I returned here with the son on 5-18-2024 for 2024's Dark Lord Day. It was actually the first time I've made it here for the annual and coveted event as the only other time I came for Dark Lord was with him for an atypical Covid era pickup only event. The event is pretty pricey and it's definitely a beer geek special as it costs $200 for admission plus rights to a tote bag containing one 2024 Dark Lord and three Dark Lord variant bombers (each 22 oz). This year was the 20th anniversary Dark Lord Day and they've been doing it for a long time and it's very organized, at least as far as making sure you're credentialed for admittance. It will still cost $15 - $30 to park nearby, but they do have some shuttle buses to remote parking locations. We got there at 9am for our pre-purchased Group A designated time slot but later in the day, there will be more people, with more lines for everything, including the few foodstands on site. I can't imagine any lines for port-o-potties though as there were millions of those and that's a good thing. Heavy metal bands were scheduled to play from 1:30pm to 8pm, but we didn't stay for any of that. I just had a nice 4 oz serving of the 2024 Dark Lord (for $10) while we were there and then we left with the goods. We stood briefly in a line next to a couple that flew in from San Jose CA just for the event. One staffer also told me a guy came in from Italy supposedly just for this event. I really did enjoy the people-watching of these quite serious beer geeks, and that was probably the real highlight of visiting in person on this special day. My only advice if you're going to a Dark Lord Day for any length of time on a sunny day is to bring a hat, sun screen, and a designated driver!
This brewery slipped passed my attention that I experienced for some time before writing a review. Not so sure how that happened but as soon as I noticed it I wanted to get a review posted before it got overlooked again. I have had 3 Floyd's a couple of times. Both the same beer, one of their mainstays the Alpha King. A Pale Ale that was pretty good. I had no complaints with it but wasn't exactly the most memorable one I have had wandering through the country and going to craft breweries. It had a decent maltiness blended with sweetness and with touches of citrus this beer was enjoyable on both occasions and was always refreshing. But sometimes with breweries I like the merchandise or "merch" more than the beer and I think I may need to go in that direction here but exploring their other beers I might have had a different take on it. Yes, I am all about the swag with this brewery. Their store has a great variety of things from the usual items like t shirts and hoodies to less obligatory things like socks, patches and koozies. But what is so super amazing here is that the brewery seems to have or had it's own comic book line which looks like it's based on their Alpha King character associated with their pale ale. Art looks great and I will have to go purchase it on the next pay day. I am a total comic nerd so I have little hesitation that I won't like the comic which has a total of five issues. I have been to comic themed breweries before (Odd 13 Brewing in Colorado comes first to mind) but never ones with their own comic which definitely adds to the coolness level. The brewery's themes on logos I really like as well as there are gothic or metal aspects to it like on their t shirts and hoodies. Some designs remind me of some of Motorhead's logos but perhaps that's only because I listened to them the night before writing this review.
