View from our balcony
Annette P.

The room itself was clean and comfortable. We had a nice view from our balcony. The elevator wasn't working which made it difficult to carry our luggage (I have rheumatoid arthritis). The air conditioner worked very, very well.

This hotel was an odd duck but I enjoyed it. I went at the end of season, so it was pretty empty and felt kind of deserted. However, the room was clean, very spacious and had a good view from the balcony. The pool and restaurant were nice, and the property as a whole was great. There are fruit trees all over and it is very relaxing. It's a great jumping off point if you are exploring the east side of the island. The price point maybe a little high for the value they provide but it was a nice stay all the same.

Pool and pool bar

Pretty nice place but be ready for some jankiness. 1- ROOMS were clean and comfortable and generally clean (but did find an abandoned hairbrush under the bed...) 2- LOCATION was pretty good but having your own car is probably a necessity, more on that later. Within 10 minutes (driving) of food, beach, and other activities. Not too bad. 3- POOL was the best part. Multiple different pools, on with a small slide and even one long enough to do laps. Also a poolside bar with your standard drink assortment. Very family and kid friendly, no lifeguards. 4- AMENITIES was where the jank began. Reception and website say there are 2 restaurants on site. They were never open when we were there, and the staff said "changes coming soon?" Felt like false advertising. Also, pool Batman said a chef comes on only Tuesdays (?!?) but the chef never came. Barman can make fried bar food though. Also, reception said there was breakfast everyday... Nope! No breakfast, you have to drive to get that (luckily a PR bakery with decent sandwiches is down the road, but really?). So either the staff doesn't know all the info about their hotel or they are misleading. So be warned. OVERALL- need a car, don't expect any food accommodations, and enjoy the room and pools. I would say a solid 3/5 but others in my group were more generous at a 3.5/5.

Old motel style rooms

DO NOT STAY HERE. DO NOT. DO NOT BOOK IT... YOU WILL NOT GET YOUR MONEY BACK!!! My cousin booked us this hotel, without checking Yelp. Reviews elsewhere were ok. We drove an hour and a half to get to this place. Pulling up looked like we were rolling into a deserted motel. No cars. No people. Run down. Totally creepy. We drove around trying to find life, finally found the front desk, and when we opened the car door, I instantly started to salivate and get sick. There was an overpowering smell of sulfur. I ran inside the building asking if I could see the room, they said was on the second floor, but they would get someone to show me a room. A very nice lady came from housekeeping, and walked me to a room downstairs. It was very dark and dingy, looked like an old motel. They were cleaning, so I couldn't smell much over the cleaner, but it definitely was not worth $200 per night. Like someone else said.... maybe $70. She was very sweet and showed me around the vicinity, but I was gagging from the smell, which she claimed she couldn't smell. The pool and golf course are quite a hike, and the only thing this place has going for it. But you can't be outside due to the smell, so it's even worth that. There is a ZERO refund policy. It's very clear why. If they can sucker people into reserving rooms before they see it, they are keeping all the money, because they know people will try to back out.. The 5 star reviews on other sites are all no name, no actual review, so you know they set those up to balance out the ratings. We were traveling with 2 small kids. The whole area was unsafe, surrounding areas, the actual Inn, the doors, windows, etc.. Not a place for 2 women and small children to stay AT ALL. We only saw 1 family of 3 on the property. And 3 adults at the bar at the pool. 1 man at the juice bar. No other cars. No other guests. Very unsettling. I cannot emphasize enough... DO NOT STAY HERE.

Our room is big, and we were able to check in and go to our room two hours before we were supposed to. My only complaint is that the glass divider on the shower isn't as good as I'd hoped, and water leaks on to the bathroom floor when you shower. As for food, we had sushi from the Okinawa restaurant which was DELICIOUS. Our server, Angel, was also very courteous and attentive. We did have to call and make a reservation in advance, which seems to be the norm at the resort, but the food was well worth it. I especially enjoyed the Alaska rolls. My experience at El Conquistador was pretty good. My only worry is that you might run out of things to do if you stay longer than a couple days.

I stood at the front desk for over ten minutes and no one was around. Finally a man that worked there asked me if I've been helped. Told him no, he went into the back and got someone. I'm greeted by a guy in a warm up suit with long hair. Not an expensive resort look. My room had a beautiful view. Room problems : the shower handle fell off when I turned it. Shower curtain smelled terrible The water was warm but not hot in the shower. No hot water from the bathroom sink. As this was a conference everyone ate together. The food set out for the conference was terrible. Breakfast food was cold each morning. Lunch food was ok. Dinner food was cold also Went to Ventanas (spelling) got there at 7 Dinner did not come out until 9:15. Food was terrible. Checkout the desk clerk did not ask how my stay was. I told her the room needed repairs. She said I will get someone up there. She didn't ask what kind of repairs. I asked if she wanted me to tell her. I told her I don't know if it mattered . My only good thing was the people I was with.

