels were the best I have had and I have eaten in top restaurants in the North east specializing in mussels. The special of the day was Pompano which I had and it was delicious. Also on our table was an order of Duck which my friend said was the best he has had and that was after he let us all know his pear salad was incredible. The waiter was very accomadating and explained the dishes and to let us know that he was there to make sure we had everything we needed. There were 6 of us at dinner last night at 481 Gourmet, Sarasota, FL. 4 of us were not pleased with our meals and I was particularly disappointed. I had the Linguini and Clams. It caught my eye and sounded good. The dish came out with the pasta stuck in one tight congealed lump. Ok......I pried it apart and mixed it with what they called the sauce. The clams were like shoe leather and the sauce tasted like the liquid in a prepackaged can of clams. No seasoning. As there was no salad included, I went home hungry. For the price, a small house salad would have been appropriate. I took the dish with me and will drain it and mix it with a proper sauce. Other meal issues included dry grouper, cold polenta and very small portions for the price. Sad state of affairs for a new eatery. read more
