    Pasta special
    Richard S.

Took some friends here- love both the atmosphere and food- consistently good. Our waiter was excellent and recommended a few of the specials; we took advantage of his recommendations. The warm focaccia with dip was a good beginning. My arugula salad with Parmesan and tomato was excellent as was my pasta with lobster in vodka sauce.(both 9 out of 10) Each member in our party loved their meals and took home unfinished entrees. Full bar with nice wine selection added to the experience. Amici remains one of my favorite restaurants even though it can get noisy.

Outstanding and so happy we ate here! From the service (nick was awesome) to the food...every bite was so enjoyable. For apps: ordered prosciutto and artichokes, eggplant rollatini, and one special: stuffed pepper. All was very good- but the stuffed pepper was outstanding. The sausage was tender, the pepper was such a nice compliment, and the sauce was delish. Ordered two salads and had enough to share with our table... all ingredients were fab. Dinners: Rigatoni alla norcina Penne al pesto genovese Gnocchi caprese Special of day homemade fettuccine (OMG!) with chicken and mushrooms; And I asked Nick to help me between the pappardelle bolognese or tortellini alla vodka- he wrote down his choice and said I would find out.... He brought out the braciole & oriecchiette! The braciole was so tender. Loved it! Had to have dessert- ordered one (wanted them all) Pear and ricotta - yum. So so good. Didn't even get to the wine- such a great list. Enjoyed by all.

Came in after a performance from the Opera House. Have been wanting to try it for a while. It was still an hour before closing and no host at the front. Once I saw a person who I assumed was an employee who said to just sit at the bar. The Limoncello was ok but the Carpaccio had a terrible texture and lacked flavor. A lot of it got wasted. The Bartender was very friendly with obvious frequent customers but just not very attentive to us. She didn't bother to ask how the food was until we were leaving. She had to be aware as it is a small bar and not busy. My friend said the paradise pasta was good.

Had the best rigatoni dish of my life. Wonderful atmosphere, locals come here often. Highly you recommend!!!

    Lasagne and Veal Amici

Honestly we have been putting off trying this place because there's so many Italian restaurants to choose from downtown but WE LOVED IT. We tried the meatball appetizer, the side Cesar, and the calamari and they were all amazing. For dinner we had the lasagne which is made from scratch and it's some of the best I've ever had. Meat sauce was AMAZING. I had the veal amaci and the mushroom sauce and the tenderness off the veal was so good. Will definitely be back in the future. Service was amazing too.

We lucked out Friday night. "An hour's wait," we were told in one place. "Sorry, we're full," said the maître d elsewhere. Then we saw this cafe, with a single vacant table on the street. "Can we have it?" my friend asked. "Well, if you can find chairs," said the fellow who I think is the owner. So we took spare seats from other tables -- with permission, of course! -- and sat down to an al fresco dinner. Cafe Amici is perfectly fine, though not the best Italian food I've had. My eggplant parm reminded me of the frozen Celantano's that I buy in Publix. My friend complained that her pappardelle , which looked delicious, was a tad too salty. I tasted T's sausage and pepper; it was good! My husband and I started off with salad. Had we known the size, we would have split one order. The other couple shared bruschetta. "The bread tastes stale, a bit too hard," said my friend. The restaurant was filled with people laughing and enjoying their evening out, which can outweigh the actual meal ... as it did for me that evening.

We just moved to downtown Sarasota and went out to dinner. Started out great at Cafe Amici when we were greeted by the owner who gave us a great table where we could watch the US Open tennis match. Yay! But things quickly went downhill when I asked the server to make me a mocktail. (I quit drinking 5 years ago for health reasons.) He quickly and rudely said, "We don't do that." I told him no problem, I have a recipe. I carry a margarita mocktail recipe in my purse. The server very reluctantly took it and said he would "ask." It's a very simple thing to make. He seemed intimidated by the female bartender, but she made the drink, but by that time I was pretty offended because I shouldn't be treated like a freak because I don't drink. Anyway, the drink was actually really great, except there was no salt on the rim. My husband, not wanting me to be disappointed, politely asked if there was any way they could put salt on the rim. And, if you can believe this, he said, "No because we would have to use a whole new glass." I expressed my disappointment and he eventually brought another glass rimmed with salt and poured the remaining drink into it. In other news, my husband got the eggplant Parmesan and I got the gnocci. They were both very great. Unfortunately, I won't be returning. It's disappointing because the food and my husband's Chianti wine were really good.

