We have always had great food at 4-Star, the girls are always Friendly & don't make You feel like a bother!!

This was our first visit to 4 Star since the "refresh." The ambiance is definitely elevated with the improvements that were made to the decor and furnishings. The general level of cleanliness in the dining room is much improved, except for the ceiling tiles, which appear untoched and in similar condition to our original visit and photos. As stated in other reviews, it is the same exact menu as before the "refresh." I get it if you don't adopt everything that's recommended by the professionals, but to completely revert to your old ways is clearly a stubbornness and unwillingness to change. Our server was prompt, friendly, and cognizant. Before reaching the table, she realized my wife's order was wrong and she immediately brought it back to the kitchen. We had breakfast this time and the food was good. Nothing "amazing" but nothing to complain about either. Being "OK" isn't going to garner a whole lot of repeat customers, or attract new people to go out of their way to visit your obscure location. When I think of eating out, there's nothing here I would crave. I can get the same or better at a dozen other places elsewhere. Overall, 4 Star got a much needed makeover of its dining room and publicity boost, but that's about it. Everything else is back at or headed back to the way it was - in decline. Kind of defeats the whole purpose of participating in the "refresh" in the first place. read more

Prices way too high!!! Food is nothing to brag about. Three pancakes and sausage are 10$ which is beyond ridicules

I have passed by this diner for years. My wife and I decided to stop today and what a great decision. We left there stuffed. The portions were giant. The service was great. The decor was through back not 60's but country homey. The chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes was out of this world! The mile hike turkey dinner was enough for 2. The soup and salad was fresh and very flavorful. I recommend this hidden gem I'm sure the locals all know about it. If your ever in court land Ohio around breakfast lunch or dinner make a stop here you will not be disappointed. Our whole bill was under 40 dollars. read more

absolutely terrible. i don't even know how i can start this review but i'll start it off with this; the first thing i noticed when we got there was the waitress as soon as we entered came up to us but shortly after gave us this nasty look and told us to go find a seat for ourselves. first of all, there is no need to be bratty nor rude, we had just gotten there and we didn't do anything nor say anything yet. when we sat down, we had waited there for about 22 minutes, which i know the exact time because i always text my friends and/or family if a restaurant is going poorly so i can inform them not to go there. 22 minutes, and they didn't even notice us. wow. not only that, but the place was just absolutely cramped and dirty as well, the restaurant did not look nice AT ALL. it's almost like they threw some tables and chairs out and called it a day. not organized at all either, plus there was food all over the floors, chairs and tables as well. anyway, whenever they took our order, after 22 minutes as mentioned before, they prentended not to hear me and took my order at least like 2 or maybe even 3 different times. and yet they STILL got it wrong. i ordered chocolate chip pancakes and my father ordered just some eggs bacon and toast. they gave me regular pancakes with a side of fries. what?? in what world did i even order that. the bacon and the toast they gave my dad was burnt, the bacon was more burnt than the toast, it was literally black. that was how burnt it was. all over the restaurant there was just people yelling and tvs screaming and also babies crying and we almost got up and left. not only that but all of our silverware was quite dirty. absolutely disgusting, WE had to clean our silverware and plates ourselves. is it really that hard to give it a quick rinse at least? there was also what looked like a booger in my water so great. the thing is, i didn't even ask for water; i asked for hot tea. great job. now i now why it's called a "4 star restaurant" and not anything higher. never coming back here again. read more

Food is great, service is friendly, atmosphere could use an update and bathrooms need repair. But I'll come back for the salads in a heartbeat! Fresh and excellent flavor combinations. I don't remember the name of it but had the chicken salad with cranberries and walnuts, it's huge. The chicken is seasoned to perfection. Follows the spirit of a family diner. Things are just as expected. Good home style meals at a good price. Staff is friendly and take good care of you. For dinner I recommend the Friday fish fry. And Lunch the Chicken Salad on Croissant. Both come with their awesome breaded French Fries. read more

We had a late lunch today at Four Star. Not as good as usual. The staff are always nice, and the restaurant is always clean... but the food was mediocre at best. Nope nope nope. Came here because of the Yelp reviews, but my fellow Yelpers, you really did me wrong. The food was fine. It was diner food and that's what I was expecting. 1. Saw a waitress get bumped into by a patron while carrying toast. The patron ended up grabbing it by the crook of her arm. The waitress then straight up took the toast with her hand, put it back on the plate and served it to another table across the restaurant. 2. Service was slow, but I could have overlooked that. 3. Bathroom was absolutely filthy. I have to assume other parts of the restaurant are too. 4. They used canned spinach in the omelette. I'd take frozen, no biggie. But this was grosssssss. Thankfully my friend gave me half her breakfast or I would have been very hungry. Go somewhere else in town. Friends went to Top Notch and said it was fine. Folks, you've got to try this unassuming restaurant in Cortland, Ohio. The volume of food you receive is enough for 2 meals. The menu items are quite extensive: there is enough breakfast , lunch and dinner choices to satisfy anyone. I chose the pork chop dinner, after being assured by server Kelly that they were bone in as opposed to boneless, accompanied by a large portion of chunky apple sauce and home fries. I believe there is more flavor in bone in pork chops. Starting off the meal was a bowl of wedding soup, not a cup but a 5 inch bowl of soup full of rice, veggies, chicken, and meatballs. I took most of it and the applesauce home since I could have filled up on them both. Excellent flavored soup. Next two 11-14 ounce pork chops, each about an 1 inch thick, along with the home fries arrived. It was overwhelming!! The pork chops were nicely browned on one side and the home fries were crispy but still tender. All I could handle was one pork chop and it was easily cut and flavorful. I would suggest that a bit of side gravy be served since pork chops have a tendency to dry as they are sitting. The server Kelly was very attentive, checking back and brought me all the necessary to go containers. Whenever I go back to Cortland, Four Star Diner will be my eating place. read more

THIS is what a diner is all about. Stopped in for breakfast and had the corned beef and hash special, and it was fantastic. My coffee was never empty and the portion size was extremely generous. A great example of a great staff, as they certainly take care of you. Looking forward to trying other menu items in the future. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. read more

We travel all over Mahoning and Trumbull county for breakfast and this is one of our favorite restaurants. BEST pancakes ever!