In full disclosure: I am ONLY reviewing the 2020 Dark Lord Day/experience for this review - and hope to update it once we can get rid of this COVID crap and actually EXPERIENCE the brewery/food. With that said, one of my silver linings for COVID is that Dark Lord Day was ALL done online in October this year! No camping out, no lines, none of that. Hoooooray for this old girl not having to endure that! Once the day/release arrived online, the ordering process should have been easier than it was (DarkLordDay.com redirects you strangely on a cell phone) - but once I got to a regular computer it was a little easier. Of note, you HAD to pick out your pick up date/time at the time you place your order - so planning ahead is needed. I got our 4 bottles of DL plus one variant (assigned at random), picked my pick up date, and submitted the order. Easy. Day of pick up - I realized (DUH) that they are an hour behind us - and I had to work at my local brewery the same day. Enter me getting up early and jetting up to get my bottles before jetting back to work. Once I arrived, they had tractor trailers set up in the gravel lot with lines for cars to drive up and get their bottles. The nice gal checked me in - I had to show my confirmation number given at time of ordering and my ID. She then went to the truck, grabbed a bag of bottles, and I was off! Of course, I had to pull through the line and go off to the side to see what variant I got before taking off. I got the Sacred Sword of Jövan! Hooooray! One wish: I do wish we could have had a socially distanced space designated for a little show and tell/bottle swap somewhere as a part of this, as I would have LOVED to lay eyes on one of the other 11 variants, too - just to oooooh and ahhhh at them. Overall - If getting these bottles is this easy in the future, count this old gal in! Now to decide whom to gift these gorgeous bottles to and if I should drink them now or cellar them... hmmm.... :)
This is a good brewery in Indiana that makes a few good beers. I went to a party and they had three different beers from 3 Floyd's and they were all really good. I enjoyed the zombie dust the best but the were all solid beers for sure
Probably one of the most interesting menus I have ever seen at a brewery. They had banh mi and ramen?! I have never been to Indiana but I'm really glad my friend suggested this place to me. Four of my friends ordered the bone marrow aioli burger and I'm really glad we did because it was so tasty and satisfying. The burger was huge and the fries were the best they came fully seasoned with garlic butter. My other friend wanted the banh mi but they were unfortunately out of ingredients so he ordered the pepperoni pizza instead. That has to be the most gourmet delicious pepperoni pizza ever with pickled vegetables. The dough was thick and tasty. The pepperoni was huge and flavorful. I didn't try the beer but my friends seemed to enjoy their drinks so really glad we got to try this place. The food here is amazing. The staff is also really helpful in helping decide what to eat. I wanted to try the ramen but the waiter suggested the burger and I'm glad I listened to his suggestion.
Some really great beers here, food on the average side I'd say. Dropped in recently for a dinner while road-tripping for college visits. I love the music they seemed to be playing non-stop...not for everyone however, as it is pretty hard. It was later in the evening on a Sunday, so not very busy and the service was attentive and pleasant. My daughter did our normal shtick...order several dishes and share them all! We needed veggies, so we ordered their version of a side salad along with an appetizer and a main dish. The side salad has some interesting greens and veggies (like jicama), but the dressing was super-tangy. I love a tangy dressing, but this one was hard to take after about half the salad. The tempura cheese curds were pretty good, but overly filling due to the cheesy, fried nature of the dish. The pile was so high, it was overflowing the dish! The spicy aioli dressing on top went really well with the deep fried nuggets...it was almost too much of a good thing. Best dish (of the three) was the coffee dry-rubbed chicken drums served over pickled watermelon. These drumsticks had a unusual flavor due to the coffee rub, but it was addictive and with the moist chicken made for some great bites. Overall, I'd come for the beer first, food second. Plenty of different beer styles to choose from, whether it be from their own taps or from the beer "guest list". Enjoy!
Stopped in for dinner and some carry out beers on a Sunday night at 6:30 and got the last open stool at the bar. The menu was already out on the bar for me to review, and when I gave the look that I was ready to order, the bartender was prompt and friendly. I ordered a water along with a Blake's Mango and Habanero cider (not a 3 Floyd's, I know!), and I ordered the cheese curds as a starter. The cider was phenomenal!! I'm so glad I ordered it, I'm going to be scouting stores for more. Just the right amount of kick from the habaneros and 6.5% ABV. The cheese curds were GIGANTIC and so delish. Crisp, tempura batter, and oozing with fresh melted cheese. The real standout part of the dish though were the sweet red pepper slices that were served on top (along with onion). This was such an amazing combo - I was beyond pleased. Way too much for one person though. Following the cheese, I ordered the mussels, which are cooked in a broth infused with Alpha King and accompanied by housemade sausage slices, onion, and nicely toasted bread for dipping. The mussels were a hit. I would definitely recommend this pub to all foodies and beer connoisseurs, and I'll be back for sure. Bravo on everything!
