We recently stayed at the Rainforest Inn during our trip to Puerto Rico, and I want to share our…read morehonest experience both the good and the bad. This is simply our experience, and I'm not interested in debating or defending how we felt. To start with the positives: before booking, I read many reviews and was excited about supporting what appeared to be a small business run by a husband and wife. The property itself is absolutely beautiful , truly breathtaking scenery. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and surprisingly cool despite there being no air conditioning. The cooling system on the beds was amazing. We also did the hike on the property, which was beautiful and definitely one of the highlights of our stay. The wife was incredibly pleasant, welcoming, and knowledgeable about hospitality. She made us feel comfortable from the beginning. Unfortunately, several interactions with the husband left us feeling uncomfortable throughout our stay. Each morning, coffee and tea were offered to guests. One morning, since we planned to hike, we politely declined coffee multiple times. Despite saying no several times, the offer continued in a way that felt oddly tense, as though our declining offended him. During conversation, he openly mentioned that his wife often tells him he comes across as rude. He also praised her hospitality skills, and honestly, I completely agreed with him on that point. What really unsettled me happened when we were signing waivers for the hike. He handed me the waiver with a pen attached. After I passed the paperwork to my husband, my husband reached for the pen, and instead of handing it to him directly, the pen was tossed toward him. Whether intentional or not, the interaction immediately rubbed me the wrong way and changed the energy for me completely. For context, we are a Black couple, and while I cannot say what anyone's intentions were, some of the interactions throughout our stay felt uncomfortable enough that it became hard not to notice. Especially in the way my husband was treated at times. Another example: he offered to send horseback riding information to me. Since I didn't have my phone nearby, I asked twice for the information to be sent to my husband instead. Despite that, the information was still sent to me. The final issue involved the laundry area. We were washing a small load of clothes and some towels during the allowed hours. A few minutes into drying, he opened the dryer himself, removed my personal clothing including bras and underwear -- and left them sitting on top of the washer. He later sent a text saying the dryer was overloaded and making noise, although the load was not packed tightly and was smaller than the load left behind by the previous guests. What bothered me most was not the concern about the machine, but the fact that my personal undergarments were handled instead of simply asking us to adjust the load ourselves. None of these incidents individually caused a confrontation because we chose to remain respectful and calm throughout our stay. However, taken together, they left a stain on what otherwise could have been an excellent experience. Afterward, I revisited some of the lower rated reviews and noticed that several other guests also mentioned discomfort with the husband's demeanor and communication style. I also noticed responses to criticism often seemed defensive. Again, this review is not written to argue with the owners or invite debate from strangers online. This was our experience, and no one gets to tell us how we should feel about the interactions we had during our stay.

Surrounded by nature this place offers you a space to restart, refresh and rejuvenate your body and soul. From the moment you arrive, the atmosphere is one of serenity and tranquility accompanied with the most amazing and attentive staff. The rooms are stunning with a rustic cozy vibe. I've stayed in different cabins but my favorite is the Invisible House. It has the most beautiful sunlight coming thru the windows in the mornings and afternoons. The outside shower might be one of my favorite things. The beds are so confortable. If you are one of those who wake up active like me, you can start your morning by stretching and moving your body with a yoga class designed for all levels in the most beautiful space. The class leaves you vitalized for the rest of the day. Then my favorite part of the day while staying at La Finca, the Ayurvedic breakfast. The breakfast not only looks beautiful to the eye but also the flavors are delicious and healthy. Very nourishing. There is tea and cafe available for you all day. After that, you can spend the day at La Finca spa that offers a variety of Ayurvedic treatments, massages, acupuncture and different rituals. Or go the the pool area at the Pavilion where you can relax, read and sunbathe. But if you feel more adventurous you could dedicate the afternoon to exploring the stunningly varied landscapes of Vieques. By renting a golf cart you can go beach hooping around the island. Vieques has some of the most beautiful and crystal clear beaches in the Caribbean. I try to come here once a year so Im always looking forward to coming back.

This intrigue quickly turned to enamour, because I was really impressed by how delicious the meal was, while eating clean and healing the body. I've since seen that they offer a three day Ayurvedic Reset retreat! This would definitely be something that I would like to do in the future.