We went there for espresso martinis last night about 9 PM. And at the bar and the bartender was very attentive and the drinks were great.

Misty was our server and she was so pleasant, engaged and professional. She took the time to have a lovely chat with us and that was so nice. Also, I ordered a Lemon Drop martini and it was so wonderful that I asked if I could talk to the bartender. I Didn't get her name but she was so nice! She Gave us the recipe, the process and stayed for a lovely chat. Oh, and BTW, the food was great! We mixed a bunch of things ( mussels, Brussels, tacos and peppers) and all were terrific. With the exception of the peppers. Not great and Misty took care of us when we gave her that feedback. Overall, a 10 of 10 for service and 9 of 10 for food! Go there, you'll love it!

We specifically came expecting a lunch experience based on their advertising and were frustrated to discover that wasn't the case. There's a big difference between serving lunch and serving brunch with a few lunch items sprinkled in. Restaurants should be transparent about what they actually offer so customers can make informed decisions before visiting. If you're looking for a true lunch menu on the weekend, this may not be the place for you.

I was stationed in NAPOLI for 3 years while serving in the United States Navy…read more I will be the first to tell you that most pizza restaurants are NOT even close to the authentic Neopolitan Pizza this restaurant makes. The ingredients are the reason this restaurant will become my go to place for AMAZING AUTHENTIC NAPOLITANO PIZZA in the future. While we tried the restaurant for the first time, I couldn't contain my enjoyment and while my wife and I were eating I played my favorite Italian music off my phone, as loud as I could, first (Tu Vuo Fa 'L' Americano), and then (NAPOLI) by Nino D'angelo. My wife was concerned with the volume as she thought it would upset the patrons and the restaurant staff, but it did the opposite....everyone was singing along with a smile on their face...recognizing that I was having the time of my life, bringing back memories of BELLA NAPOLI! Very authentic cuisine and excellent service!

My wife took me to Bella Napoli this evening to celebrate Father's Day…read more We had 6:00 PM reservations for an inside table. We were seated in the back next to a serving/drinking station across from a group of 6 10 year old girls...whose parents were eating outside. The noise level was so unbearable that we asked to be moved outside, which they accommodated. But the noise level was strike number 1. After we were seated outside we waited. And waited. And waited more, roughly 20 minutes before we finally caught the attention of a waitress. Strike 2. My wife order the white bean soup for an appetizer and the Branzino. I ordered the special...Veal Osso Buco over risotto The white bean soup was delicious. 4 out of 5 stars. The Branzino was a little fishy tasting, which it should not. We order Branzino all the time and it's never tasted fishy. But the most disturbing part of the meal was the bait and switch using Pork in place of Veal for the Veal Osso Buco. Yes you read that right. It was Pork. Not Veal. The meat was gray, fatty and not very tender. Veal is tan or light brown, extremely tender and very lean. Charging $49.95 for Veal Osso Buco would have been reasonable. Trying to pass off Pork as Veal for that price is down-right criminal. Strike 3. AN ABSOLUTE HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE.! WE WILL NEVER GO BACK!!! Response to Ceasar D: the parent's of the 6 little girls (who you must admit were quite loud and unsupervised) were sitting inside. All of the children's parents and some other adults, about 14 adults in total, were seated outside. So please don't try and pass this off as if they were celebrating Father's Day. They weren't even sitting with their "Fathers". It simply demonstrates poor restaurant management. The wait for a server outside was so long, my wife had actually suggested we leave. I truly wish we had. Regarding the Branzino, if it HAD been fresh it would not have tasted fishy! As for the Osso Buco, I'm a culinary expert and know the difference between Veal and Pork. I knew it was pork as soon as I tasted it! The fat was a dead giveaway. Perhaps now that this has been posted, you'll start using veal or be truthful and simply let your patrons know you're serving Pork Osso Buco! I stand by my original post.

We wanted to try everything, but of course couldn't, so we made do with a couple of their signature cocktails (wonderful), a flatbread appetizer (also wonderful) and the very delicious meat loaf and the gemelli pasta entrees.
