2nd & Charles storefront!
Amanda L.

I cannot believe the amount of times I have driven past 2nd & Charles, thinking it was some tech store something or another that I was not going to be interested in, when inside this magical store is literally ALL THE THINGS I LOVE! FANDOM HEAVEN! THEY BUY BACK BOOKS! GAMES! BOTH OF THE PUZZLE AND VIDEO VARIETY! MOVIES! SHOWS! PUZZLES! The list goes on!!!! There is so much here that I love and so much they have to offer! I came here for the first time on Boxing Day and was so overwhelmed by the sheer amount of stuff I wanted and saw and the amount of SALES! I wanted to buy everything - truly! I have been back multiple times since then and have just focused on exploring the shop one section at a time, so as not to get overwhelmed LOL! My only complaint is that the used and new items are mixed throughout the entire store, so it makes it harder to search between these two, especially when they have sales focused on only the used items and whatnot. All in all though, this place is heaven! I have come here to drop off a ton of books, board games, and movies for them to evaluate as well. The process is super clear and the staff are super helpful at explaining it all and answering all the questions you may have. They have the option to offer your cash or store credit and the store credit option normally is 2x that of the cash offer, so if you're like me and are never at a loss for things to purchase here - you will want to go with the store credit option! Absolutely love everything about 2nd & Charles and can't say enough good things about it! They are the living embodiment of one person's trash is another person's treasure and boy oh boy have I found so many treasures here!!

FYI: This is more of a 3.5 star review but I'm trying to be nice. I'm surprised this 2nd & Charles store hasn't been reviewed yet. It's fairly large, it's been open for several months now--maybe even for a year--and it's part of a large commercial shopping district that includes the Baldwin Commons and Great Lakes Crossing Outlets. This occupies the former Borders Books and Music location and reminds me of the defunct Media Play stores. Here you can buy, sell or trade books, CDs, DVDs, vinyl, video games and electronics. Features I like: prices are reasonable, the store bought some used music I had been struggling to sell at other stores and the book selection is solid. My biggest criticisms: I bought a used CD here and the liner names were damaged. Staff should have marked it as having damaged liner notes (or maybe they failed to thoroughly inspect the product?). I don't buy CDs that much anymore but when I do it's often because I want the liner notes. So, quality control. Another issue: I found the DVD selection to be very 'meh' but maybe that's because I'm picky and I don't like a lot of mainstream fare. Overall, I think it's a welcome addition to the metro Detroit area and it's nice to have other "big box" options outside of Barnes & Nobles and Best Buy. Tip: Follow 2nd & Charles on Facebook for exclusive coupons and deals.

Great place to shop and find new things. They sell books and accessories related to books, music and movies. Highly recommend this place.

The kids love this place. It is a bit pricey, but you can find some good deals. In the past I…read morebought several pop culture themed t-shirts, I believe it was buy one get two free. Today they had a big Pop vinyl figure sale. Many of the figurines are around $5, I found some good ones for $2.99. They also offered buy two get one 75% off. The kids love getting these figurines, so it is great to find some good discounts. If you like pop culture themed goodies, this is your place. Sometimes it is easier to purchase goods in-person instead of paying for shipping and waiting. Certain items like Japanese goodies are prevalent here. They have other themed candy and cereal goodies, plush, accessories, blind bags, and multimedia items. If you love anime, manga, and other popular animated entertainment this is a place to search for all of the best themed purchases. Before rating this store, I did read the other comments. They did ask me about the membership. I declined. Seeing that other customers experienced sneaky issues, I hope I will not experience them myself. Unless you purchase a high amount of items from this establishment, it is not worth spending the extra money. Unless you purchase the items on sale, FYE does tend to be a bit more expensive than other equivalent stores.

A little back story, I've shopped at this location before and the employees are always a tad rude…read morebut nothing too horrible, but this time was way different. I always pay with my phone because it counts as magnetic swipe rather than NFC, meaning anywhere that takes a swipe card takes it (I've used it multiple times at this location alone). This time, however, I was greeted by an extremely unpleasant individual. Now onto what happened. There was someone ahead of me being rung up so their cashier called for back up. Immediately upon walking up, the man who was back-up (longer hair, pale skin, almost skeleton in appearance honestly sort of scary), gave a heavy sigh as if our presence was bothered. That wasn't too bad, we all have bad days, I get it. When it came time to pay, I turned on my phone's pay service as I've done here before, but immediately the man said "no" with no context. I assumed he meant to wait for something on his side so I moved my phone away, waited a little, then tried again. This time, he said "I said no." Confused, I asked him what he meant and he said "we dont take phone pay here." Now at this point I get the confusion, I've had similar encounters at places like Hot Topic that don't take NFC, but after a small explanation they always let me try and 10/10 times it works. This man, however, was very different. Before I could even get half a sentence out explaining, he cut me off saying "I said no. No no no, no. No we dont take it. Use a card." At this point I'm really confused by the countless "nos" as if I'm a small child being scolded. I ask once more to try and be said "I told you no already, get out your card now or just leave" so I walked out. The audacity of such an employee to not even allow a customer to try something they've done before is simply mind-boggling. I'll never be shopping at this location if I walk in and see him, awful experience.
