DISCLAIMER: This place obviously, unabashedly has right-leaning politics. If that patently offends you, then this is not the place for you. That is NO REASON to give a restaurant vindictive 1-Star reviews because you disagree with their views. That makes YOU bigoted and no better than THEM. You came here for the FOOD, right? It's not like there's anyone up on a stage proselytizing. Enjoy your meal and ignore the wall art. Even the TV's were tuned to Motor Trend, cars... not news or politics. That being said, this place is a DINER... set your expectations accordingly. No one is claiming to be a Michelin star fine dining establishment or anything fancy. For what they are, they seem to do a good job. The parking lot is always full. I really doubt people would spend money on bad food and experience just to make a political statement. I know I wouldn't. I'm just there to eat a good meal. As for our experience, it met expectations. Was it "amazing"? No. Nor did we expect it to be. We expected a good wholesome meal and that's what we got. The food was good, the portions are huge, the prices are reasonable and during our visit, we didn't witness or experience any of the complaints others have made about the service or management. Overall, we were content and in the end, that's what a Yelp review is about. read more

Stopped in with my wife after a football game on a Saturday afternoon for lunch and I wasn't disappointed! I ordered a pepper burger and I added an over easy egg and bacon. The burger was cooked perfectly and was huge! I could barely finish the burger and could not finish the fries! I read a lot of reviews that talk about not going their because of the little bit of political aspects, it doesn't bother me. Everyone has their own political views and are allowed to, that is the beauty of this country! I will definitely be back for some more amazing food! read more

Yowza yowza went there for breakfast on Saturday. What a great breakfast place. I ordered my eggs over medium and they actually came that way. The portions were enormous take a look at the pictures. Good food modest prices I recommend you check it out. They have quite an extensive menu so many item the kid's menu is it's own separate menu. The food at nearby Vasilio's is at least 10X better without any of the Klan vibes. Seriously go elsewhere. We ordered basic diner food for dinner - was bland and tasteless. Service was adequate. Seemed like a small group of regulars. Decent pie selection but we didn't try any. read more

Didn't care for the huge Trump banner. You would think it would be neutral. They weren't enforcing the masks on rule. Staff had no mask and no customers came with any on except our group and one other family. Got the ayce fish. It looked delicious. It was COLD. Mac n cheese was gross. Wasn't homemade it was GFS made. Didn't look fresh and cold. Cole slaw was really good. Service was decent. Apparently, the owner doesn't care about their health or health of their customers. The staff here are very kind and the food is delicious. We have had breakfast, lunch and dinner here. Everything we order is always good. The burgers are my favorite. They have better burgers than other restaurants that their whole menu is burgers. They have daily specials which even include a special on their burgers which I believe is on Monday. Give this place a try. You won't be disappointed. read more

We visited Top Notch diner last night, and it was a great experience. Since I have to address the mask issue, I will get that out of the way first. No, they do not require masks, however their other precautions far outweigh any that I have experienced in any other restaurant. We had absolutely no concerns about eating there. They even have a sanitation chamber where items touched by customers and staff are disinfected. It's too bad to see their ratings drop over this and over politics. Now for the food and service...Top Notch indeed. We had the Spare Parts appetizer which seemed to have a full portion of the individual items. We sampled a bit but had to take most of it home. It came with a generous bowl of both marinara sauce and ranch. I'm not usually a lover of jalapeño poppers, but my husband convinced me to try them. Delicious. My husband had the Italian sausage sandwich which he said took him back to childhood. The marinara sauce was his favorite ever. It was huge and he couldn't finish it. I had the meatloaf entree with masked redskin potatoes and a dinner salad. The meatloaf had a very different consistency from my meatloaf, but it was quite good. You get three large slices so I have a slice and a half left for lunch today. Our server was friendly and attentive, exactly what one hopes for when eating out n If this isn't somewhere you are comfortable going right now that's fine, but for everyone else, we highly recommend Top Notch. When I visit a restaurant I prefer to leave the politics at home first off. Let me start with something positive...the servers were friendly and the restaurant appeared clean. We ordered omelettes and I'm not sure what eggs they used but it was very thin and rubbery texture. I could not even tell it had Swiss cheese in it and the spinach was globs of canned or frozen. I can't recall a restaurant meal that I was actually unable to eat! read more