Everything is walking distance so there's no need to drive (or you can Uber). If you absolutely have to pick up your rental car right off the bat, you will have to park you car overnight in a garage or a lot. I've always wanted to spend more time in Luquillo, and after seeing the consistently high ratings on Expedia and TripAdvisor--along with its beachfront location--I decided to give it a try. The property itself is older, but don't let that deter you. The rooms were exceptionally clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, which made for a very relaxing stay. I loved the balcony and watching the ocean from so close! Beautiful sunrise too. Check-in is more laid-back, so don't expect a traditional front desk experience with someone always present. That said, the communication was excellent. I really appreciated that they reached out via text ahead of time to ask about my arrival--it was a thoughtful touch. I arrived earlier than the standard check-in time (as I had mentioned), and there were no issues at all. When I rang the bell, a staff member promptly came out to assist me and greeted me with a warm smile. There's also a very popular restaurant and bar on-site with an amazing-looking menu. Unfortunately, we didn't get the chance to try it this time, but it's definitely on the list for our next visit. The location is another big plus--easy to find, right on the beach, and conveniently close to a Walgreens and other nearby beaches to explore. Overall, this was a great experience, and I would absolutely stay here again. Thank you for a wonderful visit!

If you read nothing else below in my review, just know this: I've stayed at quite a few B&Bs, and I…read morecan say without hesitation that Casa Encanto is my ultimate favorite for food, accommodations, and warm hospitality. ALL-TIME BEST B&B! Two days before my wife and I arrived at Casa Encanto, Hurricane Ernesto formed right over this side of Puerto Rico, knocking out power across the island. Trees and power lines were down everywhere, rivers flooded, and bridges in El Yunque National Forest were washed out. Despite this, canceling was not an option. We had a 4x4 Jeep Wrangler and a determination to enjoy our 25th wedding anniversary. When we pulled up to Casa Encanto, Lisa and Ryan greeted us with frozen mojitos in custom strawed Casa Encanto Yeti Ramblers--It tasted unlike every mojito I have ever had before, though surely it was one of the most delicious frozen concoctions I have ever sucked down a tube! During our tour, Ryan confirmed that Luquillo had lost power but assured us it wouldn't be an issue at Casa Encanto due to their solar panels and Tesla batteries. He was right--the house remained fully powered for our entire stay. When you stay here, it's just you and your significant other--no other guests on the property. You'll have the entire private downstairs floor of this three-story house, right next to your own swimming pool and rainforest gardens. The space is fully equipped with everything you need, including a kitchen that you'll likely never use, thanks to the incredible meals provided daily. Trust me, the portions are generous--you'll definitely have enough leftovers for a second meal. Speaking of the food, Lisa and Ryan treated us to five incredible meals at Casa Encanto: Coconut Guava Monte Cristo: Brioche dipped in coconut custard, turned into French toast, and stuffed with Swiss cheese, ham, and turkey. Topped with powdered sugar and a guava sauce drizzle. Lisa thoughtfully served the coconut on the side for me. It was simply incredible. Lump Crab & Shrimp Cakes Benedict: A poached egg with lemon butter caper sauce atop a crab and shrimp cake on sautéed spinach and an English muffin. Quite possibly the best crab cake I've ever had. Breaded Breakfast Cereal Steak w/Biscuits & Sausage Gravy: Milanesa steak breaded in Kellogg's Corn Flakes, pan-fried, and served with biscuits and sausage gravy. This meal broke into my top five chicken fried steaks list, the only one outside Texas to do so! El Yunque Omelette: A three-egg omelet with sautéed tomatoes, asparagus, baby spinach, portobellos, red onions, poblanos, and cilantro, filled with sharp cheddar and topped with avocado slices and spicy mayo. To be honest, my wife got this and I never took bite, but she loved it. Looked amazing. Steak & Lobster Claws Dinner: As a surprise bonus meal for staying four nights at Casa Encanto, we were served an amazing steak dinner... coconut mashed potatoes, roasted mushrooms, Filet Mignon drizzled with au jus, crowned with lobster knuckles in garlic butter, and a triple chocolate mousse cake for dessert. I ate all of my steak and half of my wife's, and it was so freaking perfect that I almost cried. The slice of cake was so good and rich that it took me over two days to finish it. Every breakfast was served with fruit from their orchard and a bellini, and one morning, we opted for the fresh mango smoothie, made with mangos from their orchard. There is so much more to say about Casa Encanto and Ryan & Lisa - I could gush on and on, but I'm going to wrap it up because you probably have stopped reading up to this point, anyway... On our way checking out, we opted to purchase two of those custom strawed Casa Encanto Yeti Ramblers I mentioned earlier in this review, but on the condition that Lisa include a Piña Colada in them. When I asked Ryan a few days earlier who made the best Piña Colada in Puerto Rico, without reservation he replied, "My wife!" I think he may be wrong, though... That was the best Piña Colada I've had ANYWHERE!

