Wow!!! I've lived here this long and never tried this place. Boy have I missed out, but no more! Not just a winery but a full service restaurant. And, very nice and surprising menu for such a remote location. Ok, the drive is not simple but the reward is worth it. Beautiful scenery and winery, especially at dusk. Indoor and outdoor seating. Dining room is open and spacious. The food was excellent! The spinach artichoke dip was scrumptious. Big portion with everyone in our party of 7 getting a serving. Everyone raved about their food. My risotto with chicken was cooked perfectly and was delicious. The waitress was excellent and really went out of her way to make our dinner a wonderful experience. And I almost forgot the wine!! Definitely worth the drive. Talk about off the beaten path, but so worth it. Started with a red wine flight, each glass was phenomenal. Was shocked at how well developed the reds were, so good. Had a BLT with avocado for lunch, it was so good, the presentation was great as well. We didn't have a reservation and they accommodated us which was nice, the only negative was the manager who is 1/2 my age saying you should always make reservations at any restaurant scolding my party, totally unnecessary and condescending. Went there yesterday (Wednesday) and they were out of much of the stuff on the menu. The menu hasn't changed much since I first went there years ago. Time to update it. If you're out of stuff on the menu you shouldn't offer it -- get rid of the menu. It isn't fair to people who drive over a dusty unpaved road. Good wine, lousy restaurant. read more

Beautiful place, but the worst service, not crowded, the waitress was like pulling teeth, we had to ask for condiments twice & refill of tea which took a 2nd waitress to bring the wrong drink to get the tea after about 20 minutes. Our food order consisted of hot sandwiches & came out in timely manner but the 2 Cobb salads came way later & we thought the order was lost. Truly disappointing. We were a party of 4 adults & teenager. Sometimes things happen in the kitchen but this waitress was unfriendly & unapologetic and never updated on anything. This was a young staff. read more

We came here for the first time! Last Saturday! My best friend loves wineries and she was here for another visit she sat next to someone on the plane ride coming into Boise for the weekend and the lady mentioned this winery to check out! We had the pleasure of having Maddie she was our server she was super sweet made it an awesome for the first time experience. The place is super quaint and beautiful inside :) the food was absolutely delicious!!! They have bread loafs as well and are just amazing too! Overall experience here we were super happy customers. We made our first visit to this somewhat out of the way facility yesterday with two other couples. None of us are wine drinkers. We went for the food and the "adventure" of getting there. We were not disappointed. The food was excellent, the service was very good and everyone we encountered was friendly and helpful. Getting there was half the fun. We recommend taking the route following Eagle Road north. While there is a fair amount of dirt road involved, it was more fun than taking 16 and going north. The ambiance was nice. We ate inside as it was a little chilly outside (although there were a number of patrons who did eat outside). read more

What a wonderful place to enjoy some delicious food and good wine. We enjoyed the red wine flight (15.00) plus the steak frites and pork ragu gnocchi. Along with a toasty baguette served with butter and olive oil and balsamic. All were delicious. The steak was cooked perfectly and was flavorful. The gnocchi was sheer heaven...meaty and satisfying. You will find the owner behind the bar serving as well as mingling with the guests. The service was ok, not bad, but not great. They were quite busy and our server was spread pretty thin. The ambiance is warm and inviting. We love the view and the atmosphere of the room. We will definitely return and highly recommend 3 Horse Ranch Vineyards. read more