Best food and service and atmosphere in the entire state of Ohio! If you like burgers you will love it here. Can't be beat! If you haven't tried it yet, shame on you and your taste buds. Breakfast with an unwelcome side order of deeply deranged politics. Look, I prefer my breakfast without a political message thrown in, That would include messages from ANY political side. But, I admit, the unhinged MAGA world is the very least palatable breakfast side dish. The owner is a rabid Trump supporter and displays her cult membership prominently inside and out. It might have been tolerable IF the food been good. But it wasn't. Not even close. When the waitress asked if I wanted my homefries "deep fried or grilled" I suspected a problem with the food. Proper homefries are neither of those things. And, as foreshadowed, the potatoes were just truly gross. Soggy with some weird unrecognizable seasoning which colored them a yucky red color. The yolks of my sunny side up eggs were close to being hard. No excuse for either of those. Bacon was adequate and toast was actually excellent. Weak coffee though. My advice: Keep you politics to yourself if you want my business. Why a business would want to intentionally drive away an entire segment of potential customer base is beyond my imagination. But maybe doing so in Ohio is a sound business plan? I should have done my research prior to stopping, but later learned that the owner intentionally violated health codes and public safety during the covid pandemic. Alas, it was the only option in the area and we had no choice. I will never eat here again. To atone for supporting this political establishment (it has no right to call itself a diner or restaurant) I am donating an amount equal to 10x what breakfast cost to the Biden campaign. I will also send donations to democratic candidates in Ohio. read more

It was a fine restaurant. Food was good. Service was slow. My only objection was their interpretation of the seniors menu. I always thought it was as a courtesy to those of a certain age with modest means (like how I diplomatically said that?). Top notch offered a junior burger with fries. Unfortunately, I think only a slider could have been smaller. Factor in going to McDonalds down the road because I was still hungry, I definitely didn't save any money on lunch. read more

I ordered the steak and eggs, I told the waitress I wanted the steak medium well. If you have ever been there you know that you can see into the area where they prep your food, mine sat there for at least ten minutes while they fixed my husbands pancakes. I could see the waitress touching other peoples food with bare hands, as she stood there playing with her phone. By the time our food came out my eggs had hardened and I wasn't even able to cut the steak it was so tough. Basically what it was, was a piece of pot roast that looked like it had been cooked two or three times. The potatoes were a nasty joke. Never order the pancakes. They are so thick you could never get them done in the middle and they have NO FLAVOR. Just taste like flour. No drink refills. The waitresses are dressed disgustingly. The owners hover over everything, but they never do anything to fix the food or clean. YUCK!!!!! Never going back. Even if it was free food. read more

Ordered a pot roast with mash potatoes, gravy, & vegetables. The meat was extremely dry, potatoes had no taste, and the vegis were frozen. I asked the waitress to take it back because it was no good and she did with no problem. The owner came to my table and demanded I pay for the meal bc he said "there was nothing wrong with it." So I said fine and asked for my dinner back, and instead of simply taking it off my bill, the owner made me a new one!! I was shocked how rude he was when he came to the table and insisted the food was fine. I will NEVER go back there again!! read more

Terrible place!! Disrespectful to employees! Don't go here! Posted on Facebook that their employee had to pay for a walked tab when it was obvious the customer walked out on purpose without paying. Backed up there comment by saying "All" restaurants do that and if the customers didn't like it they didn't have to come back. We had breakfast this time and the food was good. Nothing "amazing" but nothing to complain about either. Being "OK" isn't going to garner a whole lot of repeat customers, or attract new people to go out of their way to visit your obscure location. When I think of eating out, there's nothing here I would crave. I can get the same or better at a dozen other places elsewhere. Overall, 4 Star got a much needed makeover of its dining room and publicity boost, but that's about it. Everything else is back at or headed back to the way it was - in decline. Kind of defeats the whole purpose of participating in the "refresh" in the first place.

