This is a frustrating review to write because I've used Mario for 3+ years for regular HVAC tune ups with no issue. He's always been responsive, helpful, and did a great job. However, I recently had a horrible experience with him and his team. Our HVAC unit wasn't working and we called Mario and his team to repair. They charged us $2,350 for a few pounds of refrigerant, sealant and 3-4 hours of labor. When the work was done, they claimed that they'd used gauges and detected that the leak was sealed. We sent a $545 payment on June 3 for the refrigerant and labor, a $350 payment on June 5 for the sealant and labor a $1,500 payment on June 12 for the repair of the leak. I asked for detailed receipts of the work four separate times and the detailed receipts were never sent over. On top of that, a few weeks later we had the same exact issue with our HVAC unit. When we called a different repair person, the refrigerant had dropped significantly AGAIN and we were told that the unit was still leaking. We reached out to Mario various times asking for receipts and explaining our frustration. As of today, we've gotten no response, no refund, and no promise to return and look into why the leak that they claimed that they'd fixed was not fixed. All in all we're out almost $2,400 with no true fix to the HVAC issue that we called Mario & his team for to begin with. I'm willing to remove this review or bump up my ratings if I get some sort of response. But at this point we've been waiting for a response and requesting receipts for over a month with no action. read more

This is my followup review. After the initial repair by Mario, my furnace faltered again. Since I didn't have a satisfactory first experience with him, I contracted a competitor and they told me the repai done by 312 climate control was not done appropriately and therefore the furnace was running forcefully causing the second incident. Basically Mario had put a bandaid solution on my furnace, overcharged me and caused my unit to deteriorate more. Shameful business practices read more

Thank you Mario for being so efficient and informative. We recently bought our home and I know it's time to start preparing for the Chicago cold/winter. I knew my radiators needed to be bled/purged. Mario offered this service along with a radiator tune up at a very reasonable rate. I sent a quote request this past Saturday I responded on Tuesday and Mario was able to fit us into his schedule today (Wednesday morning). Mario was thorough and gave us honest advice. I definitely recommend Mario. Mario, you may see many referrals as I work in the insurance industry and have numerous requests from clients on who they should call for different home services! read more

I haven't written a Yelp review in a while, but Mario came through for me in a major way and I wanted to give him a shout out. Our landlord/slumlord was being non-responsive about fixing our broken heat. Mario was able to squeeze us in that day and fixed it. He then sent a helpful email describing his recommendation and detailed invoice for me to send to my landlord. He would have done more to fix it, but was restrained by the fact that we weren't the owners. Mario struck the perfect balance of fixing our furnace so we had heat, but not doing the bigger changes that would have been inappropriate because we weren't the owners of the unit. He was great at communicating his timing and even followed up with me after to check if the heat was still working. Great service. read more

Mario is excellent. He has come out to my place twice now for a heating tune up and recently I had an AC issue. Within minutes he was able to identify the issue and was upfront about the charges. He seems very knowledgeable and seems to really enjoy his work. I will absolutely use Mario again, should I need any more AC/Heating help. read more

Mario came out quickly after my 30+ year old AC went out (with a pregnant wife in the house). Provided a very honest quote, and replaced my AC and furnace. He was dealing with his own family issues, and even stayed until midnight one night to make sure my family had AC. He was professional, honest, and did a fantastic job. Attached is a photo of the new high-efficiency furnace Mario installed. read more

312 Climate Control - High efficiency furnace install. Very clean look! - Heating & Air Conditioning/HVAC Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

Mario was great about helping us fix a gas leak and getting our condo all prepared for winter! He was very honest about what could and couldn't be done with our system. All pricing was extremely fair and transparent. I would recommend his services! read more

Mario was very responsive, on time and very professional. He took the time to educate me on my HVAC system while he performed and maintenance check and cleaning. I will definitely be going to him for all my future HVAC needs! read more

I was so happy with the service from 312. My air conditioning had stopped working over the summer, and I was able to easily make an appointment that fit around my schedule. The AC unit was on the roof, Mario took photos of all the pieces he would need to show me and also sent me them so that I could have them for any future need. He also walked me through every step of what he was doing as well as my options. I will definitely use 312 for any future hvac needs! read more