Beer, Gastronomical Food and...Death Metal!!!! I stopped into 3 Floyds last year after hearing about it numerous times from colleagues in Northern Indiana. I first went there during the day to scout it out for a business dinner, it just happened to be quieter while I was there. As luck would have it, I met Dave at the bottle shop. He let me know that Bend Both Knees APA was being taken out of rotation so I was able to get a few bottles of that and LazerSnake. I came back later to have dinner, and what a change when the bar is full. The music is non-stop mind-numbing Death Metal and it's cranked, so be wary if that not your cup of tea. Its a good thing this is a brewpub since when people have a few beers in them they tend to speak louder. After a while, the music really isn't an issue. We were served by the lovely girl you wanna take home to meet the family, Morgan a Goth Goddess. She was funny cool and a great server who took very good care of us, and helped our table with the food offerings. My choices that night were the Elote or Mexican style corn, the insanely good burnt ends, and the phenomenally tender smoked Pork loin. I can't even remember what beers I had but since I wasn't driving, I went for flavour and strength with my selections. The Elote was a great little refreshing dish, the Burnt Ends were well, burnt, but only slightly on the outside for flavour, and the smoked Pork Lion was perfect, as it is lean meat, but slowly simmered so as to keep the moisture intact. Keep in mind, like most brewpubs they change up the menu so you may not be able to get one of the dishes I tried. Three Floyds is legendary, and I'm kicking myself for not going sooner. I've been to a few of the local brewpubs and they all have their uniqueness. I do recommend the beer and the food and be wary, it's loud at dinner but that doesn't stop the place from being packed.
I admit -- I wasn't a huge fan of Three Floyds at first. It seemed like all of their beers were different takes on pale ales, and hops for hops' sake are not my thing. Then from what I heard from my husband, a Three Floyds fan who has eaten at the brew pub several times, the brew pub has blaring heavy metal in a DGAF kind of way. And while both of these things are true, I can now appreciate the fact that FFF is more than that. And I even like it. My husband and I visited over the weekend when we were passing through on our way home from Chicago. The brew pub is in an industrial park, which after visiting several breweries, was a sign we were in for something good. There is some outdoor seating, and then when you walk in ... yes ... the heavy metal is blaring. *insert devil horn hands here* The hostess was polite, and told us that if we wanted to be served immediately, our best bet was the bar. I typically don't like eating at bars, but I think this gave us a better view of FFF, which I'll get to in a sec. My husband started with a beer. I started with not a beer -- actually a ginger beer -- because bun in oven and all of that. I will say, though, that I have gotten to try their hefeweizen before, and it's pretty delightful. FFF can do more than hops. And then for food, we went with the cheese curds, but these weren't your average curds. These were tempura-fried with a kimchi aioli and pickled peppers. The tempura made them lighter, and I loved the aioli. A new take on something standard seems to be FFF's thing, which became apparent through the rest of our meal. For my dinner, I got the beef pho, a somewhat new addition to the menu. We originally came to FFF because I heard my husband brag about the ramen so much. Unfortunately, that wasn't on the new seasonal menu; pho was the soup instead. So I got that. And this pho was different than other pho I've had. It was more herby than normal. I think it's a bit heavy on the five spice powder, which with the star anise and fennel in five spice gave it a touch of licorice. This wasn't a bad thing -- just complex in a different way. The rice noodles were perfectly cooked, and the beef had a great flavor too. This pho also comes with a giant dollop of chili paste on top, but it really doesn't need it. I scooped it off, and the pho was plenty spicy without it. My husband opted for the grilled trout sandwich. That's not something I would normally order, but getting a few tastes of his, I would definitely get this on a return visit. And sitting behind the bar, we got to see a bit of how the staff interacts. Everyone seemed to be close and works together well, which is nice to see. The main bartender, who may have been a manager as well, was courteous and quick to take our order or get my husband another beer. He also made it a point of asking us what we thought of the pho, since it was a new menu item that they were trying out. This leads me to think that the atmosphere is not DGAF but just genuine, "this is who we are." I feel a bit jaded by restaurants that flout their crazy music choices and going-against-the-norm attitude because a lot of times, these places have terrible service and never listen to the customers. They're all about the food as an art form, and customers are merely the peons they have to deal with to keep the lights on. That's not how it was at FFF. Yes, there is an individualism to it, but the service was great. And they do GAF. I can appreciate that. And then on our way out, we bought a six pack of Zombie Dust for a FFF-loving friend of ours, and my husband got a shirt to wear proudly. We also saw that FFF has opened a distillery as well. I'd love to come back and try it out.
