Thanks John and Mike for making our stay warm and welcome. From day one since we booked with them it was a pleasure to receive a confirmation email with a lot of details for us to enjoy the island and facilitate all kind of arrangements. We stayed for my birthday 2 nights at this amazing place and the experience was nothing but wonderful. They take the time to recommend places to eat, visit and see. The hotel is cute and every detail in the room is well thought. I even got flowers and a note from them when I got to my room. Room that was meticulously clean and every towel and linen smelled wonderful. The hotel offers a beautiful pool and complimentary beach towels, chairs and coolers. Thanks guys for making us feel like home. We will be back for sure and hope soon.

If you're staying in Vieques, Casa de Amistad is a pretty good choice. At $89 a night during high season (at the time of this writing), it's pretty inexpensive. Owen, who runs the place, is very personable, and is really quite helpful. Overall, it's a very social guest house, with a pleasant shared kitchen, a reading room, a little Internet cafe (and free Wi-fi!), and a backyard and a roof deck where people can be found relaxing and drinking pina coladas and Medalla Lights. I only have a few beefs with the place: 1. They kind of nickel-and-dime you a little on the waters, beers, snorkeling equipment, and beach towels. At $2, $3, $10, and $2 respectively, the prices are a little steep, but I guess that's one way they recoup the cost of running an otherwise inexpensive guest house on a remote island. 2. The coquis (a type of frog endemic to Puerto Rico and outlying islands) are loud as hell and like to hang out in the bushes and birds of paradise plants just outside the rooms. Generally the coqui makes a rather pleasant whistling noise, but it gets a little old when they're blaring it at 100 decibels right outside your bedroom window. This isn't really the guest house's fault per se, but it wouldn't kill them to chop down some of the vegetation out there to make it a little less hospitable to our froggy friends. 3. Our bathroom had only some hanging beads separating it from the main room, leading to some slightly awkward situations. My girlfriend and I have been together 5 years, so it's not that big a deal, but it's not terribly romantic. Would it have killed them to put a door there? Despite the above beefs, I'd still probably stay here again if I were to go back to Vieques.

Very nice and pleasant stay. (4 stars) We booked a room for 5 nights and enjoyed our stay in Vieques. Booking online was quick. Location was convenient. Check in was easy. Room was clean and just right. AC and fan kept us cool, and opened the windows one day. Nice shower and bathroom. Clean backyard with pool and tables and chairs. Parking was convenient at the back. Price was right. Shared kitchen and dining room was nice, and met some nice people.

We found out about this hotel on tripadvisor.com where they have 46 reviews and are rated five stars. The website does not do this hotel justice. The place is extremely clean and extremely comfortable, and is aesthically outstanding. The communal kitchen is an added bonus we stored some of our own food in there and were able to cook. We did get woken up early by a rooster but I can't fault the hotel for that. We did end up staying in one of the rooms with a bathroom that was not attached, but it was our private bathroom and we kept it locked with our stuff in it. On top of all that the owners are extremely informative and helpful. They gave us a ride all the way across the island where we could rent a scooter for the day. I say top notch

You could stay here and relax at the pool and not regret staying inside the compound walls. Even when other guests are staying in different apartments there is plenty of room and everyone blends seamlessly. The island itself is rustic and remote. It is a unique experience, not a busy fishing vacation spot or overwhelmed by spectacular resorts and tourists but a slow and sleepy relaxing experience. Dont expect much from the nightlife- do your drinking at the beach during the day and at dinner. There are some great restaurant- I especially like the Tin Box and Duffys. Breakfast at BellyButtons is a must and a cold drink there anytime in the afternoon is a treat. The beaches are some of the most beautiful I have ever been to. I prefer La Chiva but you cant go wrong anywhere. After a few visits you will meet many ex pats who will be there every time you return and always willing to have a drink with you. I cant wait to return to Casa De Claire.

The host was absolutely amazing and so friendly. He let us use his car when we needed to go to the airport and he picked us up from the dock when we arrived. The place was very clean and the pool was amazing. It has an outdoor kitchen with a fridge that had drinks in there (he told us we were welcome to any that we wanted), table, chairs and grill. We were there for a friends' wedding so there was a good size group that were split up in other houses and when we mentioned that to our host, he told us we were more than welcome to invite everyone over to hang out at the pool. They were very gracious and when we were making the reservations prior to our vacation, Claire always responded quickly and answered any question we had. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who loves to just sit back and relax and enjoy themselves. Oh..we also had fun picking the mangos and eating them while watching the horses that would just waltz in and graze behind the house. I will post pictures if I'm able to. Love love love Casa De Claire and I really hope to make it back there soon.

The prices/night are very reasonable so I definitely recommend staying here. You won't get the newest amenities or anything like you would at the W hotel nearby, but as long as you don't care about that, you'll be happy here. It's a humble yet clean guesthouse very close to the main Isabel II area on the north side of Vieques. It's walking distance to convenience stores, restaurants, ATMs, car rentals, equipment rentals, and the ferry port! (15 mins) To get to the south side of the island near Esperanza, where there's beautiful beaches like La Chiva (blue beach), Secret Beach, and Sun Bay Beach, you'll need to rent a car or call a taxi that's $5/pp (I recommend 741TAXI). When checking in, they helped us book a glass-bottom biobay tour right away which was important because they get booked quickly! When we went to the beaches, Joe also loaned us beach towels and his beach chairs!! The guesthouse does not provide shampoo and conditioner (take note) and since it was too late to go out to get anymore, Joe went back to his house next door and gave us some in plastic cups! Since rental cars were all sold out, Joe recommended his friend Edgar who might be available to drive us around all day as a personal chauffeur for a fixed (and what I thought, very reasonable) price. We ended up going with him and had the best day ever - hassle free. Coffee is free in the morning and breakfast is additional. They were so incredibly accommodating and helpful during our whole stay, our Vieques visit would not have been the same without them.

When I reached out for assistance or some level of accommodation, Amanda's response was to "just take a plane, it's only an 8-minute flight." For a family of four, that's about $70 per person $280 one way with no guarantee of getting a ferry back. That could easily turn into another $280, bringing the total to $560. That's not a small or casual expense, and it felt unrealistic to suggest it so casually. What made this more frustrating is that I wasn't even asking for a full refund. I was simply hoping for some understanding and a reasonable accommodation given the situation. As a comparison, the car rental company we used showed genuine care without me even asking, they refunded 75%. That level of consideration stood out. In contrast, the response I received here felt dismissive. Instead of acknowledging the situation or the financial impact, it felt like assumptions were made about what I could afford. That's not the kind of customer service you expect when traveling with your family. Just something to keep in mind as you plan your stay customer service and empathy matter, especially when things don't go as planned.