Don't let the wine tasting sign on the building fool you, they don't actually do wine tasting here :( As the resident wine lover in the family I was very disappointed to hear those words muttered. Though they do grow their own grapes and produce wine, 3 Horse Ranch is more of a restaurant than it is a winery. They sell wine by the bottle and glass, and additionally offered both a white and red flight while I was there, but there's no wine education or tasting notes to go with the wines. Our server was nice enough to share some history of the winery and winemaker with us, but ultimately this spot is about the food and dining experience. Since we had wine tasting on the mind we each ordered a flight and to snack on we got the charcuterie board and spinach and artichoke dip. Favorite wine I tried was the 2018 Syrah, it was rich and full bodied with some nice dark fruit notes. The charcuterie board was pretty good and had a variety of little snacks, unfortunately it only came with one cheese. With three meats it would've been nice to have another cheese. The spinach and artichoke dip was really good as well, the roasted lemon was a nice touch to lighten it up, still rich and creamy, but slightly lighter than they can be. We visited on a Saturday afternoon in June and the place was packed, which was quite the surprise after the 6 mile un-paved dirt road it took to get there. Without a reservation we were still able to be sat inside, though space was limited - so make a reservation if you can! Summary: out of the way gem, surprisingly good wine, solid food, incredibly nice people Details: 3 Horse Ranch (3HRV) is the excellent rebuttal to the snobby Californians who think there can't be good wine in Idaho. 3HRV might not have won every award but it's damn good wine. My favorites: 2019 Rose: Mostly Sangiovese (as it should be) with some Syrah. Light with just a hint of acidity and berries -- perfect for a warm day. 2019 Cab: the surprise of the day. Oakville clone vines with the expected lushness and long finish. The low tannins makes this a crowd pleaser. 2019 Malbec: I'm a sucker for a good Malbec and this reminds me of a Hobbes from Mendoza. I can still taste the fruit. Most (all?) of the wines are estate grown and very few are blended. On to the food: Chicken Caesar salad: large size. Chicken breast nicely cooked. Garlic lemon dressing was pleasant but a little heavy on garlic. Pesto chicken sandwich: a special. Guessing it was walnut pesto and not too garlicky. Risotto as a side. Very nicely done. Jules, our food waiter, was helpful and personable -- a good server like her adds so much to the meal. Gary, the owner, served the wine and told us the backstories. He's so down to earth that you might not realize he's the owner. The road to 3HRV isn't paved in parts and isn't lit -- be careful if you have too much wine or come back after dark. The reason for three stars instead of four was that one of the performers from the duo came to our table and asked for tips. Wow! Really? The elevated Mac and Cheese is a must must must! Getting to the vineyard was a mission but worth it once we arrived. Parking is ample and lots of sitting area outside and a bit small on the inside. Service was great, wines tasted delicious and the atmosphere was perfect for a Friday lunch gathering with the family. I was a bit bummed to see the lack of greenery surrounding us to give us more epic views but would definitely return. Come give this place a try. Worth it. read more

came up here in the week to get some wine and a little lunch. I will say, this winery is off the beaten path- literally. you drive down this road for what seems like forever and then it turns into dirt and you're just in the middle of nowhere for a while and suddenly you pull up to this little oasis. I am not a fan of dirt roads, my car was thrashed. I kept thinking there's no way we are going the right way. the winery and the grounds are lovely and there are lots of spots to sit. we stumbled upon some kind of lunch for the wine club members so it was so crowded, but they accommodated us inside at a table immediately. the servers were super friendly and we had a glass of wine and a cheese plate and these fried onions that were absolutely amazing. they actually have a full restaurant up there! it's so funny, you would not expect all of this to be out there. the wine itself was good. I got a glass of rosè and it was flavorful and crisp. my 2nd glass was a cabernet. it was also good. overall I did like this place but i'm just not a fan of the location. it just doesn't do it for me. maybe we will be back one of these days! especially for those onions- drool. read more

My friend reserved a large group months ago (~20 people). Might as well showed up unexpected bc that is how poorly prepared they were for us. Requested the patio but ended up inside (due to poor planning) and they gave us one elderly man as a waiter. Poor guy couldn't keep up. The kitchen was seriously broken and out of EVERYTHING (our reservation was @430). Our appetizers came out over and hour at random. Meals were Terrible. Steak was a pile of fat.. etc. sadly a really really really bad experience. I highly doubt I would ever go there again. Went on a very windy day with a rather large group, they could only seat us under a tarp area which got a lot of wind. The server didn't seem like she was having a good day. So we ended up just going in and ordering a couple of bottles to go , which were delicious. Gentlemen behind the bar was very nice and offered a seat inside, but we were on our way out at that point. Good time Charlie was there and I'm real sorry I missed most of his performance ( love his music). Will try again maybe later. read more

We were a party of seven celebrating a birthday and visiting different wineries. We thought we'd end here and have a fabulous dinner. It was quite the opposite. The service was horrible and the food was subpar. It took over an hour for our food to arrive and when it did it was cold. We had to send a steak back to be cooked a little more. Only it never returned back. We had to complain to a manager who went to check on it and brought it out. Needless to say everyone else was done with dinner already. They never checked on us to see if we needed more wine, water or anything. We had to get extra place settings off another table because they never brought us any. We really wanted to love this place and buy some wine and goodies like we did at the previous wineries. Sadly we left. $300 later and no tip. We did get an apology from the manager after complaining but only excuses from the waitress about how "we weren't the only ones ". read more