The first night I heard what I assumed was a curated "rainforest soundtrack" through speakers. It's not. Those are actual local frogs, and that small detail somehow sets the tone for the whole experience: it feels real, private, and almost unreal at the same time. The room is massive and thoughtfully designed. The outdoor shower is a standout, and the big tub makes it feel like you have your own spa built in. I didn't have a private pool since I'm on the second floor, but the view is so beautiful I stopped caring pretty quickly. What impressed me most was how effortless everything felt. Having an Embajador team plus a driver/golf cart makes the resort feel easy to navigate, and they're quick to respond when you need anything. The pool is stunning and spacious, and the overall vibe is quiet, calm, and never chaotic. The only thing I wouldn't hype is room service. It was underwhelming for the price, especially the lobster. If you're deciding where to eat, go to Positivo near the concierge instead, it was noticeably better. Even when the weather turned intense, it didn't take away from the stay. If anything, it made the resort feel even more cozy and cinematic. Add in the humidity controls in the room (so underrated), and it's one of those places you leave already planning how to come back.

The people here are so accommodating; they have 3 restaurants on the property and they are all equally good. from formal to casual you can't go wrong eating at any of them. i'm a marriott member and had some points that i used for one night and im happy i took advantage of it. unfortunately they are converting the property to a 4 seasons and it will be far more expensive to stay here. The st. regis operates like a luxury hotel should. i would give it 10 stars if i could. i used the spa facilities and the massages we got were first notch. and jesselyn was a great nature guide that took us around the property. we are sad to be leaving.

My young kids were delighted with this. There is a boathouse area with free kayaking, standup paddle boarding and inflatable playground. This boathouse also offers more high-tech water sports equipment for rent. For families There are adult bikes and children's bikes on the resort that are complementary. There are golf carts that take you from one area to another as everything is pretty spread out. For example, from the main gate to the hotel is a little less than a mile. Only two free breakfast are included with Marriott status. So if you are traveling with kids, you have to pay $22 plus tip for their breakfast every morning. They have a few sand toys to share out on the beach. The large pool area does have Shallow parts for children. For adults The beach here is gorgeous though setback many yards from the hotel. The pool does not have an adult only area that I know of. There is a nice but small hot tub. You have access to all of the spa amenities every day as a guest here. There is a small gym next to the spa and a larger gym called the wellness center which is about Half a mile from the main area. Food issues The main issue here as many other of viewers have stated is the lack of decent food selection. Sea grapes is decent but only open until 5 PM. Paro gets terrible reviews and is excessively overpriced Mediterranean food. However, an Uber from the hotel to Rio Grande is not expensive around $10 and they are good restaurants, but you must do your own research. I recommend Los kioskos de luquillo Which have many food options and it is basically a beach party scene better for adult adults than kids. Service and butler service overall were spotty. We were given incorrect information multiple times. Don't forget to take a ton of cash to tip-wish they would include this in the final bill. Loved the ocean view, comfy beds, and spacious bathroom. Overall a nice stay and would consider coming back if the food options improved a bit!

I've always wanted to spend more time in Luquillo, and after seeing the consistently high ratings on Expedia and TripAdvisor--along with its beachfront location--I decided to give it a try. The property itself is older, but don't let that deter you. The rooms were exceptionally clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, which made for a very relaxing stay. I loved the balcony and watching the ocean from so close! Beautiful sunrise too. Check-in is more laid-back, so don't expect a traditional front desk experience with someone always present. That said, the communication was excellent. I really appreciated that they reached out via text ahead of time to ask about my arrival--it was a thoughtful touch. I arrived earlier than the standard check-in time (as I had mentioned), and there were no issues at all. When I rang the bell, a staff member promptly came out to assist me and greeted me with a warm smile. There's also a very popular restaurant and bar on-site with an amazing-looking menu. Unfortunately, we didn't get the chance to try it this time, but it's definitely on the list for our next visit. The location is another big plus--easy to find, right on the beach, and conveniently close to a Walgreens and other nearby beaches to explore. Overall, this was a great experience, and I would absolutely stay here again. Thank you for a wonderful visit!

