So, after hearing all the horror stories online, from other tourists and the locals, I definitely had some anxiety. However, after 4 trips, it really isn't that bad. Tips: 1.) Buy ticket in advance (if possible) 2.) Arrive early (about an hour) 3.) Be patient Also, be aware the ferry terminal at Cieba and Vieques are very different. Vieques requires a bit more planning and patience. Buying tickets online are a few bucks more but you bypass the lines and avoid standing in the heat. Also, no risk of the tickets selling out.

In the ferry on our way to the island was absolutely awesome and beautiful. The ferry they had us bored on the way back to the big Island there is a ferry that is loaded with vehicles and other goods as well as some people. Not a nice fairy at all. But for the price, how could you complain especially when you are not here to see a ferry

Always late coming or going. Runs on island time. Line in Fajardo are long. We got to Fajardo about and hour and half before. Waited in line in bags. Ferry was about 40 min late to arrive. Coming back from Vieques it was 36 min late (11am ferry left at 12pm). The locals (which seems to be anyone that "looks" local gets on first. Everyone else....just waits. Overall, for $2 it's worth it. We traveled with a 10,11,14 year old kids and two adults. Got seats on both ferries. Coming from Fajardo it is always packed. Leaving Vieques, there was plenty of seats.

1 million times better than the ferry to Vieques, but still room for improvement! After making it through the disaster that is the ferry port of Fajardo, we bought our return tickets upon landing in Vieques. The ferry ended up arriving 1 hour late, but there is a great little cafe across the street to grab a coffee, beer, whatever, while you wait.

I think that leaving Vieques is easier to get on the ferry than coming to Vieques. I only went on the ferry from Vieques to Fajardo. I believe our tickets were $2.25/person. One of the security ladies was not friendly and I actually saw her smile drop when she saw me. I killed her with a smile and a peppy personality. The only way I know how to do it ;) I booked the 11:00am ferry on a Thursday and we arrived a little under an hour before the ferry arrived and purchased our ticket at the ferry terminal. They separate locals from visitors at the terminal. The ferry came a few minutes late, but it was not that bad. I would recommend you bring motion sickness pills, one thing I wish I did. Nothing intense happened, I just got queasy. There are seats inside the ferry where there is air conditioning. There is also a place where you can put luggage. You can also stand outside during the ferry ride. Inside the seats were a bit tattered, but they did the job. There was enough seats for everyone on the ferry, plus a few empty seats. The ferry ride lasted about an hour, which was great. When we arrived at the Fajadro ferry terminal, It was great to see taxi services so that we did not have to call anyone. I am not sure which method of transportation to choose, because the ferry is cheaper; however, it does take longer and from the other reviews I read you may not get on your desired ferry. But I also experienced delays with flying from SJU airport to Vieques and it was more expensive, but it was shorter times and more consistent with getting a flight. If you want to get to somewhere at a particular time I would recommend flying. If you are feeling the island life and in no rush, take the ferry.

Definitely runs on island time. Get there 1 hour early to make sure you get a spot! Tickets are $2.

We were going to find a golf car rental but Jorge gave us a deal for the same amount that we wouldve spent for the golf car on a Suzuki Vitara. Although old, the car was fantastic for this type of trip due to its versatility on the mountain and was the perfect car for this island vibe. He gave us a great price and he made it easier than any rental to use and return the car. Super nice and charismatic guy. Definitely cannot go wrong

(he refers to it as Pepe, "My Little Mule") Well our taxi driver Jorge on the isle of Vieques gave us a ride on his Little Mule. We called him up a few hours before our flight was due to leave, and set up a place to meet him on the Malecon of Esperanza (near the beach). We called them a little bit before our pick up time, and he said he was already there. So, we met up with him and threw our stuff into his white van, aka Pepe. Vieques is a small island east of the main island of Puerto Rico. It is known for it's world famous beaches, laid back feel, and small one-lane roads. Jorge picked us up, and BOOM! We were on our way. He zipped us around the island at light speed. He knew where every turn and bump was. "Hey maam, you ready?" he asked. He then sped up a little and we went over a little hill and our tummy's totally felt it---roller coaster style. Jorge was super nice, and gave us a tour of the island and advice----I SOOO wish we hooked up with him when we arrived on Vieques: next time! Since he was getting us to the airport way ahead of schedule, he went and gave us a tour of the W Resort (it's on the way to the airport). Jorge also works for this hotel and many customers knew him and gave him high 5's---he even picked up a few people when we stopped there. But yeah, he told us to get out and check out the resort: Ummm, yeah, it's a pretty high class hotel (I guess they filmed a recent episode of The Bachelor there). So yes, if you are ever in Vieques, make Jorge the first person you call. He (& his Little Mule) will take care of you and get you to where you need to go.

He was there for every single ride we needed, always on time, professional, and incredibly personable. But beyond that, he brought the energy, the laughs, the best music and the best vibes!