September 1, 2019 Sunday - 7:30 PM for dinner 1 Adult Atmosphere - 4 stars Food - 5 star Service - 5 star Background - This brewery has been on my radar for years and did not realize how close it was to my business trip. So I am hitting it up after a long day of work. Atmosphere - Dark, Dark, and more Dark. Heavy Metal music blasting on the stereo. I sat at the small bar looking at the taps and menu board. Honestly I was not expecting this kind of a vibe. Food Drink - I asked what beer was here that I could not get anywhere else and I was told Dune, so that was my first beer of the night. A solid IPA, and would order it again. Second beer was a collaboration with WarPigs Brewpub, Lazurite. Dune was my favorite of the night. Dinner - I ordered the Carne Asada, which came with some thick grilled scallions. Some tortillas were wrapped up in tin foil and served warm. The meat had some great flavor, I just wish the cuts were more consistent. Some were very large while others were bite size. Service - My bar tender was great. He was handing out samples because the credit card part of the register was not working. Shame I still had about a half beer when I tried to cash out. When my beer was gone the register was working again. Future - Yes.
Great stop for lunch and a beer in Munster, Indiana. Been a fan of Three Floyd's for awhile now and was excited to finally check out the brewery. Only about 10 minutes of the highway and 45 minutes from Chicago; it was easy to find and there's plenty of free parking right in their lot. Found most of their signature beers on tap including; Zombie Dust, Gumball Head and Alpha King. Was also pleasantly surprised by their food menu, all kinds of different things were on their from Ramen soup to Pizza's and my Vietnamese Ban Mih Sandwich was delicious! A gift shop area is located right within the taproom and features beers to go as well as apparel. Three Floyds was everything I had hoped for and I look forward to returning.

One of my favorite new arrivals is the peanut roasted chicken sandwich. It's very flavorful it reminds you of Satay Chicken. The richness of the peanut sauce combined with the spicy orange chutney is delicious. read more

First time in here and was blown away that they had Judas Priest cranked up! Took me back to my high school years, LOVED IT! Came for the beer, but was impressed by the food. I had the smoked brisket & potato filled Pierogis. Also had a side of fries, which were some of the best fries ever. Go for the beer, but def try out the food. read more

Hands down - favorite brew pub near the Chicagoland area. The beer is fantastic (easily top 50 in the entire US) and the food is solid. I have been here multiple times and each time I try a new menu item that is surprisingly underrated and a new beer that is only tapped at this location. If you haven't been and live in the area; you're truly missing out on a gem. HEADS UP this place is very loud, crowded and has a metal theme throughout. If this isn't your thing, don't come. So many people give this place a bad rep based on these factors. I love 3 Floyd's because they stick to their roots and don't change for anyone. Keep up the great work 3 Floyd's! read more

I've finally made it to Three Floyd's! After months of talking about taking the trip, I've finally made time. I absolutely love their beers I'm able to get here in the Indy area, so I was excited to try other local options. I tried the permanent funeral and laser snake. Both really great pale ale's. We also ordered the cheese curds and the spinach and artichoke pizza. both were INCREDIBLE. I first thought the pizza looked a little over done, but it wasn't. It was just right! read more
Excellent beer, funky food and quirky style. I enjoyed this tasting room/restaurant and had wanted to visit for a long time. Great, great beer, tasty and unique food, but the ambience was just a little tough this time. The music was just too distracting. A droning metal sound that was too much even for me. It's like it was one long track was playing for the hour+ we were in there--and I love rock and metal in moderation, don't get me wrong, but it became distracting over our conversations from the drone of the sound. I get that it fits the style and funk of the venue but maybe dial it back ever so slightly :). I realize that's a dumb thing to be hung up on, and everything else was great. Definitely hit up this craft beer Mecca next time you're headed to/from Chicago on I-65! read more

