She picked us up on Sunday at Newark Liberty Airport and drove us to Red Hook in Dutchess County. On Saturday we took the reverse trip. Communication (text, phone, and in-person conversations) was always easy and direct. She texted us with specific instructions for how to find her at the airport. She drove calmly, competently, and very safely. She checked in by text two days prior to our return trip, and to be safe, we arranged a pickup 4 hours before the time we wanted to be at the airport due to the heavy snowfall (8 inches) expected the next day. Both trips went smoothly and the cars used felt safe and reliable. We trusted Nancy and will trust her or any of her other drivers again for our future trips to New York. John is very courteous and knowledgeable in many subjects. He asked if temp in vehicle was OK several times to ensure our comfort. Mike was super prompt in returning my text at 11:00pm, assured me he had availability and we'd touch base in the morning. True to his word, we booked the car in the morning and he gave me a very competitive rate. Didn't tack on last minute fees. Done, texted confirmation number. Gave me name of my driver, Allison, who touched base 5 min later with her cell number. Super prompt, funny and friendly, riding with Allison was a pleasure. A key thing to note: take your cues from the client. She didn't start chatting until I did. I'm from New Orleans and work in the hospitality industry there, handling conventions with 10,000-30,000 in attendance. I book about 250 private car service for clients a year. There are a few key things that are expected from a private car service that are unbendable: reliability, communication, cleanliness and polite manners in drivers, who understand it's not about them it's about the client. Likewise from a client: tip the driver and tip in cash. If you get good service, show it by tipping more than 20% of the fare. It has been a very long time that I rode a commuter rail, but nevertheless after ten (10) years of…read moretrekking from Queens, NYC to Long Island to visit my former love I am no stranger to commuter rail daily trips. Unfortunately I have not been able to wanderlust in years which I am profoundly trapped in my locality with extreme cabin fever, and COVID-19 pandemic hindered travelling further, but I found a way out of NYC through MTA Metro North as a drifter in wanderlust. This MTA Metro-North Beacon Station is indeed clean. It is situated on the MTR Metro-North Hudson Line via the Henry Hudson River with scenic views of salt marshes, luxurious yacht boats, but no jet ski, kayak or paddle boats. It was a nice ride without any boisterous ruckus or rude disruption by fellow passengers. My ride was actually a very phlegmatic disposition. I usually sit alone for COVID-19 compliance of six feet distancing and usually silently cry due to my profound grief. It is a direct ride without the need for a transfer. The Hudson Line train passes the Broadway Bridge in the Bronx, and the New Tappan Zee Bridge. Unfortunately by night fall the view of the Hudson River during the entire train ride emits absolute no visibility as it is complete utter darkness. A one-way off peak ticket from Grand Central Terminal to Beacon for one adult is a whooping $17.50 (2021 era price) which is blamed on 2021 national inflation rate accelerated to 5.4%. Whoa! The underground passage is dingy very prone to flooding with inadequate drains as the underground passage is filled with pondering water on the ground with minimal lighting to provide pedestrian visibly for safety and less appealing similar to the NYC subway stations. There is a paid parking lot which appears to contain large amount of spaces. This station is ADA accessible with a ramp and elevator. There is a nice welcome signage of "Welcome to Beacon, NY" with a hand drawn area map. The train arrivals/departures at scheduled intervals of half hour or one hour for peak and off peak times. There is a small indoor, standing only, enclosure on the platform for passengers to seek temporary shelter from the elements of rain, snow, or extreme artic cold.

But it lacks the charm of some of the stations on the Harlem Line. Heck, it isn't even as charming as Peekskill, just a few towns south. It wasn't that clean and the sign wasn't well maintained. Plus, it kind of smelled like urine. I do not think there was any correlation between that detail and the fact that my friends and I had just spent 8 hours drinking beer before waiting for the return train to NYC, but I could be wrong about that. In any case, it was unpleasant. But don't let that stop you from visiting Beacon, it is a lovely town, pee notwithstanding.