This Resort is the first one that was built off the island of Jamaica, where Sandals first began. It has an older vibe to it. Very easy to get around and get your bearings of where everything is. You also have a resort map to help guide you. In some things we were a bit disappointed, but overall we really had a great time. I would recommend you make your reservations to the Dinner Restaurants when you first get there. The early times fill up fast. You know when you are on vacation the time goes by faster than usual. The swim up bars are great place to talk with other vacationers. Everyone is having fun. If you are heading for the beach, make sure you get there early to get the beach cots. It can be challenging to find one as the day goes on. The beach towel stations run out of towels rather quickly, the supply chain is slow replenishing the stations. I would suggest, at the pools grab a few towels from there. It may save you a walk from station to station looking for towels. They have lots of activities every day. The evening has special themes like "White Night " you wear your white Linen clothes, Reggie Night, etc. Live bands play every night somewhere on the property. Your daily resort schedule will tell you where. Oh yes dress, no matter where you go reservations or not, flip flops are the standard foot wear. I brought a few other pair of shoes that I never wore. Oh yes it is only a 10 or 15 minute bus ride to Grande Antigua from the airport. Sandals provided transportation to and from the airport. No tipping at the resort, but I did tip the driver to and from the airport.

We recently returned from a stay at Sandals Grande Antigua (June 15-20, 2025) and while there are…read morecertainly aspects of the resort we appreciated, there were also several concerns that, cumulatively, made this experience fall short of the high standards we've come to expect from Sandals based on previous stays in Barbados and St. Lucia. Pros: - The setting is undeniably beautiful. The beaches are stunning, and the resort grounds are well-maintained. - We appreciated the convenience of unlimited food and drinks. - The inclusion of Robert Mondavi wines ensured a consistent baseline of wine quality, which we enjoyed. Cons: - The level of service and staff attitude was noticeably below what we've experienced at other Sandals locations. Many team members seemed disinterested, disengaged, and at times cold--lacking the warmth and hospitality we have associated with the Sandals brand. This was especially evident at check-out, where no one asked how our stay was nor offered a simple thank you. - The number of solicitations we encountered was excessive and disruptive. On one occasion, we were approached five times in two hours--making it very difficult to relax quietly or enjoy reading without interruption. These included both Sandals-affiliated promotions and third-party vendors. - The food overall was average, which was a disappointment given the typically exceptional culinary experiences we've had at other Sandals resorts. Most pastries tasted mass-produced, croissants resembled those from a grocery store value pack, and drinks were heavily watered down with ice. - A few bright spots in dining included Soy, Eleanor's, and Kimonos. In particular, Chef Ronello and server Chad at Kimonos created a memorable and special hibachi dinner for our anniversary after a group no-show left us with a private experience. Their warmth and attentiveness stood out as highlights of our trip. - The breakfast quality was consistently poor. Omelets were made using bare hands to grab ingredients, which raised hygiene concerns. French toast and eggs were cold every day. - Internet access was frustrating throughout the stay. Frequent disconnects, weak signals (especially in-room), and download speeds of only 1-2 Mbps are unacceptable, particularly at a resort of this caliber. We chose not to pay for the "premium" internet, though advertised speeds were still below modern expectations. In 2025, even economy hotel chains offer faster, more reliable WiFi. Frankly, airplane WiFi outperformed what we experienced at Sandals Antigua. We strongly believe that premium-level connectivity should be included in the standard offering, especially at the price point of this resort. Closing Remarks: While the location and a few exceptional staff members helped create some positive memories, the overall experience at Sandals Antigua did not meet the standards we associate with the Sandals brand. We contacted Sandals directly with our feedback and they responded with offered compensation in terms of points. However, we were surprised to receive a legal document in connection with this offer to release us from future reviews. We felt this formality was unnecessary, particularly as our intention was never been to escalate matters beyond constructive feedback. After careful consideration--and with great reluctance--we chose not to book a future Sandals trip during our stay, something we've always done in the past. This decision was not made lightly, but based on the decline in service quality and overall value, we did not feel confident committing to another visit at this time. Also, we found it highly unethical that Sandals Antigua would attempt to offer compensation -- in the form of points -- seemingly in exchange for our silence or retraction of an honest, unsatisfactory review (or future reviews). This behavior constituted as a form of bribery and only further reinforced the disappointing experience we had with the resort. I urge Sandals to reevaluate its approach to customer feedback and adopt a more ethical and respectful standard for resolving complaints.

Not that you would need it but the facility also has a couple of pools and a jacuzzi. The only complaints are that the power kept going out during the second night, which wasn't a big deal since the generator kicked in right away. Still a little irritating though. Also it was a little bit difficult to find. All in all it was a great value. I would definitely go back. By the way, if you do the bio bay tour skip the kayak and do the motor boat option. It doesn't cost much more and you get to see more of the bay, plus you don't have to paddle.
