Beautiful house and rooms, delightful patio, warm welcome and delicious breakfast that is made on the spot every day. What else can you ask for..?

Beautifully restored historic bed and breakfast in Old Town San Juan. Thoroughly enjoyed my time here. Excellent breakfast, comfortable beds, excellent location. Highly recommend

If you are looking for an authentic Puerto Rican stay in Old San Juan, this is the place for you! After a long morning of travel we arrived earlier than check-in time and were graciously received by Eddie, one of the owners. Eddie and Tisha are a couple who left the corporate world to start this B&B. Although we were early, Eddie said it wasn't a problem and we could store our luggage and explore the city. He sat down with me and a map (while my husband was returning our rental car)and went over places to eat, local attractions, and things to do. He then asked me to place a pin on a map in their kitchen to show where we were from. It was so cool to see guests from all over the world had stayed there! He then showed me the kitchen and told me to help ourselves to water whenever. Eddie also asked about any dietary restrictions for the morning breakfast (which was delicious.) When we did check-in to our room it was clean and beautiful. It was adorned with local artwork and had 18 foot ceilings! Tisha was once an interior designer and her lovely touch is displayed throughout the house. There is a relaxing open patio with plants to hang out in and have a cup of coffee. My favorite part of this experience is that they allowed their sweet dog Oreo mingle with the guests. I was really missing my dog and to be able to cuddle with Oreo was truly a treat! I woke up early and asked to take Oreo on her morning walk and Eddie was more than happy to let me. Also, if you're not a dog person, no worries, Oreo will only come to you if you approach her, she's the chilliest dog. Again, if you are looking for somewhere authentic and warm to stay, the place for you! I loved chatting with Tisha and Eddie and hearing their story of how they started this lovely establishment and also how they coped during Maria. I also forgot to mention that they have solar panels and are very green. They actually still had power during Maria thanks to the solar panels. Thank you Eddie and Tisha, thanks to you we couldn't have enjoyed OSJ more because of you and your lovely B&B!

Our cab driver recommended this place, so glad he did. We didn't want to pay a lot of money to be at a place where we'd only show up to sleep. When you walk in, there's a steep staircase to the main floor. No lights were turned on, as if the manager was saving energy. The check in was easy, we had called from the cab and asked for availability. Glad they had a room available. The shared bathroom and kitchen were decent, though a bit far from our room. We were hoping for a room with a window, but for reserving same day I guess we can't complain. They do have a balcony which lets you enjoy the sights and sounds of old San Juan. We sat out on the balcony looking over the old Spanish architecture, and enjoying the sounds of the bustling town. This place is ideal for those who wish to save some money and be able to explore the old San Juan without breaking the wallet or stressing out over driving. I'd probably stay here on my next trip to Puerto Rico (unless I stay with old friends on the island). FYI: we experienced this hostel in July 2013. It may have changed.

The gentleman on site only spoke Spanish but you didn't need to worry about that check in was easy and quick and the private room was accommodating. The location and price is perfect for a back packer or someone who needs to sleep at night and see the island during the day. In a very touristy spot so safety isn't an issue and it's mins away from a lot of restaurants and late night bars. Check out at noon allowed me to sleep in and leave my bags while I went for breakfast !!!! If I come back to San Juan I will definetly stay here again.

I've always wanted to spend more time in Luquillo, and after seeing the consistently high ratings on Expedia and TripAdvisor--along with its beachfront location--I decided to give it a try. The property itself is older, but don't let that deter you. The rooms were exceptionally clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, which made for a very relaxing stay. I loved the balcony and watching the ocean from so close! Beautiful sunrise too. Check-in is more laid-back, so don't expect a traditional front desk experience with someone always present. That said, the communication was excellent. I really appreciated that they reached out via text ahead of time to ask about my arrival--it was a thoughtful touch. I arrived earlier than the standard check-in time (as I had mentioned), and there were no issues at all. When I rang the bell, a staff member promptly came out to assist me and greeted me with a warm smile. There's also a very popular restaurant and bar on-site with an amazing-looking menu. Unfortunately, we didn't get the chance to try it this time, but it's definitely on the list for our next visit. The location is another big plus--easy to find, right on the beach, and conveniently close to a Walgreens and other nearby beaches to explore. Overall, this was a great experience, and I would absolutely stay here again. Thank you for a wonderful visit!

