This is a great guesthouse for anyone looking for lodging on the island. Each guest room is unique (I've stayed in two one different occasions) and the shared areas are all lovely. During the day, Mike and/or John are available to troubleshoot anything for you and give wonderful advice on local attractions. I tried some that were not on the list and they are as follows: -Tin Box: If you're craving sushi on the island, this is a great place to check out. -Green beach: Rumored to have conch shells but I guess I wasn't that lucky. We had also gone post light rain, so the long road there was covered in puddles of unknown depths. Would highly recommend a generous application of bug repellent if you go. We were swarmed by a little cloud of gnats and I got little non-itchy polka dots on my arms by the time I was through -Seagate Horseback Riding: Only a good idea if you're intermediate to advance in horseback riding. The horses are not lead or strung together. There were also parts of the ride where the horses seemed to be trained to go a a trot. At these speeds, I almost slid off the horse! We had a lovely four nights at Casa de Amistad! Mike and John and Megan took such good care of us, spending a ton of time orienting us to the island and providing perfect recommendations based on what we were looking for. (And we saw them doing this regularly with all the new arrivals as well - they were consistently warm and excited to introduce the island each time despite probably having given the same orientation talk a million times already!) Our room was very comfortable and the location was very convenient in the heart of Isabella II. Most of the beaches on the Caribbean side were only a 15min-30min drive. Casa de Amistad had beach chairs, towels and coolers for us to borrow, making every beach trip a breeze. It was a very memorable stay and we highly recommend Casa de Amistad! read more

An absolute gem of a place. From the accommodating owners (above and beyond), friendly staff, very comfy beds, high end linens and towels, this place is clean, safe, and abundant parking. John was very communicative about the reservation and provided insight into what would be needed to enjoy the island. Mike was so helpful in providing information about where to go and what to do. There were free coolers, ice blocks, beach chairs and umbrellas for our use. There was a spacious and clean kitchen and common area for our use. Ice and water were readily available and there was an honor bar with beer and bottled water. The pool was clean and the perfect temperature. Everyone went out of their way to ensure we had a great stay. Make reservations early because this amazing place fills up fast. read more

My favorite place in the world. Nothing like walking into that beautiful courtyard and feeling your shoulders fully release and KNOWING you are going to have the best time and get the best rest. First, the hosts could not be more amazing. I didn't have to plan a thing before arriving. They were quick with recommendations for beach spots, boat trips, bio bay tours, snorkel and dives, restaurants, sunset drink seats, and so much more. The BEDS! I have so much trouble sleeping-the conditions have to be perfect. They have the BEST beds. I slept like a champion each night which meant that I was totally rested and ready to seize the day. It makes such a difference when traveling and only have a limited amount of time to explore everything. After a big day of beaching, swimming, and snorkeling, it was such a pleasure to return to the courtyard crack open a Medella and talk to other travelers and our hosts about what we'd done and what we were going to do the next day. The location! LOVE being able to wake up, have some coffee and then grab breakfast at Rising Roost or Buen Provecho. I usually explore menus but I feel in love with the breakfast bowl at Rising Roost on my first day and kept coming back or more. If you're traveling with others, be sure to get some "table" french toast for dessert. Equally amazing to be able to walk to all the prime dinner and drink spots and night, to grocery stores and lovely little shops. I forgot a few items but Mike and John had extra and were more than happy to spot me. Cannot get over their hospitality. Already booked my trip for next April but I'm not sure I can wait that long. read more

