We love supporting our local community as it is still recovering from Hurricane Ian. We crossed the bridge towards St. James City and towards the Cafe. It was bustling and it looks like a lot of snow birds have found this hidden gem. Everything is homemade and baked there. We ordered our usual- Scrambled eggs piled high on a Croissant with bacon and cheese. A delicious crispy concoction that keeps us coming back! Not to mention the fresh ground coffee and the little patio outside overlooking a peaceful lake. We ate our sandwiches outside in the cool beautiful breezy weather. So we decided to take a ride and take Freckles with us because she really freaks out from the storms. So off we went north toward Punta Gorda. I was craving a really good cappuccino, Dave a frozen frappe and Freckle's a pup cup. We decided to give Patty a visit at the Punta Gorda Coffee and Tea. It was just too hot to sit outside on their lovely patio, facing Fisherman's Village and the River. So hot and heavy that Dave went in and ordered for us while Freckles and I stayed in the comfortable air conditioned car. The staff is so helpful. A few times they have helped Dave and brought the drinks right to the car. My cappuccino is always perfect, foamy and delicious. I can't say enough about David's frappe. It was frozen coffee with chocolate snd caramel and topped with homemade whipped cream. Gosh, I've been on a diet since I was born and it's just not fair! But I did taste his-perfect for a hot humid day. Freckles was waiting for her pup cup that has whip cream and little dog bone treats on top. She really enjoys it and she forgot about the bad weather. So after we headed home into the heavy rain, happy to have left the house for a nice treat.

I will say that half the reason the experience was so great was because of our server, Stacy. Stacy needs a shout out for her fabulous service and accommodating sweetness! I am not allergic, so I asked for my side to contain dairy. The waitress brought the tiered plates and said, "Just a minute. Let me check that you have the correct side." She moved the plates around a bit and then said we were all set. Even with all of this, my daughter ended up with the dairy side. After she ate the food and began to feel ill, the waitress came back and said, "Oh you ate the side with dairy." She didn't seem to think it was a big deal. She just said, "Let me get your bill." I spoke to the lady at the door and told her the situation, saying I did not feel like I should have to pay the entire amount as neither of us got the food we were supposed to get. She said, "Let me see what I can do." She never came back to talk to me. The bill was cut in half. My daughter is also allergic to caffeine. The waitress did not know that "decafe" and "caffeine free" are two different things and that "decafe" does indeed have caffeine. My daughter was sick for an entire day of our vacation. This establishment really needs to be more careful with allergies. Thankfully my daugher's dairy allergy is not life threatening and she knew not to order decafe. But what if that were not the case?
