What an EXPERIENCE to stay here! There are no walls on the front of room then a big open window on the backside. The cool ocean breeze blows in. I was hesitant to book here because of this. (nervous about bugs and it being too warm, neither were an issue) No tv, no hairdryers in room (can get from office) no ac. The day we arrived Sarah Rose was helpful with recommendations and showed us the honor bar, she's a real gem. The umbrellas, boogie boards, noodle floaties, and snorkel gear available. At the office there are food and drinks you can take to the room. There was a mini kitchen that was stocked full of all the goods needed to cook. Then 6 eggs, honey, maple syrup, raw sugar, butter, several pieces of fruit, a large loaf of homemade bread, juice, milk, and cereal. They only book 3 night minimum, has to be in the same room. So if you don't see it on the calendar for 3 nights in a row it's not available. We had a little trouble sleeping our first night. Simply aren't used to all of the birds chirping and the sound of the rain. But when we got back to San Juan and had to stay in a regular closed room with AC I felt claustrophobic.. funny how quickly we adapt. Can't wait to visit the Hix House again!

S and I returned here for four nights for our honeymoon. We love it! There were hardly any bugs at all (mosquitos at night-- use the mosquito netting over the bed), the views were great, the fresh bread was more delicious than we remembered, and the pool was perfect. (We even got to meet the owner/designer! Really nice guy.) It rained almost the entire time, which we were told was really strange for Vieques, but the rooms are so peaceful and relaxing as rain hideaways, we didn't mind at all. We just put on the provided bathrobes and chilled on our lounge chairs, watching it pour. Will return here every time.

you're cool if you know of this place. (lady gaga stayed here) you're even cooler if you end up staying here. and if you do stay here and survive the bug bites, you're basically god to me. don't even consider staying here if you don't have a car. i hiked for an hour to esperanza and probably won't do that again. but management is really nice. they do impose a 2-night minimum but after i realized it was basically impossible for me to stay here beyond 1 night they allowed me to move out and refunded me for the second night.

Spanish horses grazing the land, they don't bother anyone they just do their own thing :)

My guess is that this comes from an understanding that they are your only option and aren't likely to see you again. So, they focus on making the locals happy. Being repeat customers/neighbors, this makes sense. If you come thinking that this is tourist level customer service, you will be disappointed. Not only did they neglect to inform tick holders, they canceled every ferry ride for the entire day...even the ones scheduled well before 2pm. Our ferry was scheduled for 7:30 and if not for our taxi driver canceling our ride to the ferry terminal at 5:30am, we would not have known. My fiance and I ended up spending $120 booking last minute flights so that we wouldn't be stranded. Terrible customer service. Unethical business practices as well as we received no refund for our ticket. The ferry company used the protest as an excuse to force tourists to spend more money on the local economy, by making them pay for flights. Absolutely disgusting. Vieques is beautiful. Bioluminescent bay is magic. But unless you can afford to fly to the island, I would suggest skipping. It's just too unreliable and sketchy.

If you are out of the business hours, the pick up will be next morning 9am. We booked one day ahead to pick up at 9am instead of 1 pm. It was worth it! Airport & Drop-off: The drop-off process is incredibly convenient. If you take the early flight, you can drop the car in a parking lot next to airport --2-3 minute walk with $25 drop fee. Work hours, they offer a prompt airport pick up and drop off. The most surprise part is I accidentally took the car keys with me back to San Juan! I was so worried about how to return her key or pay for the lost key, but Julimar was understanding I was rush to the airport. I communicated with her and shipped the keys back to her overnight using USPS, she did not charge any extra fees for that. I am trully appreciate. Vehicle Recommendation: We had a Kia, which was sufficient for most main roads. However, some roads on the island are quite rough/unpaved, so a Jeep would definitely be better, more comfortable choice for exploring. Thank you, Julimar, for making our trip so much easier. Highly recommend! The beach is beautiful in the island.

Also when I dropped off the car, she tried to tell me there was new damage to the car and had to show the video I took before leaving. ALSO on the rental contract it says there is a fee for returning with sand in the car or wet seats. In a beach town.... Go with Maritza's or Segura

We grabbed a taxi van and he ended up serving as a tour guide to us, which he was happy to do. He took us to a few different places with pleasure. At the last stop he had picked up his son and drove us around with no problem. I really loved he was so personable. In Vieques you see horses all around, which was so beautiful; we really enjoyed that. We went to two beaches. We loved the second one, which was Playa Caracas. The sand was so white, and soft. The water waves were calm and warm. We had so much fun and made some friends while in the water. We ended up trading up drinks. I had about 10 minutes of business to conduct on the island and was supposed to fly in and out quickly. Arrival was no problem, and when landing it looks like paradise. Do not be alarmed if there are horses on the runway or at the airport. They are all over the island. I arrived an hour before the rest of my team (they were on a different flight) and decided to eat at the on-site cafe. As soon as I ordered I instantly regretted it. It isn't very sanitary. There were flies everywhere and I had to wave a napkin the entire time I ate to keep the flies back. Needless to say my stomach hurt the rest of the day. My return flight was a major issue. They cancelled my flight due to a bad storm but didn't say anything to me. They started loading another plane and I had to step in and insist they put me on it. After some arguing I got aboard. These planes are small, about 5-6 passengers and I was sitting behind the pilot. Before take off he turned and said directly to me, "We are going to try this, say a Hail Mary." I was like WTF... The flight was terrifying! I honestly thought we were going to crash into the ocean but somehow we made it!
