TJ Ranch is truly a hidden gem in the mountains of Puerto Rico. From the moment you arrive, you're treated like family. The property is peaceful, secluded, and perfect for an eco-style getaway. Waking up to nature sounds, cool mountain air, and beautiful scenery was incredibly refreshing. If you're looking to unplug, relax, and reconnect with nature, this is the place. Highly recommend for anyone wanting a calm, authentic mountain experience. read more

I had a wonderful experience at TJ Ranch. Our first visit to the island of Puerto Rico and we chose to stay for a few days to TJ Ranch during the Christmas holiday. Located in the heart of Puerto Rico and near the World's Largest Radio Telescope Arecibo Observatory, TJ Ranch was and is a welcoming place. Tony and Joan welcomed us and showed us to our cabin. It's a hide away like non other. TJ Ranch is a family owned business and very private. We walked past their house, past the pool, past the big restaurants to the back of the land towards the cabins. The scenery is breath taking. They are in the valley of this 40 acres of tropical plants and wild life. Tony is also the chef and he serves up some of the most traditional dishes and a few dishes with a twist that are delicious!!! They made us feel so welcomed that we didn't want to leave. They helped us with our daily trips exploring this paradise island. Since they are located in the center, it allowed for us to explore more of the north, west and south coast near the towns of Arecibo, Hatillo, Camuy, Lares, Islabela, Moca, Cobo Rojo, Guinca, Ponce, Jayuya, and etc. Well worth the drive. We had a great time and ever since when we plan our trips to Puerto Rico we almost always make an effort to stay at TJ Ranch for a few days. They are wonderful people and so giving. I also discovered it's an excellent place for birdwatching, hiking and so much more. read more

TJ ranch 2017 two nights in July, Breakfasts were great. The ranch is nice and clean, plain and lovely separate suites cabin rooms a plus! Each with full bath room large shower stall, lots of hot water, all screed in w/ a sitting porch. But we saw / felt very few bugs. Best private place but an isolated location... up a small country road near Los Bocas dam, then 2.5 miles up a 1 lane semi private mountain lane, yes its up there. Return after your day trips to Camuy caves, or Arecibo (35 miles about 1 hr) Return in time for the special chef dinners, no restaurants around.... As others have said... "Otherwise, there is little to 'do' at the ranch but there are a few natural attractions (caves, hiking trails, etc) close by - and all require navigating confusing and dangerously narrow winding mountain roads (which were mostly in fair to good condition)" Beautiful nature and outlooks all around Very forest jungle picturesque landscape... lots of frog (coqui), and bird sounds through the night. Coqui https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZUOiZG84c0 Older couple are owners / hosts are helpful if you want any side trip info, directions. Well behaved friendly older dog on site. Nice size pool for kids or adults. read more

TJ's was not what I expected it to be, it was more. From the moment our one night stay was booked, I had high hopes for this serene location. What reservations do you make over the phone anymore? It was intimate from the very beginning. The drive up the windy road to TJ's through the jungle only increased our excitement. When we pulled up to the gate, it was like heading to camp. We were greeted by Juanita. She was everything I expected her to be, kind, sweet lady. Dinner that night was delicious. Tony is a great cook! Our cabin was very charming. It was perfect. No air conditioning, just screens separating you from the outside. The noise that night was incredible! The noise of the frogs alone, make it worth while! Even though our king sized bed was made of two smaller beds pushed together, it was one of the best sleeps I have had. This is probably one of the best and most memorable places I have ever stayed at. I will cherish the time I spent here and highly recommend you taking on the experience. It is truly a home away from home as they advertise on their website! My only regret is not being able to stay longer. Thank you Tony and Juanita! read more

So, it was weird to have to supply my credit card information before being told how to get there, especially since we were within half an hour travel. But all was good once we got there. Lovely place! Had a little casita to rest and relax in and fabulous food to dine on. Our hosts were great and loved telling tales of the area. I would go again! read more
Incredibly friendly service from the owners Tony & Joan. They prepared a special vegetarian meal for us for dinner for a small charge which was one of the best meals we have ever had, & ditto for breakfast. The ride here is very nice, but you should do it with light out. This is in the forest so lots of sounds of nature. The room cabin was simple but clean. A great place to relax & live with nature all around. Tony & Joan are gems of people, & very friendly. Make this your base for activities around Arecibo. read more

I have stayed at TJs quite a few times. From day one I felt like a member of the family. Great place to enjoy the sounds, colors and smells of nature. Both Tony and Juanita go out of their way to make this experience unique. The food is extraordinary and both of them will surprise you with their creations. In the middle of this forest you can get fresh fish, lobster and my favorite combo: octopus and conch. All cooked with Tony's special touch. You can also get lamb or steak, always tender and with different seasonings. At night I leave my door and windows opened so I can sleep to the sound of the coquis or the rain. Their young kids will guide you to the nearby attractions if you are not in the mood to relax or nap. My son spent.a few days with his fiance and.both of them are planning to return soon. If you want to spend some.time with a significant other or want to get out of the rat.race, this is the place to go. read more

"After escaping from The Palace Hostel in San Juan (see review), we decided to get a bit lavish and stay at TJ Ranch. It was a great decision. The setting is amazing--tucked so deep into the jungle that it feels like the coqui frogs are underneath your bed. But they definitely aren't--the cabins are immaculately cleaned and cared for. Moreover, the cabins are super spacious and attractively constructed and laid-out (Joanna--the owner has an architectural background). Though we didn't use the pool, it looked like a nice option. The meals are unique, carefully crafted, and delicious. Tony--Joanna's partner--truly loves to cook and to share food with people. Mealtime provides a chance both to eat and to explore Puerto Rico through the experiences of Joanna and Tony. Even though they've been doing this for decades, they seem genuinely interested in you, your experiences, and your interests in Puerto Rico. And they are a font of knowledge about things Puerto Rico. We appreciated their friendly yet no-nonsense style, reflective of their MA/NY roots, and enjoyed this conviviality, but if you are perhaps looking for a place where you can be anonymous, this might not be the spot (see my Casa Grande review). If you're looking for a distinctive, delicious, and memorable vacation experience for a reasonable cost, you should definitely check out TJ Ranch!" read more
