Hooray! New tasting room at the new production facility is open as of 5/11/17. Move from tasting room and production space shared with Telaya Winery in Telaya's river frontage building, a couple of miles away, was due to great success of both wineries leading to the need for more space for both in wine production. The former tasting room on the river was splendid for sure, but this FUN-tabulos new space re-imagined from its' former use as an antique furnishings store and right on Chinden for easy access (look for the big Coiled sign) is a perfect fit for the Coiled family of winemaker Leslie Preston, the staff and we fans who love to drink their wines. On a Mother's Day visit, our first to this new facility, the tasting room was hopping with local people coming in to enjoy great wine and warm hospitality and see the new addition to the neighborhood with a "all people are welcome" community vibe. INDUSTRIAL MEETS CLASSY & WARM WELCOME: The new tasting room is industrial-funky-classy vibe with great cement floors, big windows for brightness and unique seating with standard height tables and chairs as well as high tables. This reincarnation of the space was pulled off in just about six weeks by the Coiled team and that on its' own is just astounding. There is a huge "just right" chandelier (we hear it came from the old Owyhee Hotel) at the ceiling and we loved the big back and white artistic photo print behind the bar showing the disgorgement of a bottle of Rizza! Jazz playing during our first visit and was perfect pairing. Wonderful staff make all people feel welcome and we always feel like family going in for a glass of wine and we always leave with more bottles of our favorites. Who wouldn't love everything here? GREAT WINES: We're wine club members of Coiled, something I highly recommend to a remarkable wine maker and local business too. So we had already had a chance to try the newest Dry Riesling which we think is the best yet of many great vintages. The 2016 Rizza sparkler using Riesling grapes, just released and our choice to sip on a our inaugural visit to the new tasting room, is crisply delicious. I am a particular fan of Coiled's Sidewinder, a Syrah, and winemaker Leslie Preston and her team have produced another excellent vintage with this newest release. My husband threatens to put a lock on the wine "cave" so that no one will pilfer his Coiled Black Mamba, a Petit Verdot that typical sells out quickly and which he loves. (In fact this year, I think Black Mamba may only be available to club members and, if so, that alone is a reason to join! :-) ) THIS N THAT: 1) PARKNG: A few parking spaces in paved lot and more on side street. 2) ACCESSIBILITY: A van accessible parking spot at the door, level in the door and all on one level access. Coiled is a great stop to have on your wine tour list while in Boise - you can either stop by their  tasting room in downtown proper, or head to Garden City to check out the production facilities along with that tasting room, as well. I had a chance to speak with Leslie and it is very clear she is fiercely passionate about her craft and loves sharing it with others. Her specialty lies in Riesling - and especially of the sparkling variety. wish i could give more than 5 stars for the friendly and knowledgeable staff, the delicious local wine that's made on the premises, and the building itself which has a great patio that makes for a very relaxing experience! we got our glasses of wine and sat out on the patio overlooking the beautiful river. it was so great. i don't have a single complaint about any of it. this place is cool because it has 2 wineries in one building so you can taste from both if you want! i love that option. we left very happy and can't wait to come back to visit! read more

If you haven't been to the new winery, next to the Riverside Hotel, you are missing a nice venue. Besides wine tasting for both Coiled and Telaya wineries, the comfortable seating and views of the Green Belt make it a place to linger and have conversation with friends. This last weekend was their 2016 Fall Release Celebration. They had the B-Bistro Food Truck their serving up some great dishes, like Braised Short Ribs or Steamed Clams, that go great with a glass of wine. Nice fire pit out on the deck for coolish days. Each weekend they have a food truck parked there, so enjoy. read more

I love the new venue...its a great place to hang with friends out on the patio by the fire pit and have a glass of yummy wine!! I'm going to avoid using the term "gifted" to winemaker Leslie Preston, not because it doesn't apply, but because it understates the hard work she pours into it. This is full-bore, hands-on winemaking. Anyone who thinks this is easy need only spend a while with Leslie and her crew during the "busy season" (which from my observation appears to be about 11 months of the year). It's not a job, it's a mission. No matter how savvy and experienced a wine drinker you are, you'll probably learn some new things here, but you may first have to abandon some of your assumptions. One is that riesling is sweet, or at best off-dry. Not here. Dry means dry. Another is that "serious" wine only comes in bottles with corks. Nope. These use screwcaps. All except the sparkling wine Rizza, for which you will need - yes - a beer-bottle opener! Oh, and that Rizza is of course made with riesling, not chardonnay or pinot. And I hear some wines may not even come in bottles at all. Anyway, what matters is what's in the glass, not how it got there. Leslie's riesling has won many legitimate awards, including Idaho Wine of the Year. She makes a syrah that nods more to France than Australia and which rewards a few years aging, if you can wait that long. The Black Mamba can be a big purple monster when young, but the underlying fruit is plush and when the tannins soften a bit, this should be a glorious wine. (I hope so, because we're stocking up!) The downside is that Coiled doesn't make a lot of wine and they tend to sell out, especially the reds. Get on the mailing list so you don't miss out. Spring and fall are good times to visit, after the new wines are released and before they're gone. Other reviewers have remarked on the collegial atmosphere of the 44th Street Wineries and tasting room, which houses Telaya and Cinder as well as Coiled. As long as you're not expecting beautiful, romantic views of hillside vineyards, it's a great way to spend an hour or so sampling some of the Pacific NW's finest wines. The pourers are unfailingly cheerful, knowledgeable, and seem to be having as much fun as you are. You should consider joining at least one or two of the wine clubs. You'll get discounts, free tastings, and access to special events and club-only releases. There's no cost to join, and Telaya & Coiled especially have very modest annual purchase commitments that allow you to choose your own wines. read more

This is some of the best wine I've tasted in Idaho. It's located in the 44th Street Wineries building (shared with Telaya and Cinder), which is a great place to hit three tastings (with another two sharing a building barely down the road). Telaya and Cinder are great. The pourers at all three wineries and friendly, helpful and, sometimes, even playful with one another. That said, I believe Coiled to be the absolute best winery in Garden City (maybe all of Idaho). It really speaks to me for at least a couple of reasons. For one, they have the best Syrah I've tried in the state. While most wineries go for the American / Australian version of Syrah (a little more abrasive, tart, sometimes peppery), they go for the lush, smooth and unbelievably palatable French style Syrah. Their Reisling will also make you a believe in dry and drinkable Reislings, nothing overly sweet or German-style here. Personally, I enjoyed the pourer here more than at the other two tables. They also paired an appetizer or small food item with each pour, so that sweetened the deal even more. If you're in the area, you should try all five wineries, but pay extra close attention to Coiled. I believe these guys are going to be frontrunners in the local wine scene, in the future. read more

Unlike our experience with Telaya in the same building, the woman from Coiled Wines was very friendly and informative, and she recommended a sparkling white that everyone loved. I didn't care for the harsh bright lighting and cold atmosphere in the upstairs room, but I would definitely go back for a tasting downstairs, or with dinner and dogs on the patio. read more

We had a wonderful experience here. We arrived about 30 minutes before closing and Cayenna never made us feel rushed. She walked us through their menu and helped us customize our tasting flight to our preferences, and their wines were excellent. We're from California, so we're fairly particular about wine, but we ended up buying g several bottles. Their Cab blends and Riesling are particularly excellent. It's also a lovely tasting room with a nice outdoor patio. Highly recommend! read more
