I love this food truck! It's typically parked on the corner of Kingsbury and Erie, at Ward Montgomery park in River North until 3pm. The guy working the window is incredibly friendly, smiley and quick. Sometimes he even hands out little soup samples for while you're waiting- I love that touch! They have a pretty comprehensive menu for a kitchen on wheels, with everything from tacos and burritos to tortas and tamales to nachos, quesadillas, elote, soup and even birria ramen. I haven't tried it all, but can speak to the tacos- they slap!!!! I love the carne asada (so juicy, especially with their delicious mild green salsa and a squeeze of lime) and the veggie tacos (which come complete with rice, zucchini, peppers, cheese and avocado- yum!) The prices are really reasonable, especially in comparison to other lunch options in River North. I love that it's right on the park, so you can lay out in the grass to eat your meal in the nicer months. There's a lot to love about the Mexi-Tacos food truck, like the quesadilla. However, not everything was a slam dunk. The Chicken Quesadilla was pretty much perfect! The chicken was tender and full of spice and flavor, the cheese was melty and gooey, and the veggies were in perfect amount. The meats were not at all skimped on, and it was a hearty portion overall. Everything tasted hot and fresh, making the slight wait worth it. The Taco Salad with Chicken was a swing and a miss. On the surface you get a fair amount of the same flavorful chicken as the quesadilla, as well as some avocado and crema. However, it felt as thought something was missing. After some thought, I realized this was a dressing: as there was nothing to tie together the vegetables, especially once the meat was all gone. Using hot sauce as dressing is a possibility, but not the best move for a variety of reasons. Speaking of: big bonus points for the home-made spicy sauce, it brought both flavor and serious heat. Finally, the service is polite, and the prices are reasonable for what you get, especially considering the price of everything. Final verdict: Of the two trucks parked next to one another, "The Orange One" delivers on some seriously tasty eats. However, this comes with the caveat that one must know what to order. read more

The food is amazing and with it getting cold their Birria Roman hit the spot. It was so delicious. You can smell the seasoning once you walk in the room. Heck I smelled it all the way walking back to my office. The husband and wife pair work so well together. They always make you feel like your home and they are serving you from a truck. I found this truck located right outside the clark/lake train station. I'm constantly looking for the best places to eat Mexican street food in Chicago as there is a lot of bad Mexican food unfortunately. This truck is the truth, however. It's not on their menu but they actually have killer birria (slow roasted braised steak). I got it in a irritó. Their salsa roja is fantastic too and went great with the burrito. Elote is authentic and made from roasted corn on the cub then sliced off. Many places in Chicago when I get elote it's clearly limp, canned corn that is heated up. This place is fantastic. read more

Is it weird the thing I miss the most about not going to the office anymore is a food truck? I love love love Mexi Tacos. For a food truck with limited space, they have a pretty large menu, and everything I've bought from them has been good. But my favorite thing was stopping by on my walk from the train station on cold winter mornings for a breakfast burrito. They're huge, packed with eggs, bacon, hash browns, etc. and you get red or green sauce with it. While they made it fresh, they always offered up a free sample of whatever delicious soup they had in a Dixie cup and there's nothing better when it's 10 degrees outside and depending on when I got off the train, maybe still dark. Warm up with a bit of soup, then walk the mile to my office and eat that killer burrito. I'd usually be fine the rest of the day and just eat dinner at home in the evening. If you see them out and about, give them a try. You won't regret it. read more

There was a food truck outside Ward (A Montgomery) park that I decided to give it a try and glad I did. They gave out free a sample of chicken/rice soup which was excellent. I would definitely get a cup or bowl of that soup - it had a great taste. I also got the taco combination with a chicken taco and 2 chicken quesadillas with rice and beans. Tacos definitely were tasty. However at $3.50 a piece and a $1.58 tip these things were tiny. Total ripoff. You aren't paying downtown rent prices. How are you more expensive and yet have less overhead? Lesson learned. read more

This is my favorite food truck outside the Deloitte office on wacker. The elotes are the best in the city - hands down. Other things to try are the stuffed pepper tacos (best thing on the menu) and the tamales. The tacos other than the stuffed pepper are pretty meh but that one taco keeps me drooling until lunch time. Usually, I avoid ordering quesadillas because I feel like I can make good ones at home, but I ordered one from Mexi-Tacos and... omg. Amazing! Hands down the best quesadilla I ever had. I regularly see the Mexi Taco truck parked behind the NBC tower on weekday mornings while walking to work. Finally stopped for a breakfast taco (my favorite way to consume breakfast) and dang that was good!