If you're staying in Vieques, Casa de Amistad is a pretty good choice. At $89 a night during high season (at the time of this writing), it's pretty inexpensive. Owen, who runs the place, is very personable, and is really quite helpful. Overall, it's a very social guest house,with a pleasant shared kitchen, a reading room, a little Internet cafe (and free Wi-fi!), and a backyard and a roof deck where people can be found relaxing and drinking pina coladas and Medalla Lights. I only have a few beefs with the place: 1. They kind of nickel-and-dime you a little on the waters, beers, snorkeling equipment, and beach towels. At $2, $3, $10, and $2 respectively, the prices are a little steep, but I guess that's one way they recoup the cost of running an otherwise inexpensive guest house on a remote island. 2. The coquis (a type of frog endemic to Puerto Rico and outlying islands) are loud as hell and like to hang out in the bushes and birds of paradise plants just outside the rooms. Generally the coqui makes a rather pleasant whistling noise, but it gets a little old when they're blaring it at 100 decibels right outside your bedroom window. This isn't really the guest house's fault per se, but it wouldn't kill them to chop down some of the vegetation out there to make it a little less hospitable to our froggy friends. 3. Our bathroom had only some hanging beads separating it from the main room, leading to some slightly awkward situations. My girlfriend and I have been together 5 years, so it's not that big a deal, but it's not terribly romantic. Would it have killed them to put a door there? Despite the above beefs, I'd still probably stay here again if I were to go back to Vieques. read more

We found out about this hotel on tripadvisor.com where they have 46 reviews and are rated five stars. The website does not do this hotel justice. The place is extremely clean and extremely comfortable, and is aesthically outstanding. The communal kitchen is an added bonus we stored some of our own food in there and were able to cook. We did get woken up early by a rooster but I can't fault the hotel for that. We did end up staying in one of the rooms with a bathroom that was not attached, but it was our private bathroom and we kept it locked with our stuff in it. On top of all that the owners are extremely informative and helpful. They gave us a ride all the way across the island where we could rent a scooter for the day. I say top notch read more

I stayed at Casa de Amistad for 6 nights on my trip to Vieques, and highly recommend it. The place is conveniently located in the heart of Isabel II, within walking distance to several restaurants, stores and bars, and we had a great time staying there. It's a pretty small place (about 10 rooms?) but it has everything you need: common kitchen, internet access, pool and backyard, beach towels, snorkeling equipment (for a small fee) etc... To boot, the owners Owen and David were very friendly, and always willing to help when we need advice on things to do or places to go. My only (very minor) complaints: the shower in our bedroom kind of sucked (no pressure, hard to set the temperature), and we were woken up every morning at around 6am by the roosters outside (though I'm guessing this must be the same pretty much anywhere you stay on Vieques). Also, some of the tenants complained we were being too loud at 11pm, when all we were doing was having a conversation in one of the common areas... wtf?! (I suppose this last complaint is addressed at the tenants, and not the guesthouse). But seriously, this is a great place, very reasonably priced (I think we paid $80 a night), and I would definitely go again! read more

We have just returned from a two night stay in Vieques. Overall, the owner Owen could not be more accommodating. The place was also stocked with all you need for chill time on the beach (complimentary first towels, chairs & cooler. No umbrella, but we found coconut tree shades). Kitchen was also well stocked for quick breakfast with coffee in the beautifully landscaped backyard. We stayed in Rm 2 with two full beds. While space is tight, storage solutions were done very cleverly. Plus, why would you need a big room when you have Vieques to explore? Stand up shower was a little tight for me and I'm kinda small. The only hard part of the stay was noise level. Coquis throughout the night, roosters in the morning, dogs fighting, and drunk inconsiderate bastards banging metal gates next to our bed and dropping stuff at 2am- ugh. And, I'm used to lots of noises! Not much owners can do about that, though, so I suggest ear plugs. That aside, Casa de Amistad was a great option for Vieques. Taxi drivers, rental car company, etc, all know where this is. read more

