I don't generally update my reviews but listen when the food is good, it's good. I once again ordered the rib dinner with mac & cheese and collard greens which was still made with l.o.v.e. We were immediately greeted at the door and seated within five minutes. Our order was quickly put in so that we could GET TO IT in a timely fashion. We never felt rushed and really enjoyed our time there. I did mention in my last review that the check was placed on the table while I was still eating my entree which is truly a pet peeve of mine. I truly appreciated that this time the check was not presented until the server made sure we had everything we needed from the kitchen. We left full and feeling like we were hosted by family. We were recommended this place and I had it bookmarked for a while. I finally got the opportunity to visit recently. Upon arriving, there was one table with customers and we were finally seated. The interior was sort of dark but a nice jazz/ blues setting. The musicians are performing on the weekends. We ordered the sterling classic and the king George waffles n chicken. The waffle was thick batter and the chicken was seasoned good. It was crispy and flavorful. I actually liked the boneless tender better than the leg n thigh that was served. We ordered the orange juice but it was that Minute Maid stuff and not freshly squeezed that I thought it would be. Cozy and inviting. This family run restaurant is great place for brunch. Very unique experience and worth the wait. We went on a Sunday morning with a small group to celebrate a friend's birthday. Unfortunately, they do don't accept reservations so there was a bit of a wait to be seated. The reception area offers comfortable seating and is nicely decorated and while you are waiting the you get to witness beautiful plates and wonderful aromas coming from the kitchen to the dining area. It's important to realize that they make everything from scratch and all meals are made to order. If you're looking for a quick in and out dining experience this is probably not your place. But if you're willing to be patient, your patience will be rewarded with some incredible Southern comfort style home cooking. It's also a BYO so grab something for a brunch cocktail and enjoy the company you're with while you wait. Our server was one of the 4 brothers who operate the place and he advised us that the short rib dinner would take longer than the breakfast meals normally do so we were prepared to wait for our meals so we could all eat together. When that short rib on the bone appeared on the table (think tomahawk looking appearance) everyone's jaw dropped. It was served with mac and cheese, candied yams and the best collard greens anyone at the table had ever had. Outstanding. The rest of us got breakfast meals and they were all delicious. The French toast was perfectly cooked, fluffy, crispy and served with eggs and bacon. Chicken and waffles were banging according to the birthday girl. Spicy shrimp in bayou sauce over grits was creamy and had tons of flavor. My wife ordered the Uncle Bud Pancake which covered the large plate and was served with eggs and bacon. Unfortunately, her meal was delayed, but without even asking they comped her breakfast due to the delay. I really can't say enough about their food, everything was fantastic. We arrived at 11:30 and seated around noon and we left the table around 1:30. They ran out of a few things on the menu but it's a small place that is only open from Thursday through Sunday. Since everything is scratch made it makes sense that they might run out of a few desserts as I would not expect they want leftovers on a Sunday that they wouldn't be able to serve the next weekend. For anyone complaining in their reviews that the service is slow, you're not getting what this experience is supposed to be. Maybe we're all just used to faster service because most restaurants do a lot of pre prepping. And if you're a large restaurant that's a necessity. However, this cozy place is transparent on their menu that their meals take some time to prepare and I wouldn't trade the quality of the food I enjoyed for the sake of having it served faster. This was the best southern food I have ever had!! The service was attentive and quick and staff were very welcoming!! I started the meal with the Uncle Bud pancake and let me just say it was the best pancake I have ever had in my life!!! Then, I tried the grits. They were buttery and delicious. Next, I tried the biscuit. It was INCREDIBLE! Fluffy, buttery, and pure heaven!! Finally, I tried the fried shrimp on top of the grits. I didn't know the food could get any better, but somehow it did. The shrimp was so flavorful and fantastic! I finally returned here after my first visit several years ago. The menu appeared to be a little bigger than I remembered, and the prices remained fairly low given the current landscape. This time I ordered the spicy Bayou shrimp and grits. I tried this my last visit, and it was still very good, but not as great as I wrote in my previous review. There were 5 shrimp present, and it came with 2 eggs as well as a biscuit. I opted for over easy eggs. The sauce had a slight kick, but nothing too spicy. The grits were creamy and perfectly cooked. I also tried the mountain boulevard classic which came with a sweet potato waffle and three crispy chicken wings. The waffle was solid as the sweet potato was easily noticeable. First thing First, the food here was great! Chicken and shrimp fried to perfection. The sweet potato waffle was okay, personally I like my waffles a little softer with a bit of crunch around the edges but that's just me. The biscuit was out of this world, mine was warm and literally melted in my mouth. If you eat it with the scrambled eggs, it taste like heaven on earth. Noooowww the bad unfortunately, the service here is not that great. The greeter can use some customer service lessons with greeting and talking to people. They can definitely use more help and they need more help. There was one waiter for at least 6 tables and even though he tried he could not give everyone his undivided attention. I wanted to like this place more than I did. Perhaps this place is inconsistent based on so many loving this place but so many being dissatisfied. If a few things changed if probably rate it higher. Food was tasty overall, other than the Mac and cheese which had some kind of funkiness to it. Not sure if it was seasoning, the cheese, or something about the water. I liked that one of the owners sat down next to us to take our order. It was friendlier than the overall sense from the others that they were getting work down and we were slowing them down! They serve homemade ice teas and lemonade. Everything is in the sweet side, so nothing really for someone who needs to be careful with sugar. However, more importantly is they there was a funky smell to the tea. It tasted fine, but if we sniffed it, there was a sulfur smell. Not sure if it was the ice or water or something else but made it less appetizing. On leaving, they must have been preparing for dinner as it was very hard to get attention so we could leave. I had to tell family to go to the car so I could try to track down someone in the kitchen to help me. When I did, I got