It was colourful, warm and welcoming. Culebra is not an island of big fancy 5 star hotels or casinos and that's just what I were looking for. You feel at home in Culebra the moment you are greeted at the airport by Mark or Terrie and this is something that I have never experienced before. Mark and Terrie were over the top, fantastic hosts. They were more than helpful when it came to suggestions on places to dine, activities to do that day or places to rent a kayak or bike. Not only were they friendly and accommodating but they went above and beyond what you would normally expect from a regular B&B in the states. Their thoughtfulness radiates from them like sunshine on the beach. If my boyfriend or I needed anything at all, Mark and Terrie would make sure they recommended something or got it for us. I went to Culebra during Thanksgiving vacation and wasn't expecting to find a Turkey dinner anywhere. To my surprise, I was invited upstairs to Mark and Terrie's place above the guesthouse for a HUGE feast fit for a king. It was great to converse with other guests, meet their friends from the island and get to know Mark and Terrie. I felt like a true islander that had lived here for years and not just a visitor or a guest. I stayed in the Bougainvillea Room which had a Queen sized bed. Each room at the Palmetto included a private bathroom with a shower, mini-refrigerator, an air conditioner and an alarm clock (very helpful, but we didn't use it much... hehe). They provided clean linens and also offered complementary beach towels, snorkeling gear and GREAT coffee every morning.. and this just names a few of the complementary items offered. Dining out in Culebra was mostly disappointing, so we were glad to be able to prepare some of our own meals. Other common areas include a front patio, a comfy living room, and a shady backyard with a few seating areas. Beach towels were provided as well as serviceable snorkel masks. We enjoyed chatting with guests from the Pacific Northwest and Sweden. You should be aware that there are crowing roosters in the neighborhood who do not limit themselves to mornings. I suspect you will hear them anywhere you stay on the island because wild chickens are everywhere. If you want to have the experience of what it might be like to live in Culebra, staying at the Palmetto would be a good choice.

Bellavista Bed and Breakfast is the best place to stay on Saint Thomas and let me tell you why. Location: The bed and breakfast is halfway up a sizable hill, so you get a clear view of the cruise ship harbor, the ocean, and all of Charlotte Amelie, the second biggest town on the island. It's far enough away from downtown that you can't really hear it, but close enough that a quick 5 minute walk will get you where you want to go. Facilities: An amazing house with surprisingly strong security; if she didn't point it out to you, you wouldn't notice it at all. The house is very open during the day and locked up tight at night time. The house itself is gorgeous with a lovely open living room and a balcony off the kitchen where Wendy, the owner, serves her amazing breakfasts (more on that later). There is a private deck side pool for when you want to skip coki beach and just be somewhere quiet. The rooms are just what you need, and she keeps them immaculate. Breakfast: Prepared to be blown away. My wife and I are pretty used to hotel continental breakfasts: contrasted with Wendy's food the hotels are serving you rubbish. Wendy prepares beautiful meals with fresh fruit, everything made from scratch, and frequently with self made smoothies. Breakfast isn't something you'd ever expect to be this good; for us it was the best part of everyday, and we had some really good days. Wendy: Yeah she's an amenity all by herself. She's incredibly friendly, very funny, and gives you the most personal service you've ever had. She knows practically everything about the island and what to do, she knows exactly who and when to call for cabs, and on top of this runs the whole B&B almost single handedly. She's one of the nicest people you will ever meet. All in all you're going to be getting an experience better than some of the activities on the island you'll be booking. Wouldn't you rather have an amazing experience you can rely on everyday than just the regular old hotel trip? I would, and I am so glad I stayed here.