I found this B&B after scouring the web and reading the stellar reviews on travel review site. From…read morethe very get-go, I knew that I would have a great experience staying at Casa Castellana. I booked my room through the website and tried to pay for my deposit through the link that was automatically emailed to me. (NOTE: this is a bit of a pain point, but I am not deducting anything for it; the link is finicky and you are probably better off following the PayPal instructions for the 50% deposit). My little sister found a coupon code (low season discount) and Natalia, the owner, was so kind to honor it AFTER I had already booked. I went through a bit of a hassle because the link in the email didn't work but my room was mine through the whole ordeal. When I landed in San Juan, her daughter, Nina, called me to ask if I had made it okay and what time she could expect bf and me. I told her that we were going to get our rental car and head over. Well, we got a bit confused (i.e., lost) on the way and got to see some non-touristy neighborhoods (which is well and fine with me, as I love to see how people actually live somewhere and dislike just confining myself to the "safe" areas for visitors). The skies foreboded of precipitation, but as we pulled up, Nina was close by and opened the gate for our car. We got the Toledo room, which is the only room in the house that has its own private GATED parking space. Score! Nina gave us a tour of the lovely Spanish colonial home and we got settled in our room (we had just a little bit of time before we had to leave for a concert). The room was not huge, but very cozy with its own (high-tech) A/C unit. There was a flat-screen TV and a lovely tiled bathroom off the side with just a shower (which is a non-issue for me, since I don't even remember the last time I've taken a bath). We had a closet, some chests of drawers to put away our stuff (which we didn't do, since we just always leave everything squished in our suitcase). The next morning (and the morning after), we ate breakfast there, which was promptly served at 9 (or a few minutes after, hey, we are in a Caribbean island after all). There was a buffet of fresh tropical fruits, with bread, cheese, some cold cuts to start off with. That first morning, bf and I thought that that was it, so we loaded up with everything on the buffet. Then the plate of scrambled eggs with ham and toasted, buttered bread came out. While we did not completely gorge ourselves with the delicious fare, we were stuffed until dinner. There was also fresh orange juice and local coffee served alongside the meal and while we waited in the mornings for the food to be set up and plated, we nibbled on homemade chocolate chip bread. Delicious and wholesome food, on the whole (I know, chocolate chips may not be the healthiest, for you calorie-counters out there). I would not hesitate to stay here the next time I visit San Juan (one of my absolute favorite cities, mind you) and I really recommend that you do the same. Just as a note, you can walk to Ashford Avenue (or Avenida Ashford) for some shopping and dining options. But you will need a car to get from this Condado neighborhood to Old San Juan (or you can walk the 5 kilometers that bf and I crazily strolled--me in sandals and cursing myself). Have fun and explore this beautiful city!

We then moved to the second floor suite and let me tell you, it is well worth it. Huge bed, cute balcony and a shower big enough to fit an entire football team. The wonderful hosts Natalia and Nina whip up a delicious breakfast every morning with fresh local fruit. I lived in Puerto Rico for 27 years and loved staying here. Definitely coming back again.

We recently stayed at the Rainforest Inn during our trip to Puerto Rico, and I want to share our…read morehonest experience both the good and the bad. This is simply our experience, and I'm not interested in debating or defending how we felt. To start with the positives: before booking, I read many reviews and was excited about supporting what appeared to be a small business run by a husband and wife. The property itself is absolutely beautiful , truly breathtaking scenery. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and surprisingly cool despite there being no air conditioning. The cooling system on the beds was amazing. We also did the hike on the property, which was beautiful and definitely one of the highlights of our stay. The wife was incredibly pleasant, welcoming, and knowledgeable about hospitality. She made us feel comfortable from the beginning. Unfortunately, several interactions with the husband left us feeling uncomfortable throughout our stay. Each morning, coffee and tea were offered to guests. One morning, since we planned to hike, we politely declined coffee multiple times. Despite saying no several times, the offer continued in a way that felt oddly tense, as though our declining offended him. During conversation, he openly mentioned that his wife often tells him he comes across as rude. He also praised her hospitality skills, and honestly, I completely agreed with him on that point. What really unsettled me happened when we were signing waivers for the hike. He handed me the waiver with a pen attached. After I passed the paperwork to my husband, my husband reached for the pen, and instead of handing it to him directly, the pen was tossed toward him. Whether intentional or not, the interaction immediately rubbed me the wrong way and changed the energy for me completely. For context, we are a Black couple, and while I cannot say what anyone's intentions were, some of the interactions throughout our stay felt uncomfortable enough that it became hard not to notice. Especially in the way my husband was treated at times. Another example: he offered to send horseback riding information to me. Since I didn't have my phone nearby, I asked twice for the information to be sent to my husband instead. Despite that, the information was still sent to me. The final issue involved the laundry area. We were washing a small load of clothes and some towels during the allowed hours. A few minutes into drying, he opened the dryer himself, removed my personal clothing including bras and underwear -- and left them sitting on top of the washer. He later sent a text saying the dryer was overloaded and making noise, although the load was not packed tightly and was smaller than the load left behind by the previous guests. What bothered me most was not the concern about the machine, but the fact that my personal undergarments were handled instead of simply asking us to adjust the load ourselves. None of these incidents individually caused a confrontation because we chose to remain respectful and calm throughout our stay. However, taken together, they left a stain on what otherwise could have been an excellent experience. Afterward, I revisited some of the lower rated reviews and noticed that several other guests also mentioned discomfort with the husband's demeanor and communication style. I also noticed responses to criticism often seemed defensive. Again, this review is not written to argue with the owners or invite debate from strangers online. This was our experience, and no one gets to tell us how we should feel about the interactions we had during our stay.

