2/5 -- Not Recommended…read more We recently tried the Sunday lunch buffet at Cocina Azteca, which was $27.99 per person, and unfortunately, it was a major disappointment. There was plenty of rice and beans, but much of the other food appeared to have been sitting out for hours when we arrived. During the entire time we were there, the buffet was never refreshed. In fact, once more customers came in, the girl working the counter specifically asked the cooking staff in the back to make more food, but they never brought anything out. We were also given only an hour to finish our meal. The service was abysmal, and to make matters worse, the front door was left open the entire time. With the current heat wave, the restaurant became extremely hot and uncomfortable. What makes this even more frustrating is that we've tried the brunch here two other times over the past seven years and experienced essentially the same issues. The regular food is decent, but the Sunday brunch buffet is simply not worth $27.99. Save your money and skip the brunch. It's a complete rip-off. There are much better options nearby!!!

Had the choriqueso which was pretty rich and salty and great with the jalapenos and a squeeze of lime to cut through. Also got the molcajete that was amazing. Cactus, carne asada, chicken, chorizo, shrimp, queso fresco, and onions all sit in the molcajete filled with a tomato sauce. So much flavor and can easily feed 3 people. Had all of this with their house-made corn tortillas that were an absolute masterpiece. Also had their caldo de albondigas which was far more subtle than the molcajete but very good and their margarita which was very balanced and refreshing. To top it off, Susana and Diana and the crew delivered the best service. Welcoming, attentive, and energetic. Highly recommend a visit to this home-style Mexican restaurant!

My foodie friend loves tamales and she'd heard great things about the tamales at La Puerta, so off…read morewe went to check it out. The restaurant is located in a very unassuming shopping center and from the outside there's not anything that really makes it stand out. BUT, as soon as you walk through the front door, you're warmly greeted by the friendly and welcoming staff. And the decor, well it's a little over the top ~ it's an explosion of artificial greenery and flowers that gives the dining room almost a rainforest kind of vibe. It's also very spacious inside and could easily accommodate a large, "private" event/celebration in the side area. La Puerta opens at 9AM so they do have quite an extensive breakfast menu with both Mexican and American dishes. At another visit I'm looking forward to trying one of their Benedicts! But we tried to stay on task, so my friend got the tamale & chile relleno plate and I chose their à la carte flautas (one with carnitas and shredded beef for the other) and a crispy potato taco. My friend really enjoyed her beef tamale and would consider ordering by the half dozen to take home & freeze. Although the chile relleno was filled with plenty of creamy cheese, the sauce could have used more seasoning as it tasted mostly like a basic tomato sauce. I'm usually a chile relleno girl, too, but decided to try their flautas and a crispy taco. Both were SO good! The meat in the flautas was tender and flavorful and the potato taco was piled with fresh shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, sprinkled with cheese and drizzled with crema ~ YUM!! Our server, Lupita, was one of the best and sweetest servers we've had anywhere in a while. I'd go so far as to say that she made our visit memorable. I hope she'll be there at our next visit :)

10/10 -- Some of the Best Street Tacos I've Ever Had…read more I genuinely cannot say enough good things about this place. The street tacos are an absolute 10/10, and the corn tortillas are, without exaggeration, the best I've ever had. They're thin, fresh, soft, and have so much flavor. You can tell immediately that quality matters here. The meat is always tender, flavorful, and cooked perfectly, and the red salsa has a great kick while still being incredibly tasty. I usually order four street tacos, finish them, and then end up going back for seconds because they're just that good. But what really makes me want to support this place is the owner, Jorge. He is genuinely one of the friendliest restaurant owners I've met. Every time I come here, I feel welcomed, and you can tell how much he cares about the food he serves and the people he serves it to. The patio is another reason I love coming here. It's relaxed, completely shaded underneath the canopy, and with the cool Orange County weather, it's just a great place to sit outside, slow down, and enjoy some seriously good tacos. I try to come here as often as I can, and I could honestly eat here every day. There are plenty of restaurants I enjoy, but I don't think I've ever wanted to see a business succeed as much as I do this one. When someone puts this much care into the quality of their food and how they treat their customers, they deserve all the support they can get. If you're thinking about trying this place, please do. Order the street tacos, get the red salsa, sit out on the patio, and enjoy. You won't regret it. Thank you, Jorge. I sincerely wish you and your business nothing but success. You've earned a customer for life.

Five stars, long overdue…read more Super Mex has been my go-to for years, and I can't believe I'm just now giving it the love it deserves. This is the spot when you want to keep it simple--grab a seat at the bar, order a taco and a beer, catch a game, and just unwind. No company needed, but you'll still get that easy, friendly interaction with the bartenders that makes you feel right at home. The tostada chips and salsa? Always on point--fresh, flavorful, and honestly hard to stop eating. My standing order never changes: a Michelada and a shredded beef taco a la carte. Something about that combo just hits every single time. The shredded beef is consistently tender, well-seasoned, and exactly what I'm craving when I walk in. The bar has a great, relaxed vibe, but I've also come here plenty of times for sit-down dinners with friends. It's a spacious spot with a solid menu of Mexican-American classics, so there's something for everyone. Still, no matter how many times I tell myself I'll try something new, I always circle right back to that shredded beef taco. Reliable, welcoming, and always satisfying--Super Mex is one of those places you keep coming back to without even thinking twice.

Decent amount of indoor self seating, the grill is exposed so you can see the magic as it is happening. Quite a friendly staff! Very welcoming, they know the various menu boards and pricing might be a little off so they make sure to inform of any changes.. We dug in on their half chicken plate, a torta, and a quesadilla.. Overall quite pleased with the chicken. Flavorful, not dry, and it made for a filling meal with the rice, beans, and tortillas on the side. Solid positive feedback on the torta, a shame I didn't try it. The horchata seemed watered down.. When dining in, you order at the counter and then snag it from the front when ready - similar to fast food spots... The shopping plaza is pretty busy damn nearly all day long so parking can get messy depending on the crowd. Solid choice for a family/group lunch or dinner, but also a healthier alternative for a quick solo meal.. Prices compare with the average, inflation got to them all around.
