My friend and I were waiting for them to call our order number but it was taking a while so I went to the counter and the order had been ready sitting there they just weren't calling out the orders. I'm glad I went up otherwise my food would have gotten cold! I'm not sure if their sound systems were down to call out the order numbers for pick up or if they just don't do that. I came here with my friend as I had never tried the beef sandwich and she highly recommended the cheese fries. I also heard great things about the chocolate cake slice. I added peppers to the beef sandwich to give it some spice but besides that it was bland! I was disappointed but I thought the Chicago dog would make up for it but the bun was soggy. The best part of my order were the cheese fries and I got a free slice of chocolate cake since it was my birthday month! The chocolate cake was the best chocolate cake I've ever had that wasn't homemade. Very moist and lots of frosting! I would come back for the fries and the cake, but I wouldn't order the beef sandwich or Chicago dog again.

The Polish Sausage they're serving up at Jim's is so much better than any I've had before that it's almost an entirely different thing. It's just so flavorful and delicious. The spicing is phenomenal and the sausage itself is extremely above average. And it's taken over the top by the fresh bun and superb sautéed onions. I joked that we should start every day with one of these sausages, and while we didn't actually do that, I feel like that would've only enhanced our trip.

The polish is still one of my best around nice and juicy (pause) with a nice snap to them. The onions provide a slight sweetness with the tangy bite of the mustard just hits so great!! 8.9/10! The menu is straight to the point and the restaurant itself is pretty small. You'll be standing eating inside or you can go outside where they have tables. The employees are incredibly efficient! The line moves quick and I recommend reviewing the menu ahead of time. For the food, I ordered the Italian beef, French fries and Italian ice. The first bite of the Italian beef was incredible. There was so much flavor and the peppers gave it a great kick. I ended up ordering another one. The fries were fresh and I would get again. The Italian ice was the star as well. It was so good! I can't even put it to words. The whole meal was perfect. I cannot wait to try it again. Thank you so much Johnnie's Beef!

So it was all about the beef and sausage sandwich for me and I will say I found the sausage to be spicier than the peppers themselves which was totally awesome as anything that's hot I'm game for, while it wasn't overly bearing hot it just had a good flavor to it with every component especially the beef itself which honestly I kinda wish I would have only gotten the beef as I just enjoyed it's flavor on that yummy bread with the sweet and the hot peppers! They had a tamale here too and it was ok it was 4 small pieces that were easy to share or had a good corn flavor to it while it was yummy It really reminded me of the ones that you can find on the corner of Rampart & Beverly in LA as the flavor was very similar to me. One of the biggest goodies here was that lemon ice like that was sooo yummy such a good lemon flavor all iced out it really hit the spot for being one of the best lemon ice I've ever had! Overall super yummy little spot doing it right so do yourself a favor and just go to Johnnie's you'll be happy you did!

The food was ok, or so-so...which is bad considering their history. The lechón was mediocre, no seasoning (before you could see it on there.) now it looks like chicken or turkey. The alcapurrias were super greasy, hollow (?) and flavorless. Alcapurrias should be more substantial, not super soft like these. The rice was ok, but again it had no authentic flavor. The pastelillos (ground beef empanadas) were thin and dry. They may have been from yesterday. The passion fruit juice (parcha) is still delicious and the only good thing I had, besides Coco Rico soda. They must have new owners trying to mimic old recipes because this was our second chance attempt. We will now go to La Bomba, Jibaritos y Más or Las Palmas when they open.

She's Mexican but told me about this place. She said there are several food trucks stationed in Humboldt Park, yet this one is her favorite. I believe I had Puerto Rican food before when I was out and about in the city, though I never paid attention to any aromatic mobile vehicle in this neighborhood. Umm...Rosa J., did I not tell you to stay vigilant? Fortunately I had some cash on hand. I scrambled $7 for an order of bistec mixta, which came with arroz. Wow, the rice was SO fresh, and the steak was easy to chew and flavorful. When the young lady was preparing for my food, I was staring at a copious amount of "frituras." They smelled heavenly and were definitely soliciting my taste bud. Well, I gotta get back to work. Fried food doesn't mesh too well with my working stomach. Surely we will meet each other again when I have a day off. I didn't see any credit card machine inside the truck, so I have no doubt it is cash-only. I didn't really notice if their hours were posted on the exterior. I bet it depends based on weather or seasonality.