Three Floyds is a real destination restaurant--I would place it in my top 5 for the state of Indiana. I know many people who drive up from Indy just to go here, and many others who combine a visit on their trip to Chicago. The location is utterly uninspiring--you shake your head in disbelief as Waze directs you into an industrial zone, and there, right next to the brewery, is the restaurant. It really is located in a south suburban shithole. But it all gets better from there on. I have only been here on weekdays around 5-6 pm with a DD, and thus have never had to wait. The brewery workers and the restaurant staff prefer the Viking/Goth/Euro biker look, with beards, black and green Ts, and lots of tats. Emanating from the bar area in the center of the restaurant, which is only partially enclosed, is a stream of intensely loud heavy metal--most of which you will be unfamiliar with. If all this sounds unusual and offputting, don't worry. Bring earplugs, or just enjoy the unusual vibe. I have seen plenty of conservative-looking retirees eating here--because this place is amazing. The service is attentive, and the waiters are quirky and fun and will chat if its not too busy. Beers: just incredible. Zombie Dust for me one of top beers in Midwest if not the nation, and I really like Yum Yum too. On the opposite spectrum, Gumball Wheat is uninspiring. So when you come here, you get Zombie Dust as fresh as it gets. Food: tremendous. Kids (and adults) love the mac and cheese. I've had the noodle bowl in cold weather and was pretty impressed. The Braised Beef done pseudo-German style is great if you have that kind of DNA, and the pork shoulder awesome. Did I forget the bread board is high-end too? I really don't live close enough to have run the whole menu, but it's all been excellent every time. read more

Three Floyds is one of our favorite local-ish breweries. On our way to a wedding in Buffalo, NY, we decided to finally make a stop and I am so glad we did! This place is tucked away so it's not viewable from a street, but it was easy to find and makes the place more interesting. The inside isn't huge, but a good vibe and we were seated promptly. The service was great as well. They have merch and beer to purchase to go. I obviously knew the beer would be great, but the food was amazing!! We shared the tostada app--sooo good; the chicken drumstick--delish; an elote on the cobb thing--delish; and the cheesecake--delish. I wish this place was located closer, but will make for another fun adventure next time we are out in the area. read more
This is just going to get lost in the 1,100+ reviews that already exist but here goes anyway. First things's first: I got stung by a bee here as soon as I got out of my car. Like insta-sting. In the middle of October. If nearly took this as a sign and got back in my car and kept driving to Greenbush. I'm glad I stayed, though. Second thing: This place is fundamentally a HEAVY METAL bar. If this isn't your thing, you may find it a bit of a turn-off. I like all kinds of music and these guys happen to have really good taste in music. When I sat down at the bar I noticed that they had Om's "Variations on a Theme" spinning on vinyl, on a turntable behind the bar. Awesome. This made me happy. The older couple next to me at the bar, not so much. They were lamenting the "lack of Neil Diamond on the jukebox at this place". Ugh. Third thing: The food is very good. Small menu but lots of interesting choices. I had the FLAMMKUCHEN (a delicious white pie) and also admired all the great looking choices at tables around me. Fourth thing: THE BEER. This is the #1 reason to come here. One of the best breweries in the Midwest, if not the entire country. They've had the "tropical" hops thing down to a T for years now and they deserve every award they've won. Drink some beers on tap and pick up a case or three to go at the on-site bottle shop. I had a "Yum Yum" pale ale and it was amazing. Took a lot of self-control not to order two or three more, but I knew I had to be responsible and drive back to Detroit immediately after lunch. Fifth thing: Yes, it is very crowded here. It is an extremely popular destination for beer lovers! Be prepared to wait awhile for a table, even at off times. Would not recommend trying to come here on a Friday or Saturday unless you don't care about excessive waits/crowds. read more