I highly recommend Mario! My A/C went out the evening of 7/3 and we were in touch first thing in the morning of 7/4 despite the fact that it was a holiday and he had a very bad cold. He prioritized coming out to see me first thing on 7/5 to work around my schedule (I was leaving early the next day to go out of town) and was prompt and informative. His rates are reasonable and he explains everything he does in a way that makes sense to someone with little to no knowledge of these things (like me!). He has been in touch post-visit to make sure everything is still working correctly. Definitely use Mario for all your HVAC needs! read more

Mario is just as awesome as all the other reviewers have noted. I called him and got a same day appointment right before a heat wave since, of course, my A/C went out. I appreciated how he explained everything to me and asked me if I wanted to go on the roof with him, which I did. I echo one woman's comment that he did not at all exhibit any kind of talking down to me because of my gender. The price point was exactly what I had researched and I was happy to have my A/C working in less than an hour. Mario will be my HVAC person from now on. read more

I have been a customer for years now and wanted to let other people in Chicago know that Mario is someone you can trust. He is very professional and explains everything (without talking down to you). I have had other HVAC companies and it never was a good experience. I feel like he is on your side for getting the most out of your money and figures out the root of the problem. He is also great a communicating timing :) read more

I'm a returning client because Mario has been nothing but a consummate professional. I had a difficult situation arise but Mario worked out a solution for me in a timely manner. I would refer Mario to any friends or family that would need AC repair in the Chicagoland area. read more

I've been using Mario for all my heating/cooling service needs for quite a few years now. I honestly think that calling him professional doesn't do him justice; he goes out of his way to treat his customers like family. He takes the time to fully explain the options available to you and the pros and cons of each choice, and he gives recommendations based on what he would tell his own family and friends. One particular service call that stands out in my mind is when my heat went out on a cold December evening. I called Mario, who was working late on a previous call, and he assured me that he would stop by that night. He spent hours at my house unclogging difficult to access hoses to ensure that he got our heat working before he left, and despite the late night and several hours of labor, he only charged us for the service call because he didn't need any additional parts. He's earned my continued business and my recommendations to friends and family. Mario's a good dude and a hard worker and will take care of you. read more

Mario was extremely helpful in explaining everything he was doing and the process of what I could do on my own to check things. I will hire Mario year to year to service my HVAC system. read more

Mario is our go-to guy whenever we need HVAC servicing. He's great to work with and is diligent about letting me know what he's doing and why. Absolutely fantastic customer service and replies promptly! He's very transparent with the issues he finds and provides honest and clear recommendations. Highly recommend his services - you will NOT be disappointed! A true professional! read more

My husband found Mario on Yelp early one Saturday morning after a different technician cancelled on us less than an hour before he was supposed to arrive. We asked Mario what was the earliest time he had available and he said he could be at our home in 30 minutes! Mario arrived and quickly identified and solved our problem and our air conditioning was back on in less than 20 minutes. He was very professional and his rate was very reasonable. I am so glad we found him and will definitely contact him for any future needs. Thank you Mario for an amazing job and quick, reasonably priced service! read more

Mario is by far the best trade person I have ever worked with. I've known him for a number of years and he has helped me out many times and done excellent work. He has done tune up, and service repair work on my furnace and AC units. I have never felt luckier to have this guy to call when things go wrong. He is knowledgeable, personable, professional and one of the most honest people around. I would never call another HVAC service as long as Mario is around and in business. If you want somebody who will go above and beyond, who takes pride in his work and will do whatever it takes to get it done right, he's your guy. read more

Mario was able to come to our condo 2 hours after I spoke to him. He ordered the part and our furnace was up and running great just 24 hours later. He was very friendly, did a great job, and his price was very reasonable. Although I hope to not see him again anytime soon, I'd book him again without a second thought! read more

