New tasting room and productions space opened 5/11/17
    Michele R.

Hooray! New tasting room at the new production facility is open as of 5/11/17. Move from tasting room and production space shared with Telaya Winery in Telaya's river frontage building, a couple of miles away, was due to great success of both wineries leading to the need for more space for both in wine production. The former tasting room on the river was splendid for sure, but this FUN-tabulos new space re-imagined from its' former use as an antique furnishings store and right on Chinden for easy access (look for the big Coiled sign) is a perfect fit for the Coiled family of winemaker Leslie Preston, the staff and we fans who love to drink their wines. On a Mother's Day visit, our first to this new facility, the tasting room was hopping with local people coming in to enjoy great wine and warm hospitality and see the new addition to the neighborhood with a "all people are welcome" community vibe. INDUSTRIAL MEETS CLASSY & WARM WELCOME: The new tasting room is industrial-funky-classy vibe with great cement floors, big windows for brightness and unique seating with standard height tables and chairs as well as high tables. This reincarnation of the space was pulled off in just about six weeks by the Coiled team and that on its' own is just astounding. There is a huge "just right" chandelier (we hear it came from the old Owyhee Hotel) at the ceiling and we loved the big back and white artistic photo print behind the bar showing the disgorgement of a bottle of Rizza! Jazz playing during our first visit and was perfect pairing. Wonderful staff make all people feel welcome and we always feel like family going in for a glass of wine and we always leave with more bottles of our favorites. Who wouldn't love everything here? GREAT WINES: We're wine club members of Coiled, something I highly recommend to a remarkable wine maker and local business too. So we had already had a chance to try the newest Dry Riesling which we think is the best yet of many great vintages. The 2016 Rizza sparkler using Riesling grapes, just released and our choice to sip on a our inaugural visit to the new tasting room, is crisply delicious. I am a particular fan of Coiled's Sidewinder, a Syrah, and winemaker Leslie Preston and her team have produced another excellent vintage with this newest release. My husband threatens to put a lock on the wine "cave" so that no one will pilfer his Coiled Black Mamba, a Petit Verdot that typical sells out quickly and which he loves. (In fact this year, I think Black Mamba may only be available to club members and, if so, that alone is a reason to join! :-) ) THIS N THAT: 1) PARKNG: A few parking spaces in paved lot and more on side street. 2) ACCESSIBILITY: A van accessible parking spot at the door, level in the door and all on one level access. Uni-loo is accessible too. 3) LOOK FOR STILL ANOTHER TASTING ROOM DOWNTOWN SOON!: On or about May 24, Coiled will have open another tasting room in downtown Boise, just across the street from Ten Barrel on Bannock.

wish i could give more than 5 stars for the friendly and knowledgeable staff, the delicious local wine that's made on the premises, and the building itself which has a great patio that makes for a very relaxing experience! we got our glasses of wine and sat out on the patio overlooking the beautiful river. it was so great. i don't have a single complaint about any of it. this place is cool because it has 2 wineries in one building so you can taste from both if you want! i love that option. we left very happy and can't wait to come back to visit!

    Fall Release Party...so much fun!

I love the new venue...its a great place to hang with friends out on the patio by the fire pit and have a glass of yummy wine!! Coiled is by far one of the best wineries in Idaho, and the staff is amazing! Kelly and her team do a great job, go check them out! The Black Mamba might be my favorite wine of all time...just sayin:-)

And you are going to be ho-ho-happy with the holidays coming up to discover this delightful to drink and unusual to find Arneis to enjoy yourself and gift to others. If you have wine drinkers on your "they've been nice" holiday list, this is a great discovery. They only made 57 cases. We bought enough bottles to total one and a friend who we told about it early bought enough to count as another. Act fast while there is still some available! (And yes, yes I did make sure my friend and I both made our purchases first. I am not as nice a Yelp-Elf as you think.) ARNEIS IS HARD TO FIND: Travis (winemaker owner - husband) and Mallory (business manage owner - wife) announced this Arneis on Facebook a couple of weeks ago and my husband and I made a 'pas de deux' to the tasting room (yes, it is a bad pun connection to Par Terre being a ballet term and that the talented young couple who own and named the winery are themselves for dancers with SF ballet company) to pick up a couple of bottles to try. And the very next day we were back to pick up multiples more for both ourselves and as gifts. This wine is among our most fun vino discoveries of 2020 and we want to share the fun with others. Arneis is a fav varietal of ours, old winos...umm...well aged wineaux that we are. A northwest region Italian varietal, the name translates either "little rascal" or "demanding one", depending on to whom you speak, given the grape is difficult to grow and to make into wine. For that reason there is little of it produced in the US and most of what we have enjoyed over our (many, many) years of wine drinking, most of it as still wine but a few bottles as sparklers, has been imported from Italy. So imagine our surprise to learn from Travis that there is one grower of Arneis in all of Idaho (Arena vineyard, I think) and that Par Terre is one of only two wineries that had access to the grapes this year and for the next harvest season too. THIS YEAR'S PAR TERRE ARNEIS: Travis did the unusual thing of fermenting the Arneis with skin contact to result in both lovely color and a delightful bit of viscosity in the mouthfeel of the wine to add to the great taste. We got Asian pear and apple peel and maybe just a hint of toasty almond to drink it. It is tank fermented and the bubbles in the bottle (crown capped not corked) when poured into glass are fine and persistent making this this lovely to drink by itself and a nice partner with eats of all kinds from expected to un...as in we tried it with Certified Kitchen & Bakery's cornbread that included whole corn kernels and with pasta carbonara that included local eggs and local producer guanciale (which was our Thanksgiving meal...no kidding...in this unusual year) and fresh herb roasted local range chicken and honey chevre pumpkin cheesecake with pepita brittle as made by a talented local chef not to mention one of the best pairings for sparkling wines of all kinds, great quality lightly salted potato chips. LOOKING FORWARD: Travis says he plans to use next year's Arneis grapes to make a classic style still Arneis wine. My hubby and I will have visions of those bottles dance in our heads as we sip the glasses of fine bubbles in the sparkling Skin Contact Arneis in this year's release. TASTING ROOM HOURS PS: On about December 1, 2020 Mallory and Travis announced they are closing the tasting room for in person hours given it is a small space and covid19 rates are climbing in the local area so they felt it the right thing to do. But you can still order wine to pick up at the tasting room and they'll meet you there to deliver it curbside to your car. (In fact, I am making another pick up that way today.) They also have free delivery if you live within 8 miles of the tasting room and are buying 3 bottles or more (I do and I am but they are busy running a winery business and with two toddlers so I can pick up my own). They also ship.
