Beautiful! Absolutely stunning in presentation for guests when you're having a dinner party -and…read moredelicious! My pastries were made to perfection. I rarely give glowing reviews of perfection but this little shop deserves it! Upon entrance, you'll notice it's a small shop with a smaller selection of pastries than some other bakeries around. But look closer and you'll see several intricate items, such as chocolates in the shape of a ball with swirls of color. It's near Christmas now so I'm unsure of the selection during the non-holiday season. Currently there are so many options for gifts. Ordered a latte (really good) to go with the lemon tart and tonka pastries. If you do the same, I recommend consuming the Tonka first. It's super rich and creamy in texture but lighter in flavor. Good on its own, but difficult to taste the flavor next to the knock your socks off lemon tart. The lemon tart was the perfect blend of sugar & tartness. It was all so good that we left with two more, plus two boxes of petite pastries, some macarons (these were alright but nothing close to Laduree -a bit too sweet and too saturated with coloring), and chocolates. Additionally, the gentleman that helped us was really friendly and spoke English.

I'm not sure if the term cafe in Germany is the same as it is in Australia, but then again you do…read morehave cafes that only serve coffee while others have whole meals available (as is also the case in Germany). This was one that I discovered while looking for a place to grab some breakfast (and having a little bit of bad luck with others either only doing coffee, or being shut). I ended up having the Kleiner Frankfurt Frustuck (of the small Frankfurt Breakfast, but since the name of the meal was in German I should use the German, not that I can actually used all the letters that the German uses). It was interesting - a brotwurst, a bagel, and some mustard, which was interesting because to me mustard is not something that I usually put on my breakfast. Still, when in Germany ... Oh, I should also mention that the staff were really nice, and also true to form in Germany cash is king.

Freshly baked cakes and tarts, done on the premises - usually a selection of at least 10, and done to perfection, with amazing presentation. Don't know who their pastry chef is, but the person deserves an award! Coffees, teas and so on in all varieties, and served perfectly. Friendly staff, and a nice modern edge to the whole thing in terms of decor, and small touches, like free 'parfum' in the bathrooms from a one-off Italian boutique round the corner. A real asset for Mainz, and a must for visitors who want to see what all the fuss around German cakes is about - this place will answer that!

They can do table service if you dine in but you can also just order and pay at the counter. It seems very popular with the hipster crowd but based on my experience it can be a welcoming place for anyone. The two baristas were both cheerful and patient with my not-good German. The menu is very vegan friendly - there are vegan options for sandwiches and baked goods, and there's oat milk for drinks. I got a Blumenkohl panini, a Mandelkuchen, and a Chai Latte. I was a fan of the panini, the smashed cauliflower in was actually very flavourful with curry-esque spices. No complaints on the latte. The Mandelkuchen fell short of my expectations, I thought it was on the dry side, although the strong almond flavour was nice. If I had been able to see a cross section of this before I ordered, I would've gotten something else - the cake hadn't been cut into yet when I ordered. The other cake slices looked better. Everything is priced reasonably - my total was about €14. It's the kind of place I'd probably go to all the time if I lived here.

I had already marked this place off as a place to grab something to eat, however it quickly turned out that they don't do breakfast - it is basically a coffee shop that has some cakes but that is about it. The other problem is that it is located on the fringes of the city. Still, it is a nice cafe, and there is a really cool church nearby as well. Oh, and the staff, and coffee, were nice as well.