Thank God for Mario Yapez! Today was a super cold day, in the low 20s...and as luck would have it (my luck, anyway) when I went over to the vacant house I'm selling, just to check on things, I had the scare of my life! After I was already inside the house, the furnace kicked on, and it made such a noise as to make me run, bad words spilling out of my mouth left and right, heart racing, nearly in need of a diaper, all the way out the door! I thought it was going to blow! It sounded like an airplane taking off, it was so loud and terrifying! I stood outside, listening, and when it finished its cycle, I ran back inside as fast as I could to shut it down. BUT...if I didn't get it back up and running soon, I would be facing frozen pipes throughout the house, plus possible damage to the dishwasher, washing machine, and refrigerator...and even cracked drywall and a busted toilet bowl. Think that's an exaggeration? Think again, it already happened to me once before, in another vacant house, when I was out of town and no one was there to turn on the furnace when it dipped below freezing. My plaster cracked like the shell of a dropped hard boiled egg, two toilet bowls cracked in half, pipes busted everywhere. Anyway, back to Mario... I was in a big panic, because this weather in an unheated home can cost thousands of dollars in damage. My fingers couldn't dial fast enough to try to find a technician to come out on a Friday night after hours. I must have called about a dozen places, but they were all too busy on emergency calls. And then, finally, a receptionist was kind enough to refer me to Mario. I caught him just in time, as he was on his last stop of the night, getting ready to go home. It was already getting late, and he'd been super busy that day. He could have gone home, and enjoyed the evening with his family, but he went above and beyond by adding one more call onto his list...which was me. When he arrived, I was over the top relieved that someone came to save me from what could have been another costly nightmare, just like the last time. And even more relieved at how unbelievably nice he was. Even on his last call, after a super busy day with exhausting hours, he didn't rush. He took the time to explain everything, and was so thorough and careful about inspecting my poor old furnace, and figuring out the problem, which turned out to be nothing more than a loose piece of sheetmetal making noise by scraping against another piece of metal. Whew! I'm STILL thanking my lucky stars that that was all it was! But even more importantly, I'm thanking my lucky stars that this wonderful human being, who smelled like a fruit bowl (from the air freshener in his truck, he said - after I mentioned that he smelled like potpourri - lol) was not only experienced and professional...but also HONEST! Rare, very rare, nowadays, let me tell ya! This treasure of a heating and air conditioning man has earned top place on my list of trusted professionals, and there he will stay for a lifetime. I'm going to tell everybody I know about Mario - and even people who I don't, like you guys reading this review. There are way too many repairmen who try to rip people off, or oversell them on unnecessary junk, and especially if you're a woman, and especially if it's an emergency situation where the repair cannot wait. So, when I find someone who has this caliber of integrity - they're a keeper! Thank you, Mario, you wonderful potpourri-smelling save-the-day repair person, you! I will never forget your fine service and admirable character. I wish you great success, and will recommend you with honor. read more

I started to panic a bit on a Friday afternoon when I noticed that my furnace was running continuously without shutting itself off. I contacted a few places and was told nobody could get to me until Wednesday, or maybe Monday of the following week. When I talked to Mario, he offered to come out on Sunday, despite the fact that he was closed on that day. Due to my schedule, we ended up settling on early Monday morning. In the meantime, Mario asked questions and tried to help me troubleshoot the problem before he came out. On Monday morning, he was punctual, friendly, and talked through everything he was doing to my furnace to help explain how it should be running. Thankfully, the issue was a relatively minor one and Mario was able to replace the broken part within a half hour. I was so grateful that he made the trip out to Chicago even though all his other appointments that day were in the Rockford area. Thank you so much, Mario!! If I ever have a problem with my furnace or HVAC unit in the future, I know I can call Mario for quick, reliable service. read more

Mario was so helpful and professional. I called him just before the Thanksgiving holiday to come out and service my HVAC system in my rental unit. He was out first thing Friday morning following the holiday. He coordinated the appointment directly with my tenant and kept me apprised of the HVAC issues via text and email (complete with pictures of my unit). He was very knowledgeable and provided me a suggested repair plan to address based on priority. I will definitely utilize Mario and his company in the future if/when the need arises. And this was a bonus but I was able to pay through Venmo! As a person who is by know means a professional landlord, just a homeowner with their condo rented out, I am always so appreciative when people make it easy to make payment! read more

I cannot say enough great things about Mario! He serviced two furnaces in our new home a few weeks ago, and when we had a very technical question about getting one of the furnaces back up and running again weeks later, he spent 30 minutes on the phone troubleshooting the issue with us. His service and responsiveness is truly above and beyond and professional in all aspects. Would highly recommend -- look no farther and I look forward to engaging Mario again in the future! 5+++ Stars! read more

