I haven't written a Yelp review in a while, but Mario came through for me in a major way and I wanted to give him a shout out. Our landlord/slumlord was being non-responsive about fixing our broken heat. Mario was able to squeeze us in that day and fixed it. He then sent a helpful email describing his recommendation and detailed invoice for me to send to my landlord. He would have done more to fix it, but was restrained by the fact that we weren't the owners. Mario struck the perfect balance of fixing our furnace so we had heat, but not doing the bigger changes that would have been inappropriate because we weren't the owners of the unit. He was great at communicating his timing and even followed up with me after to check if the heat was still working. Great service. read more

This is a frustrating review to write because I've used Mario for 3+ years for regular HVAC tune ups with no issue. He's always been responsive, helpful, and did a great job. However, I recently had a horrible experience with him and his team. Our HVAC unit wasn't working and we called Mario and his team to repair. They charged us $2,350 for a few pounds of refrigerant, sealant and 3-4 hours of labor. When the work was done, they claimed that they'd used gauges and detected that the leak was sealed. We sent a $545 payment on June 3 for the refrigerant and labor, a $350 payment on June 5 for the sealant and labor a $1,500 payment on June 12 for the repair of the leak. I asked for detailed receipts of the work four separate times and the detailed receipts were never sent over. On top of that, a few weeks later we had the same exact issue with our HVAC unit. When we called a different repair person, the refrigerant had dropped significantly AGAIN and we were told that the unit was still leaking. We reached out to Mario various times asking for receipts and explaining our frustration. As of today, we've gotten no response, no refund, and no promise to return and look into why the leak that they claimed that they'd fixed was not fixed. All in all we're out almost $2,400 with no true fix to the HVAC issue that we called Mario & his team for to begin with. I'm willing to remove this review or bump up my ratings if I get some sort of response. But at this point we've been waiting for a response and requesting receipts for over a month with no action. read more

This is my followup review. After the initial repair by Mario, my furnace faltered again. Since I didn't have a satisfactory first experience with him, I contracted a competitor and they told me the repai done by 312 climate control was not done appropriately and therefore the furnace was running forcefully causing the second incident. Basically Mario had put a bandaid solution on my furnace, overcharged me and caused my unit to deteriorate more. Shameful business practices read more