It's less than a 10 minute drive from downtown Akron but it's off the beaten path. All locals (except me) in here. When I went (10AM Friday) the place was almost full, and I was dining alone, so I sat at the counter, happily next to the kitchen. To look at the kitchen was like looking inside a bee hive, bustling with activity but barely a sound. I could just make out what was being calmly stated "2 Silver Dollar, Salmon, Country Fried, 2 Over Easy..." It was fun to watch, but what was important was the output. It took just over 6 minutes from the time I order until it was sitting in front of me, and everything was perfect! The waitresses were so efficient. I saw my order hit the window and in about 12 seconds it was delivered. They were so customer focused, they were (jokingly) fighting over refilling my tea. When I was done and paid for I waited outside for Uber to pick me up (3 min). I looked back on what I'd just experienced, and snapped a picture of the two parking lots of cars for Fred's Diner. I counted and there were 32 cars at Fred's. OK maybe 10 were staff so 22 cars for customers, let's say on average there were 2 customers per car (remember I walked here so no car for me). By my calculation, Fred's was feeding 44 people every 30 minutes or so. No wonder they're only open 4 days a week and only for breakfast - lunch. I calculate they might serve 3200 meals in those 4 days, and then take 3 days off to get ready for the next week. I love this place. Wish I lived here so I could come more often.

1 Star My experience at Top Notch Diner in Cortland, Ohio was extremely disappointing from start to finish, and unfortunately, I cannot see myself ever returning. To begin with, the food was very basic and underwhelming. Nothing about the meal stood out in a positive way, and it definitely did not feel like the kind of food that would make me want to come back. It was not especially appetizing, memorable, or worth the visit. I understand that diners are often simple by nature, but there is still a difference between simple comfort food and food that feels like very little care or pride was put into it. In this case, it felt like the food lacked quality, flavor, and effort. The service was not terrible, but it was also not great. Our waitress was only so-so. She did the basics, but the overall service did not feel warm, welcoming, or attentive enough to improve the experience. When the food is already disappointing, good service can sometimes save the visit. Unfortunately, that was not the case here. What really made the experience so negative, though, was the impression left by the owners. Based on what I experienced, the ownership came across as unprofessional and uncaring. It honestly felt like they did not truly care about their staff, the quality of the food being served, or the customers who choose to spend their money there. A restaurant should make people feel welcomed, respected, and appreciated. Instead, the atmosphere felt uncomfortable and disappointing. In my opinion, the biggest issue with this diner is not just the basic food or average service. It is the overall feeling that the people running the place do not take enough pride in the business, the crew, or the dining experience they are providing. That kind of attitude affects everything, from the food to the service to the way customers feel when they leave. This was easily one of the worst dining experiences I have had in a long time. I left feeling frustrated, disappointed, and completely uninterested in giving this place another chance. I will not be returning to Top Notch Diner, and based on my experience, I would not recommend it to others. read more

Pretty mediocre food, bad service, and awful overly political atmosphere. I would recommend 4-Star diner down the road. This place used to be an okish dinner a few years ago, nothing to write home about just mediocre food for a reasonable amount of money. Nowadays though I would avoid it. Around 2016-2017 the atmosphere and service quality really took a nosedive, owners started getting really political and began to alienate half of their customers. Servers were rude and waiting times became unbearable. The thing that really drove me away from this place though was their blatant disregard for CDC giddiness during the covid 19 pandemic. There was absolutely no one wearing masks or social distancing including the staff. It's really a shame honestly, it's become a bit of an embarrassment to the community. If they cleaned up their act by dropping all this political stuff and getting their service back up to par I'd give this a solid 3 stars, maybe 4 on a good day. But until that happens I'm giving this place 1 star. read more

Just got back from there 2 hours ago. It was Burger Night!! Had a mushroom/Swiss half pound burger medium rare, and it was delicious! Fries are not frozen ones either. Drinks included with refills. Place was packed for the car show, but, there was no delay in service. Another favorite meal there is the chicken parm. special on Wednesday nights. I'v been going here for the last 5 years for there cod loin all-u-can-eat fish on fridays and always perfect. Fish is always over a inch thick with a nice thin crispy beer batter. I can't see where all the bad reviews are coming from i have always had great service here. We see the signs they've put out and drive on by. They've cut out many would be patrons because of their lack of business sense and critical thinking skills. The Ambiance is combative before you even set foot in the door. I don't want to eat somewhere that supports felons. read more

Absolutely the best fish dinner in town they only use Iceland Cod it is the Cadillac of Cod, tender, white and flakey. I will definitely be back and it was a real value worth every penny and then some. read more

The toilet seat had dried urine on it that appeared to have been there for days. I don't know how the men's room was, because after I told my husband about the condition of the women's, he didn't use it. We also had to wait to pay our bill, and the place was not crowded at all. No one was paying attention to the register. This place would be a LOT better if the wait staff had more training and the cleaning staff did their job.