I called this company and set up a furnace inspection/winter check-up. Mario called me right back and we set up the appt. for 2 days later. We set up a time window of an hour and he arrived on time and got right to work. I had an Ecobee (like NEST) installed about 2 years ago and right away Mario identified something was wired wrong thus causing the motor to run too often. He made the wiring change, inspected the furnace, cleaned it up and I was good to go. He most likely saved me a more costly repair by identifying the problem and correcting the wiring issue. I would use Mario again and recommend him for HVAC services. read more

Mario is awesome! We only had one experience so far but it exceeded our expectations. It was an emergency repair on a cold winter night when many wouldn't come out or wanted to charge crazy fees. After he learned we have two young kids, he came out quickly at a fair price. When Mario was here, he was methodical and spent time finding the actual cause of the problem. Explained everything he did step-by-step to my husband and gave helpful tips. We highly recommend him, 5 stars! read more

I chose Mario to fix my a/c unit based solely on Yelp reviews & I couldn't be more pleased. He responded immediately, communicated beautifully every step of the way, came out on a holiday weekend, and provided superior service at a more than fair price. read more

Mario at 312 climate control was awesome. Very responsive, courteous and doesn't try to upsell you. I used Mario last year for an furnace tune-up on my 30 year old unit. It was on its last legs. Fast forward 1 year and the furnace finally kicked the bucket. Called Mario on Saturday, he came over and took a look at it, quoted me more than a fair price on a new furnace and had a new furnace installed by Monday. If you are scouring YELP for your HVAC needs, you can stop right here and call Mario. read more

Called Mario this morning an AC maintenance check up. He was able to rearrange his schedule to come by already today. Customer service was outstanding. Mario showed up promptly and did a great job. He showed me what might be future issues, but he didn't try to sell me anything. I will use him again in the fall for the heating check up. Great job Mario!! read more

After calling two other small-businesses in HVAC (both of whom never returned my call) I found 312 Climate on Yelp. Mario answered my call and we set up an appointment time over text. He showed up on time and immediately diagnosed the fix for a broken heat pump in a condo unit. He pulled the broken motor out, called the parts store and got a replacement quote, and several days later he returned to install the new parts. We had a misunderstanding on the price he quoted me (it was my understanding that the total fee for the project included the $85 initial service call fee) but he quickly acknowledged the mutual misunderstanding and there was no dispute at all. Everything works great and he offered a 60 day warranty for labor. This may not sound like a terribly exciting review here, but if you've ever tried to get any type of repair company that's on the smaller size (supporting small business) then you know what a rare gem it is to find someone who is reliable, knowledgeable, and trustworthy. Mario is now on my "A-List". read more

Mario was awesome to work with. He was very transparent about the expected cost, his arrival time, and his process in diagnosing our furnace problems. Mario was responsive, on time, and a clear expert in his field. All of that and he was the most cost-effective quote I received. I had him come clean/tune up my 20 year old A/C units to make sure they can last a few more years and he did an excellent job. As a female 1st time homeowner, often I feel repairmen can speak down to me. Mario was the exact opposite. He helped me understand any issues that could potentially arise with my units/furnace in a way that made sense to a non-expert. I would highly recommend Mario and will be calling him with any A/C or furnace needs in the future. read more

We were in a bind and Mario came over with very little notice on a Saturday morning to fix our leaking unit. He is great and determining where the problem is and quickly and efficiently fixing it. He also installed a Nest for us and worked until it was correct to verify the humidifier that he also installed was working properly being controlled by the Nest. We will definitely be using Mario for any future HVAC needs. read more

I had a great experience with 312 Climate Control and will go back for any future needs. Mario was easy to communicate with, easy to set up an appointment with, and was totally on time for our appointment. Once here, he was very friendly and thorough. Thanks Mario for helping me out!! I initially called another bigger heating and air company, what a waste that was! The guy comes out and charges me $200 and basically leaves and tells me I'm on my own. Then I called Mario, he was booked for the next few days, but he came out later in the week and worked for HOURS, and fixed the problem!