Thank you Mario for being so efficient and informative. We recently bought our home and I know it's time to start preparing for the Chicago cold/winter. I knew my radiators needed to be bled/purged. Mario offered this service along with a radiator tune up at a very reasonable rate. I was so happy with the service from 312. My air conditioning had stopped working over the summer, and I was able to easily make an appointment that fit around my schedule. I highly recommend Mario! My A/C went out the evening of 7/3 and we were in touch first thing in the morning of 7/4 despite the fact that it was a holiday and he had a very bad cold. He prioritized coming out to see me first thing on 7/5 to work around my schedule (I was leaving early the next day to go out of town) and was prompt and informative. His rates are reasonable and he explains everything he does in a way that makes sense to someone with little to no knowledge of these things (like me!). One particular service call that stands out in my mind is when my heat went out on a cold December evening. I called Mario, who was working late on a previous call, and he assured me that he would stop by that night. He spent hours at my house unclogging difficult to access hoses to ensure that he got our heat working before he left, and despite the late night and several hours of labor, he only charged us for the service call because he didn't need any additional parts. Thank God for Mario Yapez! Today was a super cold day, in the low 20s...and as luck would have it (my luck, anyway) when I went over to the vacant house I'm selling, just to check on things, I had the scare of my life! After I was already inside the house, the furnace kicked on, and it made such a noise as to make me run, bad words spilling out of my mouth left and right, heart racing, nearly in need of a diaper, all the way out the door! I thought it was going to blow! It sounded like an airplane taking off, it was so loud and terrifying! I stood outside, listening, and when it finished its cycle, I ran back inside as fast as I could to shut it down. BUT...if I didn't get it back up and running soon, I would be facing frozen pipes throughout the house, plus possible damage to the dishwasher, washing machine, and refrigerator...and even cracked drywall and a busted toilet bowl. Think that's an exaggeration? Think again, it already happened to me once before, in another vacant house, when I was out of town and no one was there to turn on the furnace when it dipped below freezing. My plaster cracked like the shell of a dropped hard boiled egg, two toilet bowls cracked in half, pipes busted everywhere. Anyway, back to Mario... I was in a big panic, because this weather in an unheated home can cost thousands of dollars in damage. My fingers couldn't dial fast enough to try to find a technician to come out on a Friday night after hours. I must have called about a dozen places, but they were all too busy on emergency calls. And then, finally, a receptionist was kind enough to refer me to Mario. I caught him just in time, as he was on his last stop of the night, getting ready to go home. It was already getting late, and he'd been super busy that day. He could have gone home, and enjoyed the evening with his family, but he went above and beyond by adding one more call onto his list...which was me. When he arrived, I was over the top relieved that someone came to save me from what could have been another costly nightmare, just like the last time. And even more relieved at how unbelievably nice he was. Even on his last call, after a super busy day with exhausting hours, he didn't rush. He took the time to explain everything, and was so thorough and careful about inspecting my poor old furnace, and figuring out the problem, which turned out to be nothing more than a loose piece of sheetmetal making noise by scraping against another piece of metal. Whew! I'm STILL thanking my lucky stars that that was all it was! But even more importantly, I'm thanking my lucky stars that this wonderful human being, who smelled like a fruit bowl (from the air freshener in his truck, he said - after I mentioned that he smelled like potpourri - lol) was not only experienced and professional...but also HONEST! Rare, very rare, nowadays, let me tell ya! This treasure of a heating and air conditioning man has earned top place on my list of trusted professionals, and there he will stay for a lifetime. I'm going to tell everybody I know about Mario - and even people who I don't, like you guys reading this review. There are way too many repairmen who try to rip people off, or oversell them on unnecessary junk, and especially if you're a woman, and especially if it's an emergency situation where the repair cannot wait. I started to panic a bit on a Friday afternoon when I noticed that my furnace was running continuously without shutting itself off. I contacted a few places and was told nobody could get to me until Wednesday, or maybe Monday of the following week. When I talked to Mario, he offered to come out on Sunday, despite the fact that he was closed on that day. Due to my schedule, we ended up settling on early Monday morning. In the meantime, Mario asked questions and tried to help me troubleshoot the problem before he came out. On Monday morning, he was punctual, friendly, and talked through everything he was doing to my furnace to help explain how it should be running. Thankfully, the issue was a relatively minor one and Mario was able to replace the broken part within a half hour. He was out first thing Friday morning following the holiday. I called this company and set up a furnace inspection/winter check-up. Mario called me right back and we set up the appt. for 2 days later. We set up a time window of an hour and he arrived on time and got right to work. I had an Ecobee (like NEST) installed about 2 years ago and right away Mario identified something was wired wrong thus causing the motor to run too often. He made the wiring change, inspected the furnace, cleaned it up and I was good to go. He most likely saved me a more costly repair by identifying the problem and correcting the wiring issue. After calling two other small-businesses in HVAC (both of whom never returned my call) I found 312 Climate on Yelp. Mario answered my call and we set up an appointment time over text. He showed up on time and immediately diagnosed the fix for a broken heat pump in a condo unit. He pulled the broken motor out, called the parts store and got a replacement quote, and several days later he returned to install the new parts. We had a misunderstanding on the price he quoted me (it was my understanding that the total fee for the project included the $85 initial service call fee) but he quickly acknowledged the mutual misunderstanding and there was no dispute at all. Everything works great and he offered a 60 day warranty for labor. This may not sound like a terribly exciting review here, but if you've ever tried to get any type of repair company that's on the smaller size (supporting small business) then you know what a rare gem it is to find someone who is reliable, knowledgeable, and trustworthy. Thanks Mario for helping me out!! I initially called another bigger heating and air company, what a waste that was! The guy comes out and charges me $200 and basically leaves and tells me I'm on my own. Then I called Mario, he was booked for the next few days, but he came out later in the week and worked for HOURS, and fixed the problem! What we found out was during construction on my building someone cut the thermostat wires. Mario worked tirelessly to get it done. He'll be the guy I use for a long time!!! read more
