During the day, Mike and/or John are available to troubleshoot anything for you and give wonderful advice on local attractions. I tried some that were not on the list and they are as follows: -Tin Box: If you're craving sushi on the island, this is a great place to check out. -Green beach: Rumored to have conch shells but I guess I wasn't that lucky. We had also gone post light rain, so the long road there was covered in puddles of unknown depths. Would highly recommend a generous application of bug repellent if you go. We were swarmed by a little cloud of gnats and I got little non-itchy polka dots on my arms by the time I was through -Seagate Horseback Riding: Only a good idea if you're intermediate to advance in horseback riding. The horses are not lead or strung together. There were also parts of the ride where the horses seemed to be trained to go a a trot. At these speeds, I almost slid off the horse! AVOID STAYING HERE BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY!!!!…read more While I am aware of how hard the travel industry has been hit due to Covid it is saddening to see that customer service has been affected this greatly and my party and myself will not be returning to stay at Hix accommodations around the world. This is why... My party and I unfortunately had the worst experience when we stayed at Hix Island House in Vieques and strongly advise potential vacationers to book at other accommodations in Vieques (Such as El Blok). We felt that the listing on Expedia where we booked our stay through was very misleading since none of the amenities mentioned were actually available, such as the pool and yoga. The property felt like a ghost town with us only being able to communicate with the manager via phone as even reception hours were inaccurate. In addition, the only other guests staying at the time mentioned they received an email that the pool was broken and we were never communicated until we brought this up to management. To make matters worse, my friend had an injury happen at Hix Island House in the horse floor fence. While it had a sign to hold onto the rail, there was a pole sticking out of the wall that the rail was on which made my friend have to walk around the pole and have her fall through the fence. While we booked for 2 nights we only stayed one night after this ordeal and when we requested a full refund due to all the reasons above, the hotel through Expedia only approved a partial refund. Even after pleading our case to why a full refund should be given no acknowledgment/ at the bare minimum an apology was made by management of Hix Island House or Expedia.

The island is chain-free and has strongly resisted development by outside forces. People here still get around using wrangled horses and to get chinese food you have to ask someone to bring it over on the plane. With such underdevelopment your best bet for staying on this island paradise is a rental home - with most places going for quite high prices and for a week minimum. Goodnight Moon is the home I stayed in, although I should add that it was as an overnight guest and not as a paying client. Only a few minutes walk from the Malecon (the strip) in a lazy part of Esperanza, this house is a great place to be. It's spacious with huge bedrooms, A/C and a kitchen lounge with a ton of DVDs. The gem of this location is the patio/verandah at the front where you can chill out al-fresco in the wonderful warm air. It's a shame that the firm looking after the property don't allow you to stay just a night or two - but Vieques is worth more than just that. Do yourself a favor and get a group of your friends together and come for the week in paradise. Mention Yelp and you will probably get a discount too *wink*

You could stay here and relax at the pool and not regret staying inside the compound walls. Even when other guests are staying in different apartments there is plenty of room and everyone blends seamlessly. The island itself is rustic and remote. It is a unique experience, not a busy fishing vacation spot or overwhelmed by spectacular resorts and tourists but a slow and sleepy relaxing experience. Dont expect much from the nightlife- do your drinking at the beach during the day and at dinner. There are some great restaurant- I especially like the Tin Box and Duffys. Breakfast at BellyButtons is a must and a cold drink there anytime in the afternoon is a treat. The beaches are some of the most beautiful I have ever been to. I prefer La Chiva but you cant go wrong anywhere. After a few visits you will meet many ex pats who will be there every time you return and always willing to have a drink with you. I cant wait to return to Casa De Claire.

The host was absolutely amazing and so friendly. He let us use his car when we needed to go to the airport and he picked us up from the dock when we arrived. The place was very clean and the pool was amazing. It has an outdoor kitchen with a fridge that had drinks in there (he told us we were welcome to any that we wanted), table, chairs and grill. We were there for a friends' wedding so there was a good size group that were split up in other houses and when we mentioned that to our host, he told us we were more than welcome to invite everyone over to hang out at the pool. They were very gracious and when we were making the reservations prior to our vacation, Claire always responded quickly and answered any question we had. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who loves to just sit back and relax and enjoy themselves. Oh..we also had fun picking the mangos and eating them while watching the horses that would just waltz in and graze behind the house. I will post pictures if I'm able to.
