We recently stayed at the Rainforest Inn during our trip to Puerto Rico, and I want to share our…read morehonest experience both the good and the bad. This is simply our experience, and I'm not interested in debating or defending how we felt. To start with the positives: before booking, I read many reviews and was excited about supporting what appeared to be a small business run by a husband and wife. The property itself is absolutely beautiful , truly breathtaking scenery. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and surprisingly cool despite there being no air conditioning. The cooling system on the beds was amazing. We also did the hike on the property, which was beautiful and definitely one of the highlights of our stay. The wife was incredibly pleasant, welcoming, and knowledgeable about hospitality. She made us feel comfortable from the beginning. Unfortunately, several interactions with the husband left us feeling uncomfortable throughout our stay. Each morning, coffee and tea were offered to guests. One morning, since we planned to hike, we politely declined coffee multiple times. Despite saying no several times, the offer continued in a way that felt oddly tense, as though our declining offended him. During conversation, he openly mentioned that his wife often tells him he comes across as rude. He also praised her hospitality skills, and honestly, I completely agreed with him on that point. What really unsettled me happened when we were signing waivers for the hike. He handed me the waiver with a pen attached. After I passed the paperwork to my husband, my husband reached for the pen, and instead of handing it to him directly, the pen was tossed toward him. Whether intentional or not, the interaction immediately rubbed me the wrong way and changed the energy for me completely. For context, we are a Black couple, and while I cannot say what anyone's intentions were, some of the interactions throughout our stay felt uncomfortable enough that it became hard not to notice. Especially in the way my husband was treated at times. Another example: he offered to send horseback riding information to me. Since I didn't have my phone nearby, I asked twice for the information to be sent to my husband instead. Despite that, the information was still sent to me. The final issue involved the laundry area. We were washing a small load of clothes and some towels during the allowed hours. A few minutes into drying, he opened the dryer himself, removed my personal clothing including bras and underwear -- and left them sitting on top of the washer. He later sent a text saying the dryer was overloaded and making noise, although the load was not packed tightly and was smaller than the load left behind by the previous guests. What bothered me most was not the concern about the machine, but the fact that my personal undergarments were handled instead of simply asking us to adjust the load ourselves. None of these incidents individually caused a confrontation because we chose to remain respectful and calm throughout our stay. However, taken together, they left a stain on what otherwise could have been an excellent experience. Afterward, I revisited some of the lower rated reviews and noticed that several other guests also mentioned discomfort with the husband's demeanor and communication style. I also noticed responses to criticism often seemed defensive. Again, this review is not written to argue with the owners or invite debate from strangers online. This was our experience, and no one gets to tell us how we should feel about the interactions we had during our stay.

I've always wanted to spend more time in Luquillo, and after seeing the consistently high ratings on Expedia and TripAdvisor--along with its beachfront location--I decided to give it a try. The property itself is older, but don't let that deter you. The rooms were exceptionally clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, which made for a very relaxing stay. I loved the balcony and watching the ocean from so close! Beautiful sunrise too. Check-in is more laid-back, so don't expect a traditional front desk experience with someone always present. That said, the communication was excellent. I really appreciated that they reached out via text ahead of time to ask about my arrival--it was a thoughtful touch. I arrived earlier than the standard check-in time (as I had mentioned), and there were no issues at all. When I rang the bell, a staff member promptly came out to assist me and greeted me with a warm smile. There's also a very popular restaurant and bar on-site with an amazing-looking menu. Unfortunately, we didn't get the chance to try it this time, but it's definitely on the list for our next visit. The location is another big plus--easy to find, right on the beach, and conveniently close to a Walgreens and other nearby beaches to explore. Overall, this was a great experience, and I would absolutely stay here again. Thank you for a wonderful visit!

Our wedding was in December, and it's now almost February--still no response from the venue or the owner. The issue? We paid extra for a higher-tier bar package, only to find that our bar signage was hidden, and the bartender had no idea how to make any of the drinks. Classic cocktails like Old Fashioneds and Negronis were made poorly (when they were made at all), and in the end, most guests resorted to drinking only wine, champagne, or beer--completely negating the premium package we paid for. We made menus for the drinks and they magically disappeared. To make matters worse, we were previously assured via email that the bartender was experienced, only to later find out that they were hired the day before the event. This level of unprofessionalism is unacceptable. We reached out multiple times to resolve this fairly, including requesting a partial refund for a service we didn't receive. We were met with silence. Someone on Instagram keeps telling us that "someone will reach out," yet here we are, still waiting. If you're considering this venue, be warned: they have no problem taking your money, but when an issue arises, they disappear. We expected better, and at the very least, a response. Mind you, the location is spectacular but the fact that they hired someone without experience to work a wedding is shady and unfair to the guests and couple who paid out of pocket to make this an experience. It was an experience but not one that we smile about when it comes to talking about the bar saturation . 90% of guests are all industry people. Thanks for not responding. I tried.