Three Floyd's is a South Side fav place to get a couple brews and some awesome grub food! Beer selection is always on point, and the food we had today (split 4 apps) was all excellent. Cheese curds all day... Our server was great, and so was the rest of the staff. They do blast heavy metal music. Get ready for that. read more

Cannot say enough about our first trip to FFF. The beerslingers (bartenders), nothing less than amazing! They REALLY know their brews, how to describe to customers, ASK you what you're into, and make solid recommendations. Jordan took fantastic care of us. Totally chill yet energetic vibe. Even fellow customers are friendly, chatting about their favorite FFF, what they've tried, where they're from -- and many other topics. We made some fast friends!! Listening to Metallica on Vinyl took me back! Their merchandising and cash and carry mini-store was stocked with all sorts of cool, eclectic take-homes and of course, the beer is cheaper than you can buy at the store AND you can buy beer that's not available in stores. Hands-down one of our best brewpub experiences ever. We'll DEF be back!! read more
Food: good Beer: AWESOME Service: okay Come for the beer. Stay for the beer. Eat the food while you drink the beer. Cannot say enough how much I love the beer they make - it was my first time at the brewery though and I dragged my friends here while on a road trip from Michigan to Chicago. The food actually exceeded my expectations too though. The menu rotates so won't dwell on specifics. read more

I absolutely love Three Floyds. My favorite brews would have to be Zombie Dust, Gumballhead, and Space Station Middle Finger. Other good choices are Robert the Bruce, Alpha King, and Alpha Klaus (seasonal). If you love heavy metal, you'll love the atmosphere. If you're going on the weekend, especially in the late afternoon or early evening, be prepared to be put on a waitlist. Thankfully they provide tours, which you can take while you're waiting for a table or seat to open up. Every time my husband and I have visited, we've had to wait at least 30+ minutes. Oh, and hit up the gift shop. Whenever we see a 6 pack of Zombie Dust in Indianapolis, it's usually near $20. It's $12 at the gift shop, which is awesome! read more

One of our favorite breweries as well as places to grab food! We always try to stop by on our way up to Chicago. I love the bar. All the decorations and memorabilia as well as the vinyl records playing! We look forward to the food as well. Great choices that are different than you'd expect. Make sure to make some room in your trunk to grab some to go beers on the way out. read more
I was in the area visiting my girlfriend who is currently living here. We're both from Southern California and always looking to try new breweries. We came here mid-day on a Sunday and it was pretty packed. Although no one likes waiting to sit, it's a good sign that the place was busy. Being that it was just the two of us, they were able to sit us at the bar immediately. I tried a sampler of their beers and decided on a pint of Alpha King -- their flagship beer. The beers here are a little on heavier/hoppy side so if that's not you, the Kolsch may be your only option. That being said, they had a ton of beer from other breweries available in bottles. I totally get what others have said about the service -- it's a little standoffish. However, it fits the thrash metal/pseudo satanic feel of the place. Metal blasting the entire time gets a little old, though I am completely aware that's their thing here. We ordered the wings and Mac and Cheese with homemade chorizo. Both of these were awesome. The wings aren't sauced but the dry rub is delicious. If we had more time to kill, I could definitely see putting down a few orders of these. The Mac & Cheese was super creamy and the chorizo wasn't your super-market variety red greasy sausage. Their homemade version added a perfect accent to this dish. The pizzas we saw looked amazing, so next time we'll be ordering one of those. If you're in the area and enjoy some good beer, you have to hit this brewery up. read more