a whiff of that sulphur smell coming from the kitchen as well. They need to figure that out. It's affecting the tea and I don't know what else. I could imagine it would be neat to be here for a night of jazz on the small stage up front. A lot of possibilities. I was going to another location in the shopping center and saw this soul food place hidden within. I looked in the window saw people sitting and went inside to see the place and ask for a menu, business card or something to remember the place to check out in the future. I went inside. The customers waiting were crowding the doorway and refused to move. I walked to an unattended counter and an older gentleman perhaps in his late 40's or early 50's with salt and pepper beard, wisked past with menus taken from a table (after the diners ordered) and placed them with the rest. Since NO ONE was at the counter to greet me, I greeted the man as he wisked past, apologized for bothering him when the place was busy (keep in mind I AM the customer) and asked for a menu or business card to remember the place in the future. The man frustratedly and hurriedly replied, everything is online and walked away. No check us out later, thanks for stopping in, barely any eye contact. I have been meaning to get to this restaurant for a while and finally got the opportunity. I ordered my meal of chicken and waffles online for about $17. When I arrived at first I couldn't find exactly where the place was because I didn't see a sign. I parked and walked in the plaza and I found it. I walked up and they had the entrance blocked by a fan because they weren't having people come in. The man told me he would be right with me. He asked if I was picking up and I told him my name. Extremely disappointed. Ordered a buffalo chicken wrap, a cajun chicken parm sandwich and two coffees. It took OVER AN HOUR before the food came out. The wrap was very small and didn't even come with the sweet potato fries written on the menu, came out with regular fries. At this point, I didn't care since I was so hungry from waiting. Food was average. The bill was brought out and it was over $50! They automatically include 25% gratuity, which from the lack of service we received, was way too much. I randomly found this breakfast spot while visiting home. We got here and there were loads of people outside so we knew for sure it would be awhile till we ate. I dined at 4 Brothers for breakfast on 2/28. I honestly don't like to give negative reviews but this was a truly disappointing dining experience. I made a reservation for 6 people on Yelp, but I also was planning to bring my 2 year old daughter. I tried to call multiple times the day before to let them know I would also have a child, but no one answered. Their voicemail instructs you to make reservations on Yelp or take out orders on door dash. I honestly did not think much of this until we arrived and they would not give us a high chair for my daughter. Instead instructing us to sit her in the booth. This was not a great way to start, but from there it got worse. A gentleman came by to take our drink orders. We ordered 3 drinks other than the water. But as we were ordering them he started to walk away to talk to another table (this is something he actually did multiple times during the meal). I figured he got the orders anyway. However, we didn't receive our drinks and another gentleman came to take our food order. We asked about the drinks and we requested a 4th drink. We were told this gentleman can't take our drink order and to let the other know. The first gentleman returned to our table and scolded us for trying to order drinks from the food waiter (maybe I am missing something, but I have never been to a restaurant that operates this way). He was very rude about it. And made everyone at the table feel very uncomfortable. We did get our drinks and then ordered our food from the food waiter. He was not rude, but he was not very helpful or friendly either. If we asked questions he would give short answers and not explain them at all. The food took longer than expected to come out, which normally would be a small inconvenience, but only added to this uncomfortable experience. One of the guests I was dining with wanted to order takeout for a friend at home. So in the middle of our meal we asked the waiter if we could order. She was told "you can order when your meal is done and go wait in the car. We need to open the table". Considering the food seemed to take awhile to cook it made perfect sense to order ahead of time so it would be ready when we left. The waiter was extremely rude about it and not helpful. We had to argue with him to put the order in. When we were leaving we asked about the status of this take out order in which the manager was very rude again. There were doordash drivers waiting in the lobby for takeout as well and they told us that service here is always slow and they are always rude! When the take out order was received they even cooked the burger medium well when we requested medium rare. I personally think that service is a huge part of the meal. The staff made the entire experience awkward and uncomfortable for every guest at our table. It is unfortunate because I actually did enjoy the meal. I would have given 4/5 stars on food quality and taste alone. But the entire experience was truly tainted. Not sure how I like all the darkness on a sunny Friday. I like the sunlight. When having breakfast. So I had to settle into that blue setting. They have a live band Sat and Sunday 11 to 3ish. Supposed to be pretty good I am told. I will come check it out and let you know more on the live bands. Well had 9:30 reservations. And at 9:30 the door was locked. Someone came to the door and said give them 10-15 more mins to get things set up. Not sure when my last post on this place was. But it was when it first opened. I would have hoped the on time open would be a fixture for such a business. I was told this is not uncommon. The food and beverage. The sweet tea was off the chain. Glass 2 and 3 he had them fill my glass up with ice so it watered down some. But the good tea taste didn't hide behind the sugar I had the turkey bacon and turkey sausage omelet with cheddar cheese. This was really good. The home fries were excelent. And that biscuit was really good. They offer no strawberry jelly. Only grape The French toast was just ok. Two in a short stack. The spicy shrimp and grits were good I was told. Said they always get them. Wish I had put my flash on for all the photos with the blue setting. This is a hangout for the before gold guys. Works right into their day. But the lighting is like a date night setting even at 10AM. THEY PLAYED GREAT OLD SCHOOL R&B in the air as you ate. The food was fantastic. The chicken was so flavorful. The crunch is what you want on your chicken. I also had the waffle. It tasted yummy. I can only imagine what an in-restaurant waffle is like. It's probably the most tasty waffle in the area. The chicken is most definitely one of the most delicious chicken I have ever had. Now the Mac and cheese, it's nothing to write home about. Taste like stoffer's. I really would be interested to see what their real Mac and cheese taste like. I have to try the in restaurant experience. read more