Old-school hospitality charm mixed it with your modern day conveniences.Right from the get-go, my husband and I instantly felt connected with Maribel & Pablo who own The Serene House. True to its name, The Serene House offers a calm retreat tucked into Luquillo, Puerto Rico's lush greenery. This charming bed and breakfast lets out peace and simplicity and where nature really meets comfort. The main house is the heart of the property- has a fully equipped kitchen with restaurant-grade appliances, a dining area if you prefer breakfast indoors to avoid the humidity outside, a peaceful reading nook if you want to unwind with a good book and for those looking to take a piece of the island home, there's a small corner of colorful women's clothing and handmade beaded bracelets. There's also a restroom available for guests' convenience. Plus there's a pool area hooked to the nines. The Serene House has 4 Casitas designed with rest in mind. Two are up on a hill, while the other two rest a little higher for an even more secluded experience. The Casitas are built to endure Puerto Rico's powerful hurricanes. Each Casita has hurricane-proof windows and solid cement construction blending rustic charm with essential functionality. Our Casita was hooked up with crisp white bedding, a clean shower+bathroom and a super restful vibe. Great water pressure from the sink, shower, toilet. Cleanliness and attention are clearly a priority here hands down- both in our Casita and throughout the grounds. Pablo is the mastermind behind our unforgettable breakfasts and he completely spoiled us. For four mornings straight, each meal was a new culinary creation- no repeats, no shortcuts. Every dish was pure magic. Forget store-bought OJ- here, every glass is squeezed fresh. And that passion fruit drizzle on the fruit? 100% the real deal. Thank you for bringing the heat every single morning. And when we went to El Yunque National Rainforest, he prepared 3 hefty salmon tacos each to have for lunch. Thank YOU again! And Maribel is an absolute delight. She's warm, thoughtful and genuinely friendly. Talking with her felt easy and natural, like we'd known her for ages. Our conversations were full of laughs, interesting stories and those little moments that stay with you. She brought such a warm, thoughtful energy through it all. To add, The Serene House is officially recognized by Puerto Rico Bed & Breakfasts & PRTC (Puerto Rico Tourism Company). That recognition really shows in their professionalism, attention to detail and commitment to quality. I mean...it's all here and it's clear they take pride in offering a top-notch experience. I have no omplaints.

So I loved my room because it was spacious and accommodating. I did not like that the only outlets to charge or phones was under the head board of the bed, so we had to pull the mattress to connect our phone chargers. With that being said, the resort is lacking on modern stuff. I wasn't a fan of the coffee machine because it didn't pour the right amount of coffee. TIP: pour one cup at a time and not two. Breakfast at cafe soleil was amazing! There were two days where the servers were "ok" and the rest of the days where our server were amazing! The food is amazing and they always have a different specialty everyday. I wish they served the crepes guava and cheese everyday lol. The pool is amazing! I loved it! The only thing that prevented this review from being a 5 star is the service at the bar. The bartender acknowledged me and told me to wait. A father and son came at the bar and she attended them completely disregarding me. I was waiting for her for 10 minutes as she finished making drinks for other customers. I just swam back and didn't order anything. They don't have servers to come by and ask if you want a drink. Also, it was ghetto that they used pandora to play music. You would think a resort would have their own station or at least pay for pandora so that the commercials didn't play. Parking is perfect. No complaints!

Upon arrival, our room was facing a wall. To see the ocean we had to go on the terrace and crane our necks to the left hanging over the bannister. NOT an ocean view room. They really need to call these rooms partial ocean view. Then there would be no issue. I immediately went back to the front desk and asked for a different room. It seems there was not ONE other available room in the entire hotel, but they did promise to move us the next day. We could not unpack. Made me crazy and uncomfortable. The next day we were promised a room between 11-2. And by 2pm we'd heard nothing so we went to meet the front desk manager at 2pm. She assured us the room was being prepared. It was!!! We finally had a beautiful king room facing the ocean and not over the kiddie pool. Krysia was wonderful and everything she said came to fruition. Can't thank her enough for her support. There were definite differences between the two supposed ocean view king rooms. The first room obviously faced a wall not the ocean. But it also lacked amenities that were present in the 2nd room such as really cool lights on the side of the bed that light up when you pass by. Great for the evening when going to the bathroom! There was a small (not real) plant in the bathroom. There were more towels present. There was a love seat sized couch not a chair. The sliding glass doors to the terrace were larger. It's possible the ceilings were higher too. Small measures but noticeable. The Tiki Hut near the beach and pool is great and we had lunch there everyday. We saw people enjoying the cabanas and the individual service they receive. The beach area is my spot. Always chairs and umbrellas available with staff to set you up. We have been to this hotel at least 6 times over the past years and have found the restaurants good and the service friendly. Housekeeping staff is accommodating too. Review just went from 4 stars to 3. Upon checking out they tried to charge us extra taxes. We pre paid the entire amount at time of reservation which included room and taxes and resort Fees.