Our wedding was in December, and it's now almost February--still no response from the venue or the owner. The issue? We paid extra for a higher-tier bar package, only to find that our bar signage was hidden, and the bartender had no idea how to make any of the drinks. Classic cocktails like Old Fashioneds and Negronis were made poorly (when they were made at all), and in the end, most guests resorted to drinking only wine, champagne, or beer--completely negating the premium package we paid for. We made menus for the drinks and they magically disappeared. To make matters worse, we were previously assured via email that the bartender was experienced, only to later find out that they were hired the day before the event. This level of unprofessionalism is unacceptable. We reached out multiple times to resolve this fairly, including requesting a partial refund for a service we didn't receive. We were met with silence. Someone on Instagram keeps telling us that "someone will reach out," yet here we are, still waiting. If you're considering this venue, be warned: they have no problem taking your money, but when an issue arises, they disappear. We expected better, and at the very least, a response. Mind you, the location is spectacular but the fact that they hired someone without experience to work a wedding is shady and unfair to the guests and couple who paid out of pocket to make this an experience. It was an experience but not one that we smile about when it comes to talking about the bar saturation . 90% of guests are all industry people. Thanks for not responding. I tried.

Bellavista Bed and Breakfast is the best place to stay on Saint Thomas and let me tell you why. Location: The bed and breakfast is halfway up a sizable hill, so you get a clear view of the cruise ship harbor, the ocean, and all of Charlotte Amelie, the second biggest town on the island. It's far enough away from downtown that you can't really hear it, but close enough that a quick 5 minute walk will get you where you want to go. Facilities: An amazing house with surprisingly strong security; if she didn't point it out to you, you wouldn't notice it at all. The house is very open during the day and locked up tight at night time. The house itself is gorgeous with a lovely open living room and a balcony off the kitchen where Wendy, the owner, serves her amazing breakfasts (more on that later). There is a private deck side pool for when you want to skip coki beach and just be somewhere quiet. The rooms are just what you need, and she keeps them immaculate. Breakfast: Prepared to be blown away. My wife and I are pretty used to hotel continental breakfasts: contrasted with Wendy's food the hotels are serving you rubbish. Wendy prepares beautiful meals with fresh fruit, everything made from scratch, and frequently with self made smoothies. Breakfast isn't something you'd ever expect to be this good; for us it was the best part of everyday, and we had some really good days. Wendy: Yeah she's an amenity all by herself. She's incredibly friendly, very funny, and gives you the most personal service you've ever had. She knows practically everything about the island and what to do, she knows exactly who and when to call for cabs, and on top of this runs the whole B&B almost single handedly. She's one of the nicest people you will ever meet. All in all you're going to be getting an experience better than some of the activities on the island you'll be booking. Wouldn't you rather have an amazing experience you can rely on everyday than just the regular old hotel trip? I would, and I am so glad I stayed here.

The location was perfect for us. It was a reasonable stroll to the beach bars and ferry (by way of the path along the pond). But the distance from those "lively" spots means that an evening spent on the veranda at the inn is restful, not like your third-story balcony over M Street in Georgetown. When we booked our trip in March, it was with Kathleen, but when we arrived it was the new owners, Eileen and John, who greeted us. Every thing had been handled so seamlessly that, if they had not told us of their new occupation as inn owners, we would not have known there had been a hand-off.
