This review is long overdue, but the wait has allowed me to speak from experience, not only of the great service from Devin and the whole 3rdGen team, but of the fabulous Mitsubishi systems they offer. 3rdGen replaced my old, inefficient gas furnace with a five-zone mini-split system and disposed of my old equipment and ducting material all at a VERY fair price. Another company proposed a FAR higher price to simply install a heat pump on my existing ductwork - which would have been a disaster for my PG&E bills. The new system gives me lovely, extremely clean and quiet heating AND cooling, and saves me a lot of money by allowing me to use it just in the areas of my home that I'm occupying. No more sleeping in a hot room in a heat wave! I love it. The installation took a few days and the design of my old house presented some challenges, but Devin and the 3rdGen team did a great job with the work and kept things tidy. I've decided that there are type of person that gets things done. It is always so wonderful when one finds that in someone who doing work on one's house. I found Pelican Plumbers who quickly and efficiently fix things that others want to replace. I found All Ground Electrical who do very, very clean electrical work, that I know I can trust. And now, in the same category of excellence, I found 3rdGen Heating and Cooling, who figured out what was wrong with my HVAC, offered to fix it, but when I said I wanted a heat pump for one of the floors of my house, figured out how to make this work. So a few weeks later (my situation was not an emergency as I still had heat) they came and fixed the HVAC, capped off one of the floors and installed a split heat pump, all within the space of a few hours. One caveat is that they are very busy! But this is NOT a bad thing. Definitely worth waiting for. read more

We found a brand-new (supposedly) free stainless steel KitchenAid dishwasher on the NextDoor app and after installing it and running a few loads, it all of sudden had some issues. This was less than a week of having it but since we didn't know the history figured it was smart to have a professional come look at it. My husband was able to make a same-day appointment & we were given a 5-7pm timeframe. The technician showed up around 7:00pm, apologized for being a little late (we didn't care - it's prime traffic time anyway) and got to work right away. He was a younger man who learned the appliance business from his father. He was very respectful of privacy, noise, and didn't mind my curious little terrier Harry watching him while he worked. I don't know much about appliances but he explained things to me in lamens terms and luckily got it working. Unfortunately, we're still having issues with it but he did warn us if that happens it most likely needs a new switchboard. We will definitely be calling him to come out again and make that repair. The charge was $95, very reasonable and worth it. Their main offices are out of Hayward now but we live near Half Moon Bay and they service most of the Bay Area but we so appreciated the willingness to drive out to our neck of the woods. Recently I had a problem with my sink and I've had a problem with my ecobee furnace thermostat. Devon, who was my service representative, quickly figured out the sink problem --in literally 10 minutes. Unfortunately I didn't know how to find the E codes because it doesn't have a digital readout. He explained why and how to find them. While he was there I had him work on my thermostat which I had labored with for quite a while because it was getting no charge from the C wire. I had had a carrier furnace representative in about a year or so ago and he couldn't figure it out and thought it was the circuit board on the furnace. But he never bothered to check the voltage on the furnace! We finally figured out that it was a damaged wire running between the thermostat and the furnace. Devon was tenacious and very professional. This is the first time I've used this company, but I found them to be responsive and the work to be good quality. Based on that I would recommend them. read more

My wall furnace heater has been not turning on. I searched and google for HVAC service and came across 3rd Gen. I called them up and they called me back. Discussed over the phone briefly the issue and scheduled a diagnosis same day. Devin, the technician assigned, was very friendly and courteous and mindful of the covid protocol. He was immediately able to find the issue and discussed with me the issue & how to fix it. He on the spot gave the quotation including my other request which is to replace my thermostat into an automatic/digital one. They had a reasonable pricing so I had them all source the parts and the thermostat and start the work the following day. Come the repair day, Devin is still the assigned technician and was easy to work with. He is very detailed and made sure to test if there is any gas leak as he fixed the heater. He also made sure that all my gas appliances (i.e. water heater) is still working fine. I definitely recommend 3rd Gen for any of your HVAC works/repair. read more

My 20 year old Munchkin heater stopped working. I called at least 4 other companies including the one which installed my heater. The technicians simply looked at my heater and declared that they did not know how to fix it. Some claimed that they will come back with an estimate for pair but never did. Devin was amazing. Our Air condition stopped blowing cool air last week. We initially called another Heating/Cooling repair shop. Our range hood failed in the last power outage. I checked the circuit breaker; it was fine. I tried to find the fuse for the hood, but couldn't find it.
