An all time debate in Chicago+ across the nation is who does the best burger. It was this year I learned that this place is run+operated by the same people that do the Red Hot ranch burger that some people think is Chicagos best burger. They are cash only with an ATM right outside. I was excited about this because this location is lot closer to where I live compared to north side location of Red Hot ranches. Came here on a whim just around the time the Sox game a stones throw away started (so I think we beat a lot of the crowd here). We got two hot dogs and two fries for like $11 (cash only) which we found to be an amazing deal. Had not realized that the Red Hot Ranch burger was also brought to 35th St. Red Hots. Looks like this was introduced to all RHR locations since 2021 and menu and prices are similar to RHR on Ashland. No fish sandwich and no self-serve fountain, but this is a smaller place with still a counter for indoor seating for bad weather. $7.23 (or $8 incl tax) gets you their double cheese with a generous amount of fries. If the weather is good you got two picnic tables up front and two on the side with umbrella shades. They've got ketchup bottles ready to borrow if you're dining inside/outside. read more

One of my favorite places in all of Chicago for many years. This small, unassuming hot dog stand serves up one of the best polish and fries in the city. It's not "encased meats" and it doesn't have foie gras or any foo foo stuff on it, it's just a simple polish or hot dog the Chicago way. They throw the fresh cut fries in and wrap it all up together. I don't live around there anymore so visits are much less frequent, but I noticed last year they expanded their menu and now serve some pretty killer burgers. I keep meaning to try one but I'm a creature of habit and always pick my favorite polish and fries. Someday! And here's a tip: get the food and eat there during warmer months. There's some great people watching to do. On any given day you'll see a steady flow of kids on bikes, cops, construction workers, cabbies, com ed linemen, businessmen, black folks, white folks, every kind of folks.
