This was a cute little Ferry experience and such a convenient way to get to the Casa Bacardi. The ferry building was so easy to find in Old San Juan with plenty of departure times. Because I had booked ferry transport as part of a package I bought when securing a tour of Casa Bacardi, I only had to show someone at the port proof of purchase to board. It was a pretty quick ride over to Cataño. The ferry as well as port building were both clean and easy to navigate. Overall it may have only taken us 15 minutes and was an easy and convenient transport option! read more

We arrived on a cruise and took the ferry so we could tour the Casa Bacardi. From the front entrance all the way to the return trip everyone was very friendly and super helpful guiding us. The shuttle times are very precise which is not normally seen in this type of industry. Both stations and the shuttles were very clean and comfortable. The price was only .50 per trip. I would recommend this shuttle even if you don't have any business across the bay. The views are fantastic !! read more

The ferry was clean and convenient! There were restaurants near the ferry station on both sides where you can grab a snack and drink while waiting for your ride. We parked for $5 on the Cataño side to avoid the traffic in OSJ. read more

This ride was .50 one way 1.00 round trip. .25 for 60 and older and free of over the age of 70. It was a nice break from the sun to relax on the ferry as we made our way from San Juan to Catano. Even if you don't want to visit Catano I would say this is a great break from the day activities to just relax and take in the sites and enjoy the breeze coming off the water. read more

Fun, scenic way to get to Old San Juan. Fast and affordable

I'm on a boat! Only .50 cents a ride. Now that is a great deal to get across the water. You get to take in some nice scenery on the roughly 15 minute boat ride across from Old San Juan. We used this transport to bring us to Catano to Casa Bacardi for a tour and some rum drinks! As it was also the San Sebastian Street Festival the days we were here there were big parties happening on both sides. After we were done, and properly buzzed at the Bacardi factory, we went to head back and saw that there was a massive crowd waiting to get on the ferry. What was so impressive is how the staff here was so organized, and had us set up in seating areas in the indoor waiting area with music and fun competitive cheering going on. They then had a huge barge-like ferry show up within a few minutes and got all of us on that thing, Wow. The crowd was so cheery and respectful, and boarded the boat quickly and with no problems at all. They even had police on the boat to keep order, and did a muster drill. Can't beat this kind of service. The ferry boats themselves are a bit worn and not all that fancy, but gets the job done. Hey, for 50 cents a trip it's all good! read more

The Catano ferry is convenient, economical and quite possibly the most effective way to make it over to Catano from Old San Juan to the Bacardi plant area (you do have to pay another $3 for a taxi cab ride from the ferry port to the plant). The ferry station is nicer than the Old San Juan station but both get the job done. Long story short: take the ferry, enjoy the ride! read more

Can't beat 50 cents for a ferry ride. This ferry goes from Catano to Old San Juan. Many tourists take the ferry to cross over and visit El Moro. The day that we rode there was a class full of middle school students on a field trip. Once we took the ride back we realized that we could have driven BUT the ferry was fun. Cheap public transportation across the bay from the old San Juan to Cataño. The 50-cent fare is almost shockingly low. It's a brief, placid ride across the sheltered bay. Sadly, there's no open deck to take in the view, inside seating only, though some of the windows open. On the San Juan side, the ferry terminal is in the vicinity of the cruise liner berthing. It looked like mostly locals and a handful of tourists on our random January weekday around 3:30pm. Most tourists will take the ferry to get to Casa Bacardi (a taxi-ride away from the Cataño side). The map shows a few restaurants on this side of the bay, but we didn't have a chance to explore. read more

Great little ferry to go between Old Town and the Bacardi factory. And at 0.50 cents each way, it's probably the cheapest transportation I have EVER taken. It's pretty simple: buy your ticket at the booth, wait for the ferry and within ten minutes you've reached your destination. There's a taxi line in the adjacent building to take you to Bacardi. 50 cents? Easily the best deal in San Juan. The only reason to hop this ferry as a tourist is to get from Old San Juan to the Bacardi distillery. But it's basically a bus on water, that actually runs on schedule every half hour. The ride is less than 10 minutes. Once you get to Cantano, you will be met by shuttle drivers who charge $3 each, or a minimum of $12 to drive people to Bacardi. If there's only 2 of you, then they will ask if you want to wait for 2 more people, because you're getting charged $12 either way. read more

The Cataño - Old San Juan ferry (or "La Lancha de Cataño") is a great option for traveling to Old San Juan if you are staying in Dorado or another location outside of the San Juan area. The Cataño ferry landing is only a 25-30 minute drive from Dorado. You can park at the pier for $3 and purchase tickets there for the 7-minute ride across the bay to Old San Juan. Tickets in November 2009 were just $.50 per adult. The ferry is restricted to pedestrian-traffic only, but this saves you the hassle of trying to find safe parking in Old San Juan (another guest at our hotel had his rental car stolen while he was sightseeing in OSJ!). The ferry runs until about 10pm. We waited about 20 minutes for the boat going from Cataño to OSJ around 4pm, but only waited about 5 minutes on the way back to Cataño later in the evening (the boats run about every 30 minutes). It was an easy, stress-free way to get there and back and ended up being a really fun evening adventure. The street address is approximate. The ferry came up in our GPS device, and I don't have it here to extract an address. Basically, you follow PR-165 to the Casa Bacardi. At the Bacardi factory, turn onto PR-888 towards the beach. Follow PR-888 (" Ave Las Nereidas") nearly to the end (about ~2 miles); the ferry terminal will be on your left. This seems like a strange thing to give a review on, but I want everyone know about this great service! I love Puerto Rico but the traffic... this ferry for only $.50 a person will take you across the water to where the Bacardi factory is located. The station is clean and has nice restrooms. The ferry itself is very clean and has plenty of seating. Trip time is about 10 minutes. The same trip from Old San Juan by Uber is approximately 25 minutes and will cost at least $20. read more

I wouldn't wish this ferry on my worst enemy. Tried to take it back on a Sunday after doing the Bacardi tour. After waiting in line for 45 minutes, the ferry finally shows up. Only to have it take, perhaps, 1/5 of the people waiting before pushing off again. Absolute waste of time. Save yourself the high blood pressure and just take an Uber. read more

For seniors it cost 25 cents each way so for $1 we both got a round trip and a $13 dollar uber from Levittown was cheap sightseeing. A fantastic way to get to San Juan without having to deal with traffic or finding safe parking. It's only a dollar round trip and four dollars for all day parking. We wanted to go to El Moro and San Juan. My husband got the suggestion from a cousin. It was more convenient to take the ferry from Catano instead of trying to fight traffic and parking in busy San Juan. It was okay since I was with my family but I definitely would not do this as a single woman and definitely not at night in El Catano. You could tell there were people there that were just loitering. When we returned there was one man that told my husband he watched our car all day. My husband answered him in Spanish that he didn't see him there earlier when we left. We knew he wanted change. It was kind of cool mingling with the locals and when we returned around 5 'ish we returned with the commuters just getting off of work. Waiting area in San Juan was open area. Really no A/C. Being from the state we are spoiled with A/C. My hair in Puerto Rico were not good hair days. Ha! Ha! While to and from on ferry I prayed that our boat did not sink since I wasn't sure there were really life jackets. I think the signs said in Spanish life jackets for kids.