We visited on a Saturday. If you don't want to wait, get there half an hour before it opens. They'll take your name and call you when your seat is ready. The beer selection (draft, cans, bottles) is huge - there is also a flight that isn't on the menu, but the waiter told us that they are the basic ones. All of the dishes are on the pricier side. The mac and cheese and cheese curds were delicious, but the pizza we got (with lemon?) was not the best pizza I'd tasted recently. I wouldn't get that again. We also got toast with bone marrow which we weren't a fan of. I'd recommend getting regular dishes over the dishes with fancy ingredients. We were given a reserved card for the brewery tour, so we were able to leave our food and drinks at the table while we walked around the brewery. The tour is very interesting - definitely recommended!! read more

First off: the music is not too loud, people were able to just walk in and sit at the bar, and there was no wait at all. We went at around 2pm on a Friday. The beer is obviously phenomenal. Our bartender (since we sat at the bar) was great; he was friendly and attentive. My only gripe was that the pretzel knots we got took way too long to come out given how empty it was, and they were a little crispy but we still ate them. If you're over fifty and looking to talk about the grandkids over replayed nineties hits, go to Applebee's! read more

3 Floyds has more than somewhat of a cult following in the Chicagoland area and for good reason. I would definitely rate their beer as some of the best, most flavorful, and most uniquely tasty beer I've had throughout the world. It's not normal! The food menu changes every couple months or so and there's always been some fun and unique items. The pizzas are a bit pricey, but to me, worth every penny. They have a way of making what might not sound like the best idea for a pizza turn out delicious. Every time I've been to 3 Floyds, the beer menu always has a lot of new tastings that you can't get at the stores. Of course, they pretty much always have Gumballhead, Zombie Dust, Yum Yum, Space Station Middle Finger, and Alpha King on draft as well. They don't do growler fills, but there is a small shop on the side of the main entrance where you can buy beers by the caseload and merch such as shirts, hoodies, and stickers. They get very crowded during prime time dining hours such as the lunch rush and in the evening so I've found it best to always try and go during a random time of the day and have never had to wait. Also, Be prepared for loud metal music and Evil Dead 2 most likely playing on one of the big screens. I've seen it 3 full times there. It's one of my favorite movies. read more
Cannot believe I have yet to review 3F. I've been here quite a few times now, not even counting Dark Lord Days, and I always enjoy the ridiculous movie projections, unapologetically loud music, ridiculously good beer, and surprisingly good food! For beer, I don't think you can go wrong with anything, definitely get some Zombie Dust if they have it, but also note that the beer menu lists the IBUs (int'l bitterness units or something) so you can get real hoppy or stay on the safer side, depending on your tastes. The menu is also constantly changing and always good; have never been disappointed in a dish here. There's always a mac and cheese though and I highly recommend it, despite normally avoiding that since homemade is usually best. The apps, pizzas and entrees are all solid. I'm sure it's been said, but you come for the beer but you stay -- or come back -- for the food. read more
Of course the beer was delicious. The place is small, prices not bad for beer at least. The porkbelly on the pizza($18)was rubbery & the bread on the steak sandwich($8)was overly toasted. The mac & cheez($6) tho, it stole the show! Definitely coming back, cases to go are only $40! read more
I finally made it out to Three Floyd's this past weekend and all I can think about is how much I want to go back! We arrived about 5pm on Saturday and were met with a one hour wait. We put our names down and went to the bottle shop. They have $10 22 oz bombers with a limit of 2. They had three options the day we went but Permanent Funeral was sold out by 2pm they told us so I ended up getting Blackheart & Dreadnaught. I'm drinking by Blackheart while writing this review actually and it's one of the best beers I've had in quite some time. They also sell 6 packs for $10 of some of their more well known beers like Pride & Joy, Alpha King, Robert The Bruce, Gumballhead and Jinx Proof. Our names were called just about exactly an hour later and we got a nice four top. My cousin and her boyfriend are vegetarians & they were pleased with the options