We have now gone to Three Horse vineyards two times for dinner, both with reservations on a Saturday. The first time was exceptional. I ordered the pork shank and we also had the salmon, both excellent. Good service as well. The second time was the opposite. Food took forever to plate and they ran out of 50% of the dinner and dessert menu by 6PM. We didn't even get bread with our appetizers which had a salmon sampler that needed bread or crackers. Again they said they ran out of bread by 6pm. They then charged us for a modicum of crackers. Who chargers for crackers?! The food was well not memorable and certainly not commanding of the price. So it's inconsistent food and service. read more

I have been to many many wineries. Several here in Idaho. But once I found 3 horse, I was instantly a big fan. The new tasting room is very fresh and inviting with wonderful place settings and high tables or the tasting bar, the outdoor seating is great too, on the warmer months, and the menu for lunch is really good. No I mean *really* good. The food they serve up there is beating out most of the better restaurants in the area for sure. The chef there is putting out some great dishes, and wonderful desserts. And then there are the wines. Estate grown with different varietals with some being blends. I love the red wines, and I'm fortunate that they have many to choose from. Hats off to the wine maker Corey. You will see him about along with the owners. They are invested in making your visit a good one. From the Sarah and Merlot /Cabernet Franc of Eagle Foothills region, to their L'Occasione blend. All just wonderful. We brought some friends in from the San Francisco area, they visit Napa (not Nampa) frequently, and they loved the wines as well. They bought 6 bottles! Do yourself a favor and come up and enjoy life. It's just too short. Last word: Highly recommended! read more

Went for Valentines day with another couple... OUTSTANDING! Gary and Martha, the owners, were in the restaurant area mingling and making sure all customers were happy and attended to. Our waitress was there when we needed her, and gone when we did not (did not hover or disappear). The food was delicious, the presentation was beautiful, and wine was perfect. AND the price was VERY reasonable. If you are looking for a wonderful place for dinner and drinks, you owe it to yourself to try Three Horse Ranch Vineyards. It is a little out of the was, but worth the drive. I cant wait to visit during one of their concert series events in the summer and fall. Came here with a reservation with a group of ladies. Our table inside was beautiful. I tried the four red testings and enjoyed 3 out of the 4. The food everyone ordered looked really tasty and was beautifully presented on the plate. Unfortunately I felt the woman attending our table seemed annoyed of us and literally shared no information about the wines. One woman asked for a splash of a white wine to try and she asked if she could just try someone else's in our group (these two women didn't even know each other). It was sorta weird and felt cheap. Overall the grounds are beautiful here and the drive out makes you feel far away in a good way. I would come back. I really liked their rosè as well but didn't get a chance to try any other whites. read more

Last week I went to 3 horse Ranch Vinyards mainly because I have heard lovely things about their food and wine. They had a seasonal/specials menu as well as a standard menu. I tried 1 item from each. I started with a glass of the vivacious white to compliment the butternut squash soup. The white wine was mellow and reminds me of an easy table wine that anyone could enjoy. The soup was velvety and had the perfect amount of flavor pairing and I like the addition to a few pieces of bacon. It didn't over power it but gave it another texture, which I appreciated. For my main course I chose the mussels because well I love them and they are hard to pass up when I see them on a menu. I asked to substitute a baguette instead of their normal accompaniment of fries because I like to soak up that beautiful broth. The mussels were cooked perfect and the broth was heavenly. I paired this dish with a glass of their Sauvignon Blanc. I wanted something a little more crisp and I enjoyed the pairing. If you feel like a drive out on a back road passing by horse ranch's and have a little extra time I highly recommend trying this place out. We are members of the wine club and we come every few months. Don't drive to Sweet for expensive mediocre food. Just drive to the Eagle Foothills and have an outstanding experience. read more

No matter what others have said. This winery and tasting room is not kid friendly. So the 20-30 minutes you invest in getting to a cool destination might be a total waste if you have kids who need some entertainment while the parents get their fix.
