Not only did they neglect to inform tick holders, they canceled every ferry ride for the entire day...even the ones scheduled well before 2pm. Our ferry was scheduled for 7:30 and if not for our taxi driver canceling our ride to the ferry terminal at 5:30am, we would not have known. My fiance and I ended up spending $120 booking last minute flights so that we wouldn't be stranded. Terrible customer service. Unethical business practices as well as we received no refund for our ticket. The ferry company used the protest as an excuse to force tourists to spend more money on the local economy, by making them pay for flights. Absolutely disgusting. Vieques is beautiful. Bioluminescent bay is magic. But unless you can afford to fly to the island, I would suggest skipping. It's just too unreliable and sketchy.

The next bus pulled out 42 minutes later (30 minutes off schedule); -experienced the bus pass up a stop with a father and little boy late at night. When the bus passed them (and my party) up, the little boy burst into tears wondering why the bus would do that [side note: I don't recall being that angry in a long time; making little kids cry... unbelievable]; -lived through the bus drive into oncoming traffic... like, a lane... on a highway (complete with screams from inside the bus); -scowled at bus bunching that would make Ron Huberman and Rich Rodriguez weep with pride; -arrived late for nearly every appointment I had courtesy of public transit (no matter how early I left to beat the system); and -became broke for having to pay $15-$18 a pop (another review in and of itself) for taxis. Because I had booked ferry transport as part of a package I bought when securing a tour of Casa Bacardi, I only had to show someone at the port proof of purchase to board. It was a pretty quick ride over to Cataño. The ferry as well as port building were both clean and easy to navigate. Overall it may have only taken us 15 minutes and was an easy and convenient transport option!

However, I'd skip it next time and would pay cash for the 1st ferry that arrived. This way you can get to the island faster. Crew: the employees were super kind and helpful. Can be intimidating backing up a car super close to the wall of the ship....especially with huge lines waiting for you. They were helpful and attentive. They will also come by and offer snacks and cold drinks to buy as well. If you have the space, you can get out of your car and sit on the top deck. If you're one a later return trip, enjoy the beautiful sunset. Last ship departs at 6:15pm on the dot. I suggest you get there 45 mins ahead of time to ensure a spot on the ferry.

The basic golf cart was decent--a bit slow to accelerate at first, but overall, it was a great way to get around. The rental office is just a block from the airport, making it an easy walk.