available to them. My meat loving friend and I were pleased with the animal options. Cheese Curds & Pickles $6 - Real good deep fried oversized cheese curds. Ramp Sausage $8 - My favorite item of the night! It really surprised me that I liked a ramp stuffed sausage but it's legit. Roasted Squash Puree Veggie Pizza $16 - My second favorite thing of the night! Thin Crust full size pizza that would have been enough by itself for the whole table. Instead of the usual tomato sauce it was the roasted square puree plus had mushrooms, spinach, garlic, red pepper flakes, truffle oil, and fried sage. Mind the red pepper flakes! The pizza is hot, hot, hot if you're a weaksauce like me. Roasted Goat Ravioli $14 - This dish was just okay but I found it a bit bland. It was nice & creamy just not full of flavor as I had expected. Mac & Cheese $6 - This was another dish that I just found to be bland. I love macaroni and cheese and it looks insanely cheese but strangely the flavor just wasn't there. Three Floyd's makes some awesome beer and going to their brewery you can to have a bunch they do not distribute. All pints were $5 except for the Rabbid Rabbit that was $6 and came in a tulip. --This weekend I tried: Cimmerian Sabertooth Berzerker Permanent Funeral Rabbid Rabbit - my favorite of the bunch Boom Over Pow Suebi Doo - my least favorite of the bunch. They are experimenting with making less potent brews apparently and I just wasn't on board with this pale ale but I thought the name was really cute. :) Yum Yum Our server was awesome giving us a lot of information on the beers, he was quick and attentive. Thank goodness he immediately took our beer orders upon sitting down because food took forever to come out - over 30 minutes! I loved Three Floyd's! It wasn't at all what I expected but it was chill, awesome beyond belief beer, friendly service and when the food was good....it was really darn good. I need to go back as soon as possible! read more
Recently, I've come to a realization: I'm a full-blown beer snob. How to self-diagnose? Characteristics of this condition include: - You turn your nose up at mainstream, big-box brewery beer (MillerCoors and A-B), and walk extra laps around a baseball stadium, Lollapalooza and other venues/ events just to find a craft brew. - You used to think Stella was okay, and now you think it's crap. - When faced with a choice between Amstel Light and Blue Moon, you pick wine or a cocktail (even though you've been drinking beer all night). - You'll pay $10 for a goblet of Belgium's finest without batting an eyelash. I blame my condition on Quinton's in Columbia, MO, where I discovered my collegiate taste for craft beer at the bottom of a $3.50 22-oz "big girl" glass of Kansas City's Boulevard Wheat. And now, I'm driving 33 miles to an industrial corridor in Indiana and deemed it not only thrilling, but absolutely necessary. Because to be fully vested in local beer snob society, you've got to visit all of your metro's indie breweries. So, Three Floyds shines as a bohemian mecca in the middle of manufacturing row. As I hooked a left onto Indiana Parkway, I feared a wrong turn had been made but then I noticed the familiar colorful, Grateful Dead-esque logo. There's parking aplenty, and once inside, my friend and I quickly landed a table near the bar. I ordered a Rabbid Rabbit (Franco-Belgian style Farmhouse Ale) and slowly took in all the original, psychedelic art and vivid taps - this brewpub's definitely a playground for the very visual. Food - you've got to go there. We started with the decadent Scotch egg (skip this if you're genetically earmarked for heart conditions) and then I moved on to the beer-seasoned mussels (outrageous!). And the service is excellent - everyone from bartender to server is at the ready to make suggestions on beer and food pairings. My favorite component of the beer menu has to be the IBU (International Bitterness Units) rating... yes, ABV disclosure is a must but since I'm not a fan of hop-heavy beers, it's nice to know what I'm getting into. I could say much more, but I'll finish with this: If you love beer, I mean truly love beer, then Three Floyd's is a can't-miss. Come here to bask in the opportunity to drink small batch brews not available on draft anywhere outside the brewery, enjoy an imaginative line-up of food and beer and revel in the sunny, carefree climate. Three Floyds, you sure feel a lot like home. read more