Very friendly, quaint, inexpensive guest house. I stayed at Casa de Amistad for a week in February 2009 and really enjoyed myself... the owners are very attentive yet laid back, friendly, helpful, and the guesthouse has a very homey feel to it. My friends describe it as a "really nice hostel" in the sense that there are lots of shared spaces and a great kitchen and dining room area to prepare meals in. So far, Owen has informed us of activities and provided us with sites to make arrangements on Isla de Vieques. Prices are reasonable AND he gave great feedback on how/where to rent cars. Owen seems the be very familiar with travelers' concerns as without asking, he addressed the smallest nuances that come with navigating a new place. 4 stars for these very few steps. Stayed here for 2 or 3 nights with my SO. This is a great location if you're coming from the ferry since it's a quick 3 min walk. There are plenty of places to walk to for food. You would probably need to rent a car if you do stay here to be able to head to the beaches or to Esperanza. There is plenty of parking in the back of the guesthouse. We stayed in room 6, which had a bathroom that was separate from the unit. Minor inconvenience, but it was fine. The room was a bit dimly lit, but it's okay because we were out during the day and mostly only in the room to sleep. This place has everything, a beautiful courtyard with comfortable seating and a small pool. There is a shared kitchen and dining area. Coffee was provided every morning. All sorts of utensils, cups, plates, etc. were provided, but you need to clean up after yourself. Wifi was included, even though it was a bit weak in room 6. They also provide beach towels, chairs and coolers for your trip to the beach at no extra charge. David was extremely friendly and accommodating. He was extremely helpful in describing the basics of Isabel and Vieques to us. However, if you want a better view and a more touristy location, find a place to stay in Esperanza. Isabel seems to be less tourist friendly than Esperanza since it seems more local-life and less beachfront-life, but Isabel is still a nice place to stay. I would recommend Casa de Amistad to anyone and would be willing to stay here again if we come back to Vieques. I actually did not have the pleasure of staying here with my friends but I do have to give my brief encounter with Casa Amistad a 5 star review. Me and my two girlfriends arrived on the island of off the 6 pm ferry! We had heard from other locals I'm old San Juan it would be easy to find a cheap hostel relatively easy. It was however not ! The sun was starting to set, us girls were starting to worry! A local pointed us to Casa Amistad and the guy there (have since forgotten his name unfortunately) welcomed us in straight away. Immediately, you feel welcomed and the place has such charm. Unfortunately at the time the house had no room availability so the gentleman rang other hostels to check availability and booked us a taxi to lazy jacks hostel where we were set up! Can't thank Casa Amistad enough for their free hospitality. Hope to stay here my next visit to the island! read more

What a PERFECT place to stay in Vieques, PR! Having explored much of the island, I didn't once come across a place I would have enjoyed more. It was in the perfect location, with delicious restaurants, the water, and even the car rental company within easy walking distance. The guesthouse itself was very serene, clean, and just what I was hoping for, if not more. We stayed in room 5, which was one of the smallest, with a separate (but still private) bathroom, and it was just as convenient as having it in the room. No problemo. Dan and Owen are wonderful hosts, and made us feel like friends from check in to check out. They know how to create a comforting atmosphere and it is MUCH appreciated! read more

My husband and I visited in January 2016 and were 100% satisfied. This is a great place to stay in Isabel. Close to restaurants, bars, gift shops, and all the local shops. Top class, premium service from Owen is what you can expect while visiting. He is ready to serve and make your stay enjoyable. We took advantage of the free coolers, ice packs, and beach chairs. I just got back from a wedding in vieques, Puerto Rico. My parents and I looked for a nice place to stay and I came up on casa de amistad... Now I must say this place is really nicer then I expected!!... It's a nice little guesthouse for people who want a place to rest from a long day out.. It's right down the street from a lot of restaurants and bars... But I suggest you rent a car if you want to get around... They have cabs for 5 bucks a person but I still recommend you rent a car... My family didn't really need a car because we stayed mostly with out family for the wedding but I will rent one the next time... Owen is also a nice person to talk to and he will help you out if you need anything... Very friendly person and I would stay here again.. A great place for couples to stay at... My parents are very picky and didn't like that there weren't TVs in the room but I didn't come on vacation to watch tv ... Idk about my parents but I'm gonna stay here again the next time I come!!! Hopefully I have gf by then to stay with lol... Again rent a car when you stay on this island !!!!!! If you wanna explore it!!! In fact, we accidentally got stranded on the other side of the island (we didn't realize the taxi cabs stopped running at night) and had to call them to come pick us up. What a great find! Owen was super nice and very excited to have us. (And it seems like anyone)...he is just one of those people who are made to run a guest house, super friendly and very warm! We loved that we could borrow beach chairs, snorkel equipment, coolers and stock it with beer and water from the honor bar...beats having to make a stop at the market. The room was cozy and very clean (the housekeeping staff clearly takes their job seriously). The pool area was also nice, but other guests seemed to stake claim which was fine because we wanted to hit the beaches. Their dog Isabel was super cute and friendly too.
